Chapter 4: Interesting Offer

1249 Words
“Good morning, dad.”, Alexander greeted his father with the same cold voice. “Good morning, son.”, Mr. Stuart Hamilton replies. “So, how is everything going?”, he asks casually.  Alexander sits down on his swivel and starts to go through a file on top of his desk. “Nothing special.”, he speaks without looking at his father. He continues after a second of pause, “I wonder what brings you here” Mr. Stuart Hamilton has expected this after all he knows his son. He doesn’t like to beat about the bush. A chuckle leaves his lips, “Before I tell you the reason, why not have a cup of coffee with me?” Just then a servant arrives holding a tray.  The middle-aged servant serves them the coffee with breakfast and leaves the office to give them privacy.  Meanwhile, Alexander was staring at his father. He hasn’t seen him in a long time and now when they are together he can’t understand his father’s true intentions. Before he could read it on his face had it been some business issue or another family problem, he would understand his father’s behavior.  But today is different.  He decides to play along so, he stands up and walks to sit beside Mr. Stuart Hamilton on the expensive couch. With his long slim fingers, he picks up the cup and brings it to his thin pink lips. Taking a sip he turns to his father, “How is everyone at home?” Since he overtook the major part of his father’s business he has been living away. He wanted to live in a more quiet and less crowded place as compared to their house in the city. So, he bought a mansion in the countryside and shifted there.    He seldom visits his parents’ house, just like last night. “Good. Everyone is good. Today morning your mother arrived after visit your grandmother.”, Mr. Hamilton replies.  With his reply, the office room falls silent. None of them spoke. Only the sipping of coffee could be heard. Finally, Mr. Hamilton breaks the ice.   “Son, when will you get married?”, Mr. Stuart Hamilton questioned his son.  “Never.”, Alexander answered bluntly.  From the way he answered, Mr. Stuart Hamilton, understood that he is going to have a tough time convincing him.  “Leave it.”, Mr. Stuart Hamilton sighs. “By the way, I have an offer for you. A very interesting one.” Alexander pauses and puts down the cup. “Is it for business or is it again forcing me to get married?”, Alexander makes a boring face because he isn’t interested in some stupid deal that will bound him. He thinks of himself as a free bird and according to him getting married is similar to getting caged.  Another reason is that he assumed that women only want money. Whosoever throws money, gets his desired woman. According to him, women don’t have self-respect. ‘All women are gold-diggers ', that’s what he says. An incident in the past is responsible for his cruel stereotype of women. “Actually, both.”, answers Mr. Stuart Hamilton. Hearing his words Alexander can’t help but roll his eyes.  “If you get married to the woman we want you to, then you can have my business in the north. All of it.”, he throws a challenging look at his son who is stunned after hearing his father’s ‘interesting offer’. He knows that it will be hard for Alexander to turn down his offer this time. Mr. Hamilton’s business in the north is one of the most money-yielding and growing companies. In this company, Mr. Hamilton mainly has a construction business. Along with it, he also employees all top-class architects, interior designers, and software developers to create new technologies as per their client orders, like developing special locker. Not only construction businesses but also many hotels, hospitals, and universities are under their name.  The reason why they are famous in the north is because of their charity trusts. They have helped most of the poor to get a good education and become one of the best workers in the world. They owe their life to the P.S. Group. Almost, every person in the north wants to work for them. It has allowed Mr. Stuart Hamilton very much to expand his business without much difficulty. “I would like to know who this woman is.”, Alexander is suddenly interested in knowing about the woman.  He had always wanted to overtake his father’s business in the north but couldn’t succeed, even though he managed to expand his business in the south almost ten times in just two years. But now suddenly a woman appears and his father wants him to marry her and get the north business in exchange.    This woman must be very special, he thinks.  In his mind, he makes some random guesses but couldn’t think of anyone as perfect to be his future wife. “Katrina Wilson.”, Mr. Hamilton announces with confidence and pride. He bears a smug expression defining his satisfaction for her to be Alexander’s wife perfectly. On the other hand, Alexander feels a huge turmoil growing inside him. Shock, rage, and what not rises in him. Since that incident involves Katrina, he can’t help but hate her more every time he thinks or hears about her. Suddenly his handsome face turns dark due to anger. The cup in his hand is on the verge of breaking into multiple pieces. He purses his lips in a thin line.     The atmosphere in the office becomes tense. The temperature drops down a few degrees. “That w***e”, he shakes in anger. “She is again using her charms. How dare she?” Whore? What is he saying? I can’t understand, can you? “What are you thinking, son?”, Mr. Hamilton’s words bring Alexander out of his train of thoughts.  “Why she?”, anger drips from his cold voice. His icy coldness doesn’t affect his father even a bit.  He smiles, “Because she is perfect for you my son. She is kind, caring, beautiful, and intelligent. It is hard to find someone like her. Plus, you both have been friends since childhood. Isn’t she good enough?” Seeing his father praising the woman he hates most, his blood boils. He clenches his chiseled jaw tightly, “Well. I’ll marry her.”, he speaks through gritted teeth.  Oh! He agreed.  Poor Katrina. I pity her.  “What? Did he agree? I didn’t expect it to happen this easily.”, Mr. Stuart Hamilton thinks.  “Okay, then son. Tell me when you are free so we can prepare for your wedding.”, Mr. Stuart Hamilton puts down his empty cup while speaking. He has a very wide smile on his thin lips. “Robert will let you know, dad.”, Alexander utters while standing up. The coffee cup was still in his hands.  “Now I have to take my leave, son.”, with this Mr. Stuart Hamilton walks out of the office.  As soon as the door closes, Alexander smashes the cup on the white marble floor. He shakes in anger as he roars, “Katrina Wilson you don’t have any idea what is waiting for you.”
