1630 Words
The dining hall glows under the white light. The delicious food rests calmly on top of a rectangular wooden table. “Wow, my favorite. Mom, thank you so much.”, Katrina squeals sitting at her usual place. Her small heart-shaped face glows with a warm smile. Though her mind is a mess but she does her best to mask it now. She doesn’t want her parents to feel uncomfortable or under any kind of pressure. She wants to enjoy her time with her family. “Dad, look mom has also prepared your favorite steak. Why don’t you try it?”, she beams. Mr.Wilson smiles and starts eating quietly. The dinner goes well. But every person sitting at the dining table is diving into their thoughts. Caroline Wilson and Kevin Wilson are trying to figure out a way to present the truth in a better way. While Katrina on the other hand has already made her mind to help her parents by marrying Alexander. Throughout the day she thought of various possibilities and finally chose to look on the bright side. After dinner, they sit in the living room but silently. And Katrina knows her mom and dad are worried already too much and are having a tough time. Finally, Mr. Wilson decides to break the tranquility, “Katrina, we want to tell you something and then you have to make… a decision. Before I tell you…” Before he could continue, Katrina cuts him, “Dad, I know.” Both Caroline and Kevin’s eyes go wide. “What? What do you know my child?”, Caroline Wilson tries to fake a smile but fails miserably. Katrina smiles calmly towards her mother, looking down at her hands she speaks “I know that Mr.Hamilton has offered to save our business in exchange for my marriage with Alex.” She looks at her father then her mother, their eyes telling her many emotions. “And I have decided to marry him. Saving our business won’t benefit us only but also to those employees whose families depend on us. We have to think for them first. They completely depend on us. Some have elders in their family, some have children. We can’t let them suffer just for our temporary benefit. Besides, Alex and I have been friends since childhood. We know each other.” That’s a reasonable answer. “Oh my child.”, Caroline cried out. She hugged her daughter tightly not wanting to leave her. She never knew when her little girl grew up to support her family but one thing is sure, her kindness. “I always knew you were kind but today thinking about others you have shown true kindness. Even I was selfish at some point, thinking not to let you get married to Alex. But… but…”, Mr. Wilson cried out too with them. Instead of thinking of herself, she is thinking about others. “Oh! My poor child. I don’t know what should I say. You have always surprised us, making us feel pride as well. Now, I can only give you blessings for your future and marriage.”, Caroline Wilson spoke between sobs. Her tears won’t stop rolling down her cheeks. The atmosphere is very emotional. A father and a mother are crying while giving their best wishes to their lovely, kind daughter. Oh! So emotional. Caroline and Kevin both hug Katrina tightly until they felt tired and fell asleep on the couch. ….…………… When the sunshine enters the living room it casts a beautiful scene. Mrs. And Mr. Wilson are tightly embracing each other on the couch and a white blanket covers their bodies preventing them from catching a cold. It forms a perfect scenery where a couple is sleeping calmly like they are the happiest people in the world. No one can say that the previous night they faced the hardest phase of their lives and even cried until they slept. Well, Katrina is missing here. The whole night she couldn’t sleep. So, she got up at the midnight, covered her parents, and left the villa. She came out in the garden and laid down on the swing. Looking up at the sky, she stared at the beautiful full moon. She kept asking whether her decision was right or not. A cool breeze suddenly hit her and if it wasn’t for her dozing state she would have believed that it said, “You are not wrong my child.” “I must be dreaming”, she thought and allowed sleep to relax her tired body. When she woke up it was around five in the morning. A hummingbird came flying and settled on the top arm of the swing. Soon, the surrounding was filled by her chirping. Hearing her, many others also came. It felt like they wanted to taste the new flower in the garden and they can’t wait to suck a drop of her sweet nectar. Recently woken up Katrina looks like a blooming red rose. She looks up to find many birds of different colors around her. She is surprised to find them around her. Staring at the birds intently, she feels motivated. To her, every color represents a different person/situation in this world. To make it a beautiful place we must have all kinds of people/situations and we have to bear them, face them. Fresh positive energy fills every cell of her body. Quickly, she leaps on her feet and brings a bowl of water and few grains to feed the little creatures. She opens her palm and invites the hummingbirds to eat. Seeing her kind gesture, all of the birds jump on her palm, chirping, and hopping. The birds have seen most of the people in this city and no one has ever been this kind to them. No one offered them food and always shoved them away. They love her nice gesture and bless her good wishes. Although they don’t eat the grain, still they enjoy her kindness. They seem to be dancing and rubbing their heads on her palm to inhale her sweet smell. It continues for almost an hour, later they leave because they have to feed their nestlings after all. At six, she comes inside and prepares breakfast. “Kate, my child, what are you doing?”, Mrs. Wilson questions yawning. “Good morning, mom. I got up early. So, I decided to cook for us. Why don’t you go and take a shower.”, Katrina replied in her sweet voice. Caroline Wilson smiled and left. ….……. “Kevin, in the evening we have an event. And I think it will be best to announce Kate and Alex’s wedding tonight. We can also have an engagement party. Sounds good?”, Mr. Hamilton suggests. He came half an hour ago to discuss plans with them. “Well. Sounds good. I’ll let Caroline and Kate know.”, Mr. Kevin Wilson smiles lightly. Just then Katrina brings then coffee. “As you wish Mr. Hamilton. We can announce the news tonight.” “Okay then. I have arranged a stylist and makeup artist for you and let Sage know the address. Be ready by four in the evening.”, Mr. Hamilton utters and hugs Katrina warmly. Giving his usual brotherly hug to Mr. Wilson he leaves the villa. ….….. In the evening, as decided Katrina goes to the stylist and the stylist does his best job. Our girl comes out of the room to find her parents waiting for her. She wears a beautiful peach color tight gown. It hugs her body tightly till her slim waist and has a slit till the upper thigh. Her hair was messily tied up in a high bun perfectly revealing her long snow-white neck. A few strands outline her heart-shaped face. The light makeup compliments her white skin tone. She didn’t allow the artist to cake her face with powders and cream. She doesn’t like it. So, her beauty looks more natural. She walks to her mom wearing a matching high heel sandal. Although the dress gives a seductive look to her but her innocence outshines it and matches beautifully to her long body. “You look so beautiful my daughter.”, Caroline praises the beauty of her daughter. Tears fill her eyes. She continues wiping her tears, “Mr. Hamilton is waiting for us downstairs. Let’s go.” As they descend the staircase, Katrina looks like an angel fallen from heaven. Her heart beats loudly and with trembling legs she continues her journey until she reaches the bottom step Her heart stops beating when her eyes meet with Alex’s black orbs. He stares deeply at her while sitting leisurely on the luxurious couch. His dangerous look scares her but she gathers her courage to look directly into his eyes. She has witnessed those piercing looks many times in her life and each time they managed to win her heart. Suddenly, Alexander Hamilton stands up from his seat. He strides in Katrina’s direction with his hands in his pocket. Katrina finds his dangerous aura a bit intimidating. She also finds her 5’9 frame useless in front of his 6’5. When she gazes at her face she observes those thick brows frowning. Then her eyes move to his long thin nose followed by his thin flawless lips. And the chiseled jaw doesn’t go unnoticed. She continues to gape into his empty eyes. Unexpectedly, Alexander pulls his right hand out of the pant pocket and offered it to her. For a second her gaze oscillates between his extended hand and his eyes. Finally, she holds his hand hesitantly. “Let’s go, my lovely fiancee.”, his cold voice announces.
