Chapter 42: The Cloths of Heaven

1595 Words

By the time we get back above ground, my feet are aching from all the walking. Even my arms feel tired and leaden - not surprising, given that the package Gabby gave me before we parted ways feels as heavy as an anvil. I haven't yet peeked beneath the purple muslin to confirm my suspicions, but I'm pretty sure I already know what it is. She said that I'll find the answers I'm looking for inside of it. I'm itching to check it out, to see if my suspicions are correct - but I have to wait until I'm alone. I trust Sister Cora, but right now I just want to get back to my bedroom.  Sister Cora walks with me through the school grounds and along the narrow corridors of the building, silent all the way. She takes me as far as the landing of the spiral staircase that winds up the dormitory tower.
