The woman cackled, and Lorenzo joined her when he saw the look on Teya’s face. ‘The ancient Incas brewed this drink a thousand years ago,’ he said. ‘It has not changed in all that time.’ Teya began to pass it to Jake, but before he could take it the lady snatched it back, scowling. She waddled away, muttering something they couldn’t catch. Lorenzo tried to give her some coins as she passed, but she swatted his hand away, the coins flying down the dusty slope. ‘What was that about?’ asked Jake. ‘I am not sure,’ said Lorenzo, scratching his head. ‘It was Aymara that she spoke. Something about a little bird. A baby bird. Teya, you have made a special friend I believe.’ He laughed and shrugged as he moved away to speak to the Irish girls. Teya was drowsy, sitting in the shade of the tree.
