The Night Everything Broke
The wedding venue sparkled like something out of a fairy tale.
White roses lined the aisle. Crystal chandeliers bathed the ballroom in warm light. Guests laughed and chatted excitedly as they waited for tomorrow’s ceremony.
Tomorrow was supposed to be the happiest day of Amara Bennett’s life.
Instead, it became the day her world shattered.
Balancing a box of wedding decorations in her arms, Amara hurried down a quiet hallway toward Daniel’s private suite.
A smile touched her lips.
Daniel had been working nonstop to prepare for the wedding. She wanted to surprise him with his favorite dessert before heading home.
She stopped outside the door.
Laughter drifted from inside.
A woman’s laughter.
Amara frowned.
At this hour?
She raised her hand to knock.
Then she heard Daniel’s voice.
“God, I’ve been waiting for this all day.”
Her hand froze.
The woman giggled.
“What if Amara finds out?”
Daniel laughed.
The sound was cold.
Mocking.
“Find out what? That I’m finally enjoying myself?”
Amara’s heartbeat stumbled.
“No, seriously,” the woman said. “You’re marrying her tomorrow.”
“Exactly.”
Silence.
Then Daniel spoke again.
Words that ripped through her chest.
“After tomorrow, I’ll have access to everything. Once the paperwork is done, I’ll dump her.”
The box slipped from Amara’s fingers.
It hit the floor with a crash.
Inside the room, silence followed.
Her entire body trembled.
No.
No.
This couldn’t be happening.
The door suddenly opened.
Daniel stood there.
His shirt was partially unbuttoned.
A woman sat on the couch behind him.
Amara recognized her instantly.
Sophie.
Her best friend.
The woman she’d trusted for years.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Nobody breathed.
Then Sophie looked away guiltily.
Daniel didn’t.
He simply sighed.
As if he had been caught doing something inconvenient.
“Amara.”
The way he said her name made her stomach turn.
“How long?” she whispered.
Neither of them answered.
Tears burned her eyes.
“How long?” she repeated.
“Six months,” Sophie admitted quietly.
The world tilted.
Six months.
Half a year.
Half a year of lies.
Half a year of pretending.
Half a year of making her look like a fool.
Amara felt something inside her break.
She pulled the engagement ring from her finger.
Daniel’s eyes widened.
“Amara, stop being dramatic.”
The words hit harder than the betrayal.
Dramatic?
Tomorrow was supposed to be their wedding.
Tomorrow was supposed to be the beginning of their future.
And he called her dramatic.
Without another word, she threw the ring at him.
Then she ran.
Past confused guests.
Past shocked employees.
Past the life she thought she had built.
Outside, rain crashed from the sky.
Cold water soaked her clothes instantly.
She didn’t care.
She kept running.
Kept crying.
Kept trying to outrun the pain.
Her phone vibrated.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Finally, she glanced down.
A hospital notification appeared on the screen.
Her pregnancy test results were ready.
Amara froze beneath the rain.
With shaking fingers, she opened the message.
The words appeared instantly.
Pregnancy Test Result: Positive.
Her breath caught.
The phone nearly slipped from her hand.
Pregnant.
She was pregnant.
A sob escaped her lips.
The man she loved had betrayed her.
Her best friend had betrayed her.
And now she was carrying his child.
Standing alone in the storm, Amara realized she had never felt more lost.
Then the headlights cut through the darkness.
A sleek black luxury car stopped in front of her.
The rear door opened.
A deep voice spoke from inside.
“Get in.”
Amara looked up.
And for the first time, she met the man who would change her life forever.
Adrian King.
The billionaire everyone feared.
And the last person she should have trusted.
