CHAPTER 3

1309 Words
Melissa returned to her workplace in the Sales department and overheard her coworkers discussing the new boss. Everyone had something to say about the new boss as if they had known him for a long time. "Melissa, you're very lucky to be the first one working side by side with the boss," her colleague Laura exclaimed as she rushed over. "It's all just work," Melissa answered, a tiny smile on her face. Even though we were next to each other, it just worked. You can ask our manager to send you to work for the boss in the future if you think you can work well with him." "Although our new boss is gorgeous and nice, I don't have the courage to approach him," May remarked swiftly, given his eyes and charisma." "A routine inspection will be conducted by the new supervisor. Return to your original spots and complete your tasks!" Sebastian, the sales department manager, stepped into the office and scolded his staff. The new boss was on his way to check things out! Melissa couldn't help but swallow in terror when she heard the news. Her heart was about to jump out of her throat because she was so nervous. She needed some time to process the reality that Alexandra, her new husband, was now the company's new boss. For a while, she wasn't ready to face him. Except for Melissa, who was still standing there dazed, the other coworkers all returned to their seats. "Melissa, don't you have anything else to do?" Sebastian questioned, looking at Melissa. "I'm all right." Melissa regained her composure and silently tightened her fists. She swiftly returned to her seat and switched on the computer, where she checked the information of a client. The elevator ding rung and Alexandra reappeared in front of Melissa, surrounded by a throng of individuals. Fortunately, Alexandra had only come to say hello to the department's staff. He led the group away after listening to Sebastian's rapid report. The department grew rowdy again once Alexandra left. Even Sebastian, who was usually quite serious, couldn't stop himself from joining in on the talk. The only thing they discussed was whether this dashing boss was single or married. Melissa sat silently and listened to their conversation. Would she have been skinned alive if this group of women had realized that her name was placed as his spouse on the boss's marriage certificate? This difficult workday had come to a close. Melissa grabbed her belongings and left after the rest of her coworkers had left. What kind of mentality should she have when she finishes her work throughout the day to encounter Alexandra at night? Melissa was at a loss for what to do. She couldn't decide whether or not she should return to her "home" with Alexandra. Melissa had a habit of turning right outside the building, towards the subway door B. She realized she was now living with her new husband after a time of strolling. Alexandra's flat was conveniently located near Tech Valley. She could get there in three bus stops or half an hour on foot. Melissa took a look at the clock. It was just 5 p.m. at this point. She chose to walk home since she couldn't figure out how to face Alexandra. She was able to ponder what had transpired between them. Melissa decided to go down the valley and get some fresh produce and meat from a neighboring grocery. Filling one's stomach was remained the primary priority, no matter how serious one's issues were. She didn't know what Alexandra liked to eat, so she took out her phone to ask him, but she was scared that he wouldn't be able to answer it, so she stuffed it back into her purse. She returned home after picking up the ingredients. A familiar man greeted her as she approached the apartment's elevator. He stood extremely straight and faced the elevator. He was dressed in a light gray suit. Alexandra's figure was really well-crafted. From distance, he appeared to be quite attractive. Melissa was perplexed as to why such a distinguished man, the CEO of a major corporation, would go on a blind date and that she was the lucky girl chosen. "You're back," says the narrator. Melissa approached him and attempted a friendly greeting. "Yes." Alexandra returned her gaze. He didn't modify his demeanor; he seemed unconcerned. Melissa stood behind him, giving him a weak grin. She took a look at him and noticed that he seemed a little different today. She couldn't put her finger on what was different. She caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of her eye. He was wearing a pair of golden-framed glasses today, which made him appear calmer and more subdued. Melissa silently sighed in her heart. When he met her today, he had just said a few words again. He spoke in hushed tones much of the time. She was at a loss for what to do. She desired to close the distance between them.   She didn't know how to approach him now that she knew his astonishing genuine identity. Alexandra reached out a hand to her while she was thinking about this, but she took a little step back unconsciously to preserve a safe distance from him. He answered calmly, "I'll carry those for you." Despite the fact that she had kept her distance, he was not angry. Instead, he took the bag in his hand nonchalantly. Melissa felt a scalding sensation on her face. He had only intended to assist her in carrying the luggage, but she was preoccupied with her thoughts. She gazed down at Alexandra's powerful army, which was effortlessly carrying the heavy bag. Her heart sank with a warm sensation. "Even if there is no love, even if he is the boss of the company," she reasoned optimistically, "as long as the two of them could devote themselves to managing this marriage, it would be great." The two of them stepped into the elevator, and during the trip up the elevator, no one said anything. Alexandra returned home, gathered her belongings in the kitchen, and whispered softly, "I'm not a very good cook. I'll have to bother you later tonight." "You are free to complete your assignment. I'll take care of the cooking." Melissa stowed her suitcase, removed her coat, and donned her apron. He smiled and said, "Thank you." Melissa attempted an uneasy smile as she said, "You're too polite." They were already married, but the way they interacted made them feel like two strangers. She thought it was fair for a wife to prepare meals for her husband, but his manner of communication with her created a barrier between them. Even if their marriage was not founded on love, she believed that their interaction should not be so distant. She didn't give it much thought any longer. She walked back to the kitchen and turned around. She immediately rinsed and poured the rice into the saucepan. She then separated and washed the vegetables... Melissa noticed a tall figure standing at the kitchen entrance from the corner of her eye after a time. "What's the matter?" she questioned as she turned around. "Please let me know if you need any assistance," Alexandra said sternly. His tone remained steady, but it was a touch worried. "Hold on a second. "I'll be done in no time!" Melissa stuck her head out the door and examined the clock on the living room wall. It was now 7:30 p.m., and he looked hungry. "I need to get back fast after work tomorrow," she reasoned. I should prepare the dishes ahead of time so he may eat right immediately when he gets home."This marriage was Alexandra's choice, regardless of who she was. She must give it her all in order to succeed.
