Connection

"Are you guys ready now?" Baku asked.

"Yes!" I answered.

Baku told us to cultivate our energy to prepare for the Purification rites during Full Moon. Opening the gate to the underworld, the other successors will serve as a backup for the Chosen of the Moon. They will keep the gate open while I travel with the souls of those who departed already. Usually, the job was only handled by Mayari alone since her spiritual energy is vast.

Since most of our spiritual energy was raw, we need to work together in performing the ritual.

Later that night, Makisig brought us to an open area where the three of us can train. It was a swamp in the middle of the forest. Makisig raised his hands, and we felt the surge of spiritual power coming from the ground. Vines appeared and slowly crawled on the ground towards the swap, creating a platform where we can stand.

Makisig told me to stand in the middle of the platform while Ani and Ester and on the smaller one. We followed his instructions. When we stood on the platform, we felt the spiritual energy gather around us. Makisig told us to concentrate and synchronize our powers.

I looked at the two to check if they are ready. My sister and Ani nodded as a response.

We closed our eyes and started to stabilize our spiritual energy. Little by little, the surge of power began to cluster around us. I told Ani and Ester to start resonating with my energy. As soon as we attempted that, we were suddenly blown away from the platform and fell in the water.

We climbed back at the platform again.

"Are you okay, guys?" I asked.

"Yes, we are," Ani answered.

"I'm sorry big brother, and I was surprised by the surge of energy. That's why I lost focus." Ester explained.

"It's okay, Ester. No need to be perfect, and it's also our first attempt. Let's do this step by step." I said and smiled at them.

"Thank you, big brother."

After that, we tried again resonating our energy. For the second time, we failed again. Both of them told me that I suddenly released more power than the amount that we need. On our third attempt, it was the same. Ani accidentally lost focus, and we fell on the water again. We failed over and over again.

We realized that it was not easy to resonate with our spiritual energy and the elemental affinity. Ester has a flame affinity, and it countered my ice affinity and Ani's water element. We need to think of a way on how we can connect our powers.

Makisig told us to take a rest, and we can continue the next day. We did not notice that it was already late in the afternoon, and the others waited for us. We were so immersed in our training.

Apo was holding a towel and gave it to me. We did not notice that we are soaking wet since we fell in the water several times. I thanked him, and we all went back to Makisig's place.

Baku asked us if how the training was and if there are any improvements. I shook my head and told him that there was no improvement. Besides, it was our first time. Ester said to him that we were having trouble connecting, especially our elements.

Baku told us that we should understand each other's powers first. Ester had defensive-type abilities, while Ani is on the support side. On the other hand, I am on the offensive side.

I understand now why we are not connecting easily. I told the girls that we need to find a way to tap on each other's energy.

We called it a day and decided to continue our training the next day. There are still two days left before the full moon.

On the following day of training, we started early to manage our elemental affinity with each other. Still, the results were the same. We are still having a hard time resonating with each other.

I asked Baku if there is an easier way to do this, but he also doesn't know how to do it. I tried to remember the shows that I usually watch in the real world. Maybe this could help.

If I am not mistaken, we can try to resonate if we connect physically. I told the two to go near me, and we held each other's hands. We closed our eyes and started to activate our powers. I can feel the energy coming from Ani and Ester. The sensation was tingling. We continued evoking our spiritual pressure, and I can sense the familiarity of their elements. We continued doing that, and our energy output was stabilizing. I opened my eyes, and I looked at the two girls. They were waiting for my signal.

It's time.

Oh, the gate of the underworld,

listen to thy order.

Open your path and let those souls in,

Give them judgment,

Lead them to their end.

With our bond,

Give them to their rightful place.

The swamp started to glow after saying the chant, and the water lilies floating there started to bloom. The water began to move, and waves hit the shore. Then a tiny portal started forming. We got excited by what we saw and lost focus. The energy flow got cut off, and we were hurled away by the sudden burst of energy. The swamp went back to normal.

The others rushed towards us and helped us to get out of the water. I looked at Ani and Ester, and all of us started laughing.

"Did you feel that?" Ani asked excitedly.

"Yes, big sister Ani. It was a nice warmth." Ester said.

"We were almost there. I'm glad that we were able to reach this level." I said and patted the head of the girls.

I looked at Makisig, and he smiled at us and gave us a thumbs-up as well.

"Good job, successors."
