CHAPTER 1: THE STRANGER WHO CHANGED EVERYTHING
CHAPTER 1: THE STRANGER WHO CHANGED EVERYTHING
The rain poured relentlessly, turning the streets into shimmering rivers beneath the city lights.
Aria Bennett pulled her worn hoodie tighter around herself as she hurried through the storm, clutching a paper bag that held nothing more than a loaf of bread and a carton of milk. It was all she could afford after paying another month's rent for the tiny apartment she shared with her sick grandmother.
Life had never been kind to her.
Every morning she attended university. Every afternoon she worked at a small café. Every night she cleaned offices until nearly midnight. Sleep was a luxury she could barely afford, but giving up had never been an option.
Not while someone depended on her.
As she reached the crosswalk, the piercing scream of brakes shattered the night.
A black luxury car skidded sideways, barely missing her.
The paper bag flew from her hands, groceries scattering across the wet road.
Her heart pounded violently.
The driver's door swung open.
A tall man stepped out, dressed in an expensive black suit that looked untouched by the rain. His sharp features were cold, his expression unreadable, and his dark eyes settled on her with an intensity that made her breath catch.
"I'm sorry," he said, his deep voice calm despite what had just happened.
Aria glared at him.
"Sorry?" she snapped. "You almost killed me!"
Instead of arguing, the stranger crouched to gather the groceries that had rolled across the road.
"I'll replace them."
"I don't need your money."
For the first time, a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Most people would."
"I'm not most people."
For a brief moment, silence stretched between them as rain continued to fall.
Neither of them noticed another pair of eyes watching from a car parked across the street.
Someone had been following the man all evening.
And now...
They had seen Aria's face.
Far away, a voice spoke into a phone.
"So... she's the one?"
"Yes."
"What are your orders?"
A long pause followed.
Then came the chilling reply.
"Don't lose sight of her."
Aria walked away without looking back, unaware that the ordinary life she had fought so hard to protect had just ended.
The mysterious stranger wasn't just a wealthy businessman.
He carried secrets powerful enough to destroy anyone who got too close.
And fate had just placed Aria directly in his path.
To be continued...
