No Promises

700 Words
Emyrie just stared at the message, unable to take her eyes off the screen. Max was rich, successful, very attractive and had a dream career and life, or so she had thought. What could possibly have happened to make him want to take such serious action. She finally handed the phone back to Isaac.  "Where is Max now?" "He's at home" Emyrie shot out of her chair "Alone? You left him alone?" "I'm not completely stupid Emyrie, the rest of the band is with him. We've been with him since last night." "Why isn't he at the hospital?" Emyrie just stared at her brother, unable to understand what his logic was for Max not being at the hospital right now. "He wouldn't go. He said that he was fine and that it was just the drink that had gotten to him and that he just needed to sleep it off and he'd be fine. But I don't think he is fine Ri." Isaac sat on the couch with his head in his hands. Emyrie wanted to shout and scream at her brother that no Max was not fine and that he needed serious medical attention. And that's when she realized why her brother was here and why he had brought her bribery items. "You want me to be his doctor?" Isaac looked directly at her with a slight glistening that made it look like he was on the verge of tears. Whether they were from sadness about his friend or frustration because there was nothing he could do, she didn't know. "I'm a Pediatrician Isaac, not a shrink. I treat small humans who have broken bones or need their tonsils removed, not grown up superstars who have tried to end their life" "I know that Emyrie, I just don't know what to do. Please Ri-Ri, please just come with me and check him out? We are supposed to be going on the road in two days to play a couple of shows out of state and with how he is right now, the rest of us are scared of what he might do while we are away. We don't want to cancel the shows because that would let the fans down and also would open up a whole can of worms as to why we are cancelling. We really can't have people sniffing around and speculating right now" Isaac dropped his head into his hands again and Emyrie started to weaken. She had only seen her brother like this a few times and she knew he wouldn't be asking for help if he could see any other way. "Okay fine, I'll come with you and talk to him" Isaac looked up and gave her the biggest smile she had ever seen. "But I can't promise anything Iz, I don't know what led him to where he was last night and I doubt he will even talk to me about it, but I will try."  Emyrie got up off the couch and looked down at herself. She was wearing her favourite comfy sweatpants and hoodie. "I'm going to get changed into something a little less comfy looking and I'll be right back" Emyrie ran up the stairs and into her bedroom. She removed her sweat pants and hoodie and stood looking at her clothes. She needed something that said "I'm here as a professional" but also said "It's ok to talk to me, I'm just Isaac's sister".  She settled on a plain black short sleeved button up shirt and dark blue jeans and black boots. She put her hair into a quick ponytail and put on the smallest amount of make up possible for her to get away with the natural look but giving her pale skin some colour so she actually looked alive.  After a quick look in the mirror at the final image she was ready to go. When she got downstairs she discovered that Isaac had eaten most of the pizza but had thankfully left her bottle of wine untouched. He knew better than to open that without her.  "Ok baby brother, you go throw that leftover pizza in the fridge and I'll meet you at your car."
