(Chad is back) Shawn’s POV
Miranda burst into my office, rushing in, the sound of her heels against the tiles puncturing the silence as she ran to my desk. With her handbag in her cubital fossa and her phone in her hand which she stared at. She banged my desk, her face still glued to her phone. I wondered if she came into the wrong office or something because she would never dare bang my desk or run into my office as if she was in need of a neurologist. I stared at her uninterestedly, my chin on my palm and my elbow on my desk. I waited patiently for her to speak. She finally did, "Boss. There's a report!" She yelled, happily, a grin drawing itself on her lips. I still stared at her uninterestedly, waiting for her to regain her senses. I kindly waited for her to speak again. Silence filled the air and she finally took her eyes off her phone and looked at my straight face. She knew immediately and my intimidating aura made the phone slip off her hand. It fell to the floor, crashing loudly. She stuttered, scratching the back of her neck. She tried to bend and pick the phone but she was afraid my looks would kill her before she would make it back up so she didn't bother picking it up, she only lowered her gaze in respect, looking at the phone. "What do you want?" I said calmly, still in the same position. Though my voice was as solemn as ever, she flinched. "I- i-" she couldn't get the words out. "You?" I inquired. "I- there's a... Report.... It-" She stuttered, trembling in fear. I didn't touch her, I didn't maintain eye contact with her but I knew what I was doing to her. It wasn't physical, it wasn't emotional. It's something not to be explained. I was tutoring her with my gaze, with my aura. I heightened the oppression in my aura again, yet I was mute. I looked less like I had not a care in the world, thanks to my foxy upturned lazy eyes. "I.. Was- Chad... He is back, boss" She stuttered. "Where is he?" I asked, still in the same position, though anger began to boil in me as I heard the name escape her lips. Chad was my best friend back then, though I didn't believe in friendship so much, I preferred family since they would never betray one. However, I erased my own beliefs because of Chad. Chad was a great man, I trusted him and he trusted me back. Though he was really older than I was, we were best friends. We were both in the same business line and due to fate, we had the same undercover jobs. We both embezzled money from the government, and we both used bars and casinos to cover up that embezzlement personality. Chad and I helped each other, in both fields but I helped him more. However, he was a traitor and he ran with 5 billion of my money and somehow generated a document and flash drive that held evidence of me embezzling money from the government which could have taken me to jail. But, I found a way to destroy the evidence, but before I could get my money back, he fled out of the country to somewhere in Africa and he was nowhere to be found. He became a shadow, ghosting and lurking. At some point, he didn't bother lurking anymore. He fled with my money! Tranquillity took over and she knew what it meant so she quickly spoke, "He's back at his abandoned mansion. He's hiding there with a girl and a woman said to be his wife." She said, I nodded, grabbing my keys and sunshade as I rose up and lunged at the door. I heard a rustle and knew she was picking her phone. Her heels against the tiles approached me. "Should I come after you sir?" She asked. I kept mute then replied, "your choice", my voice reverberating in the office. "I want to, sir" I opened the door and closed it as soon as I walked out of it, she should never expect me to open the door for her, she should know I was not a gentleman and I would never be. I would always be glad to say I was a devil in human costume. I entered the Limo and asked my chauffeur to drive and I asked him if he remembered. Miranda sat beside me, occasionally stealing glances at me as if I had grown horns. We finally arrived at the old abandoned mansion. It didn't even have proper security any longer. I knew Chad would never live without security but he was trying hard to fool people that he wasn't around. I walked into the compound and headed straight for the building. I opened the door gently and went into the living area. No one was there and I started to doubt Miranda. I looked back at her, she herself looked in doubt. I asked her to wait in the living room and she did as I went into a room. I didn't know why I chose that room but I just felt a hunch and a curiosity I had to satisfy. There, I saw a girl unbuttoning her shirt in the room as she looked at herself in a mirror, facing it. I stared at her weirdly from behind and maintained her contact with her through the mirror. She immediately screamed out loud, abruptly turning to me and using her hand to cover her chest. Though I didn't get what she was covering as she was already wearing a brassiere underneath the shirt, I threw my gaze away. A man ran in from the door and behold, he was Chad. I turned to Chad and approached him, his eyes widened in shock as I stepped closer to him. Anticipation filled the air as we both maintained eye contact and his daughter was just staring at us, scared. Miranda also came in, not knowing what was going on. “Surprise!” I shouted coldly, only to read Chad's reaction. I stopped my moves and brought a cigarette out of my pocket and placed it between my lips, I fetched a lighter from my other pocket and lit the cigarette. Chad hadn't changed a bit. It's been years but he didn't age, yet he was just 35 when I met him and I was 25, then he betrayed me when he was 39. We were friends for four years! Now that I was 35, he should be 45. “I-” He tried to speak but lost confidence. I moved closer to him and puffed the smoke on his face, “What was that you were saying?” I asked. He coughed then replied, “It's been Six years, Shawn. You can't be doing this. We're friends,”, I yelled to his face, “We WERE friends!!”. Just how dare he say we're friends after the heartbreaking betrayal. He thought I would let it slide, he should know me better and if he didn't, this was a chance for him to. He stepped back in fear. “We just can't be doing this, Shawn. Let's leave all that in the past. I- I'm sorry. We were young and we did stupid things. I wish I could refund your money. Look, I only came back because things aren't pretty for me also. I lost everything and my wife is responsible, she had been pretending all along! We divorced and you know the law, she holds more percentage… and..and I ran out of business and money,” He said with tears in his eyes, he was pleading but not enough, I wanted to see him plead more passionately, I wanted to see him shed tears. I laughed then twitched back into my cold demeanor, looking at his pitiful soul via his eyes, “Birds of the same feathers,”. “Please, I can't repay you back now. What other way can I make it up to you?” He asked. I looked at his daughter and I knew how much I needed a girl, not like I would love her but I needed her to be with my daughter, Sara, though I already had a housekeeper watching after her. Also, I just needed a woman around me at least to watch my shoulders and be my FAKE wife. The girl gasped in fear as my gaze met hers, as if I just cut her limbs with my gaze. “I want your girl,” I said. “What?!” Chad yelled. “You can't let me take her?” I asked. He swallowed hard on his saliva and looked at his daughter then back at me then his daughter again. “I-” I raised my hand and he kept mute. “I give you two days to think about it. If you can't, then consider your life a practical living hell. You know what I'm capable of doing so don't play with me. Don't even attempt to…. Oh I forgot you can't, I mean you're not rich enough anymore,” I said and tears gathered in his eyes but I ignored him and only left him and exited the room.
