Ri-Ri
There was only 6 minutes left of her shift before her week of vacation, not that Emyrie was watching the minutes pass by. OK she was, but only because this was the first full week off she had been able to have in the last 6 years. Emyrie Sharpe had finally completed her residency and was now a fully qualified Pediatrician. She loved her job but 4 years to do a Bachelor of Science, then 4 years of medical school followed by 3 years of residency had put her life on hold. Emyrie had to remind herself that she was only 28 year old, it was time to act like it. Even though she wasn't leaving the city, she had so many plans made for the following week and they all revolved around her being pampered.
With 3 minutes to go, Emyrie walked to the doctors lounge and started to get herself ready to head home, the whole time praying that her pager didn't go off. When, finally, the clock struck 7 pm she turned off her pager, grabbed her purse, and, after waving goodbye to the nurses at the desk, headed out the door to her car.
Driving down the highway, Emyrie sang along to her favorite music station while thinking about the nice hot bubble bath she was planning to have when she got home. Her phone started to ring, she looked nervously to see who was calling. She breathed a sigh of relief when it wasn't the hospital.
"Isaac! Thank god it's you!"
She gained a chuckle in response, "If only I could be greeted that way when I call all the women in my life"
"Uh-oh, women troubles again baby brother?" Emyrie shook her head even though she knew Isaac couldn't see her.
"There is no need for sarcasm, my struggles are real! And quit with the baby brother comment, I'm younger by 6 minutes, that hardly gives you the title of big sister"
"Ah but you see I am wiser, although that has less to do with birth time and more to do with life choices."
"I didn't call you so you could worldly wisdom with me, I was wondering if I could stop by tonight? I need to talk to you about something"
He suddenly sounded serious, which wasn't Isaac's usual style. Concern began to creep up Emyrie's spine, "Of course you can, is everything OK?"
"Yeh, I'm fine" he said after a long pause, "I just need your help with something. I'll be over around 8 if that's OK?"
"I'm actually just pulling into my driveway so come on over whenever you'd like, I'll be here"
"Thanks Ri-Ri, I'll see you in a little while"
As Emyrie walked into her house she smiled thinking about how only Isaac and her Dad had ever called her Ri-Ri. Most of her friends had taken to calling her Em or Emmy. Her Dad had been the first one to start it and one day, when they were about six, Isaac had decided that he was going to do it too.
Isaac and Emyrie really were the mirror image of each other, if they had been the same gender they would have been practically identical. Their jet black straight hair and petite nose had come from their mom but it was their pale skin and emerald green eyes from their dad that had always made them stand out from the crowd.
After taking off her shoes and dumping her bag on the kitchen counter, she decided to head upstairs to take a quick shower before her brother showed up, her bubble bath would have to wait.
