I stare at the beautiful old Bible for a few minutes before finally opening it. Gabby's Bible. One of her most treasured possessions. The outside front cover is deceptively plain - worn-out old red-dyed leather of some sort, with the words "The Holy Bible" burned into the leather, and vellum binding. The pages inside are as thin as gossamer, delicate and brown-stained with time, and almost transparent in the candlelight. It's unsurprising, given the immense age of the book. The date printed on the inside is "The Year of Our Lord, 1531" - making is almost five hundred years old. The musty smell of mildew, mould and dust is infused into the pages, making me sneeze as I carefully flick through them.
