CHAPTER 2

"Yes." Employees from the Public Relations Department, who had been temporarily assigned to assist with the reception, all reacted in unison. Freddy's gaze finally returned to Melissa. "Melissa, I heard you're the Sales Department's top performer. Later, you'll be with the new boss and responsible for him. You don't have to be concerned about anything else." Melissa nodded, but another Public Relations Department employee, Madonna, gloated, "Melissa if our new boss is still single, will you use the opportunity to get close to him?" It was difficult to establish a rapport with the new boss. Everyone expected it to be a challenging task. Karen got the position because no one else was interested. "What happens tonight will have a significant impact on our future," Freddy replied, looking Madonna in the eyes. Take yourself seriously. No one said anything after Freddy admonished them. They took a deep breath and put their best foot forward. Freddy had nothing to do with her nervousness. After all, the situation had arisen so unexpectedly. Just when everyone thought the company was finally at peace, the board of directors published a statement stating that the boss wanted a new individual to take over the company. This new-hired big boss, on the other hand, was enigmatic. The leaders of numerous departments inquired about him using a variety of methods, but they were unable to locate any information about him. Melissa was not known for being nosy. But she couldn't help but crane her neck to peek at the entryway, curious as to who this powerful figure was. "Yes, yes, yes. All of the directors, as well as the new CEO, have arrived." The receptionist's voice was relayed to the other employees via walkie-talkie. Her coworkers' attire was subconsciously altered, and they stood respectfully in their positions. Melissa trailed closely behind Freddy, ready to greet the mysterious boss for whom everyone had been waiting a long time. After a few feet, a tall man in a silver-gray suit, surrounded by many men in black suits, strode neatly towards the lobby. She was taken aback at first. The tall man in a silver-gray suit in front of the audience was Alexandra, her newly married husband! "Impossible!" Melissa believed it to be a trick of the light. She shook her head and instantly closed her eyes. The man's appearance did not change when she opened her eyes and looked again. She could have made a mistake if it had been someone else, but this was her new husband. She couldn't possibly be mistaken. His features were razor-sharp, and his height was precisely 1.88 meters. He had a solid frame and walked with a refined demeanor. This man was just like her new husband, no matter what he did. "Alexandra?" Melissa locked her gaze on the man and inadvertently yelled out his name. The man's focus went to her as he heard her voice. Melissa was so anxious looking into his eyes that she almost forgot to breathe. She never imagined that her "average" newlywed spouse would become the new leader of her company. Her brain buzzed as she glanced at him. She felt as if she was about to erupt. The man's stare remained on her for a brief while before moving away as if he didn't recognize her. Melissa's heart fell instantly after what he had just done. He was unmistakably Alexandra's new husband. Why was he staring at her with such uninterested eyes? Various thoughts rushed across her mind after a while. The most likely scenario was that she was having a nightmare. It was a fanciful fantasy. Alexandra had always been a patient and compassionate person. He was courteous in his speech and actions. He'd never pretend he didn't know who she was. She fiercely pinched herself and twitched her mouth in anguish, only to discover that this was not a dream. Because it wasn't a dream, there was another option. This man may share Alexandra's appearance, but he may be a completely different person. Alexandra drew Melissa aside and reprimanded her in hushed tones "Do you know what kind of occasion this is, Melissa? What are you doing with your life?" Melissa Daly was irritated as if she had been jolted awake from a dream. "Hurry and keep up," Freddy said again. Melissa nodded and followed the new boss fast. She had kept her feelings hidden and faced the huge boss, who was professionally identical to her new husband. Freddy accelerated her pace, catching up to the new boss and the others. "Let's all greet the directors and our new boss!" she exclaimed as she pulled open the banquet hall door for the press. The conference hall erupted in applause as Freddy's voice faded. Everyone waited for the unknown giant boss to appear at the door. Melissa uttered a hushed gasp and trailed following the enormous boss. She hurriedly handed over some paperwork after the big boss was seated. Despite her professional background, the reality that the company's new boss was actually her new spouse was too much for her to bear. Two pieces of paper from the documents in her palm dropped to the ground as she trembled. Melissa was going to lean down to grab the files when Alexandra grabbed them before. "Wait for me at home tonight," he said softly in her ear. Melissa would still treat him as a man who simply looked like her husband if Alexandra hadn't said these comments. Melissa's mind was blown the moment he uttered it. She was taken aback and had no idea what to do. She had some time to reset her emotions because the reporters' attention was not on her. She went unnoticed by the media. The Public Relations Department's keen-eyed personnel, on the other hand, did not overlook this minor incident. The Public Relations Department was well-prepared for the event, and all of the other departments worked well together. The press conference went really well since Alexandra was charismatic enough to take on the reporters. "Melissa, the way you "accidentally" dropped the paperwork just now was amazing - you successfully drew our new boss's attention," Madonna started as soon as the new boss and the other directors left. Melissa gave a little frown. "Manager Freddy, I'll go back to the Sales department after I finish my work here," she stated as she turned to Freddy. Madonna pounded her foot in anger as she saw Melissa turn away from her. "She didn't even look at me! She just turned her back on me! Why is she so conceited?" "Don't simply stir up trouble all day long," Freddy remarked, glaring at Madonna. You will be the next one to depart if you continue to cause problems. Simply do your work well if you are capable. You'll be qualified to be arrogant as long as you rise to a greater level than she does." Madonna moved away, glaring at Melissa's back. "Understood, cousin," she said, clenching her teeth.
