2 - Preparing

Jameson     As I laid on the floor, gazing up at my beautiful mate while she fed our newborn pup, the Moon Goddess’ words kept replaying in my mind.  It was hard to wrap my head around the thought of taking Jacob with us on our upcoming journey, but I also couldn’t ignore what she said about me, Jacob and Mira, being the key to Savannah’s success.     If I were to insist, we leave Jacob with my mum, it could be the cause of Savannah failing, leading to the end of life as we all know it.  That was something I didn’t want to weigh on my conscience, so I decided to support whatever decision Savannah makes, regarding our little guy.     Once Jacob was full and sleeping peacefully, Savannah laid him in his bassinet, then she tiredly mumbled, “I need sleep, Jameson.”     “Me, too,” I whispered, getting up from the floor.  On my way to the door, I grabbed Savannah’s hand and whispered, “Come, my love.  Let’s get you to bed.”     Savannah dragged her feet on the way to our bedroom due to how tired she was, then she climbed onto the bed and fell asleep seconds after her head hit the pillow.  I climbed onto the bed and pulled the blanket over us, then I snuggled to my exhausted mate and soon joined her in the world of sleep.     We awakened a few hours later to the sound of our pup whining in the next room.  Savannah practically sprang from the bed, then she sprinted out of the bedroom without a word.  There was no stopping the ear-to-ear grin that stretched across my face in response to my mate promptly tending to our pup.     When she didn’t return after a few minutes, I stumbled out of bed and made my way to the nursery, where Savannah was rocking and feeding little Jacob.  He greedily suckled the milk out of her with a smile on his cute, chubby face, while Savannah caressed his cheek with a beautiful smile playing on her lips.       Savannah looked so happy, while she gazed at our pup with love and adoration swirling in her amber eyes.  It was all I ever wanted for my mate, and I wished we could stay in that moment forever, despite knowing it was not a possibility.     I stood, leaning against the doorframe and watched the two of them while Savannah finished nursing our boy.  When she was done, she stood up from the walking chair and walked over to me.     With the sweetest smile lighting up her face, Savannah held Jacob out to me and asked, “Would you like to hold your son again?”     “Absolutely!” I exclaimed while holding my arms out.     Savannah carefully placed him in the crook of my arm, then she cooed, “Look, Jacob.  It’s daddy.”     As if on cue, Jacob opened his eyes and looked at me, then he smiled again, making my heart instantly melt.  I cradled the little guy against my chest and honestly mumbled, “I don’t think I could leave him behind, even if you wanted to.”     The few hours of sleep I got, made a world of difference in my thought process.  I was weary about taking Jacob with us before, but now, I knew in my heart, that wasn’t an option.  Leaving him behind would lead to severe separation anxiety for all three of us, and that was the last thing we needed to worry about.     “I’m glad we are in agreement on this,” Savannah sheepishly admitted, then she pecked a kiss on my cheek before softly murmuring, “As long as we are together, we can make it through anything.”      Zane     I was never interested in the dating scene.  Instead, I put my focus on training with the warriors and learning everything there is to know about tracking.       Not only did I train with the warriors at the Jungle Pack.  I also trained with warriors at the Great Forest Pack.  By doing so, I was able to fine tune my skills in both my cat form and my wolf form, learning from some of the best warriors in our part of the world.     When Zoey filled me in on her plans to help Savannah, I saw it as a challenge and a chance to use the many skills I had acquired over the years.  Plus, no way in hell was I gonna let my twin sis leave the Jungle Pack without me.       Sure, Zoey trained with the warriors, and she could hold her on in a fight, but I would never forgive myself if something bad happened, and I wasn’t there to help.  Neither of us were very social, opting to hang-out with each other more often than not.  Therefore, our twin bond was stronger than most, and we both relied on each other for comfort in times of need.     The time was drawing near, and we would soon be turning eighteen.  In two weeks, we would be leaving the Jungle Pack.  I should have felt sad to leave the only home I’d ever known, but I was more excited than anything.  I would definitely miss my family, and they would miss us, but Zoey and I would be with other family members.     Zoey was nervous about telling our parents what we were planning, but I had no problem letting them know.  It didn’t seem right to wait until the last minute.  This way, they could spend extra time with us before we go, and that’s exactly what they did.     Over the past few weeks, my parents made it a point to do something with us.  Sometimes, we would go swimming at the water inlet.  Other times, they would sit down and paint with us.  They even took to training with us, so my dad could see for himself that we were strong and ready to go out into the world.     It was nice to have the extra time with my family.  If I was going to hang-out with anybody, I much preferred it to be my parents or siblings. Jace     After I took over the Beta title, my parents built a small cabin next to Aunt Kay’s cottage.  I technically lived at the Beta’s suite in the pack house, but I preferred to spend my free time at my parent’s place.     Unfortunately, I hadn’t been lucky enough to find my mate, despite traveling with my parents, and I was already in my early twenties.  To be honest, I had come to the conclusion that my mate was no longer among the living, but I still held onto a small thread of hope.     If I were to meet a woman, who caught my attention and gained my affection, I would take her as my chosen mate.  Too bad for me, none of the she-wolves at the Twisted Moon Pack could hold my attention for more than a day or two.     My father and I were sitting in the living room, discussing my future at the Twisted Moon Pack, and whether or not it was the future I wanted for myself.  I loved being the Beta, and I was great when it came to training our warriors.  How could I not be, when I learned from my father?     The problem was… my heart wasn’t in it.  I longed to find a woman who could give me everything I truly wanted more than anything.  Love, a family of my own, and happiness I couldn’t find by myself.     When I told my dad how I was feeling on the matter, he suggested I join them for another adventure.  They planned to spend some time at the Eagle Moon Pack, training anybody who wanted to join forces with Savannah, so they would be ready to fight vampires.     Once the others were trained, they would be accompanying Savannah on her mission to overthrow King Derek.  They planned to travel to the Werewolf Kingdom, which was one of the few places I had never visited.       Hoping to find my mate along the way, I was quick to take him up on his offer, but that meant leaving my post as the Beta for a little while.  It wasn’t the first time, since we did a lot of traveling, but the Alpha didn’t mind, since our territory was protected by the spell my mum helped cast.
