Five minutes later the door chime went again. Drake checked who it was and frowned as he saw that Jacobs was waiting outside. He opened the door and Jacobs stepped in. “Jacobs, what are you doing here?” “You sent for me, Captain.” “No I didn’t!” “Ah, but you did, Captain. You might not have realised it, but I received a very strong sense you needed me to come and talk to you.” Drake opened his mouth to argue then realised Jacobs was right. He sighed, and gestured for the cook to sit down. “It’s the damn Azimuth,” said Drake. “This bloody hellship is tearing the crew apart. If they’re not suffering from nightmares they’re busy trying to gouge lumps out of each other. And I’m driving myself into the ground trying to stop it happening, to give them some space. It’s not working.”
