CHAPTER 3

1088 Words
Marianne POV After Mr. Rogers continuous meeting cancellation, he had mailed some documents to me which I had sent Kylie to receive. I had gone through the documents carefully thinking it was a business proposal but it wasn't. Rather it was a duplicate of the mall documents which doesn't belong to dad who had deceived me and mom into thinking he owned the shopping mall whereas, it belongs to Ferdinand Mateo. Who doesn’t know Ferdinand Mateo? He was the multi billionaire who occupies the fourth spot in the Forbes world richest list. I don't know how he was connected with dad in the first place but, that's not the issue here. I felt betrayed and I almost cursed dad for his deceit but mum warned me not to. We had several meetings with Mr. Rogers who acted as a link between us and Ferdinand. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that I relocated from Canada to New York City to manage a Cake N' Confectioneries company. I accepted the offer at once leaving mom who had refused to relocate. To my delight, my transportation and accommodation was settled even before my arrival. Today was going to be my second week of managing the company I had been transferred to. Within these two weeks, I had instilled fear into the hearts of the staff that they all avoided me like a plague. Once, I was issuing orders to the bakers when the chief baker, an elderly man, countered my decision. Without any consultation or thinking twice, I relieved him of his job. He pleaded with me but I refused to pay heed to him. When other staff decided to plead on his behalf, I chased them away after threatening to relieve them of their jobs too. My PA was so scared of me that once, she peed on herself while speaking to me and I made a mockery of her until she resigned. My new PA was a male but that didn't prevent me from riding on him. I sat in my spacious office which looked like that of the shopping mall back in Canada, going through some files my PA had brought to me earlier. I was engrossed in the content that I didn't know when time passed. It was my buzzing phone that brought me back to reality. My boyfriend was on the line. "Hi" I said as I twisted my hair with my fingers. I was smiling like an expectant kid waiting to be gifted her favorite toy. "Hello dear, how are you doing today?" He asked Hearing his voice made my heart skip several beats and my smile grew wider. "I'm great. And you?" "Great. Busy?" "Nah" I declined shutting the file I was going through. "It's lunch time" he said "Yeah. I wish I was still in Canada. We would have lunch together in our favorite restaurant" I said dreamily "You're right" he muttered then went off the line I tried to contact him but he kept directing my calls to voicemail. I was about to voice out my anger when I heard a knock on my door. Still overwhelmed with my emotion, I swallowed my anger before ushering the person in. Right before me stood my boyfriend, all smiles with a bouquet of rose flowers in his hand. I thought it was a dream so I had to blink severally, bite my lips to be certain it was reality. My boyfriend, Carlten had taken the pains of flying from Canada down to New York City just to meet with me. "Carlton" I yelled, running towards him I jumped into his open arm as he chuckled. "You didn't tell me." I groaned after he placed a full kiss on my lips. "Surprising my baby is my priority." he smirked. We talked briefly before heading to Ketchup for a large lunch. When I returned, I felt bloated but I had to continue work. I had barely resumed working when I heard a knock on my door. I decided to ignore the knocker thinking it was my PA but it became persistent so I had no choice but to usher the person in. My face knotted into a frown when I saw the same man I had slapped at Canada, a month ago standing before me. From his countenance, I could tell he was surprised and so was I. We continued to stare at each other as if we were having a contest. I must confess, he was even better looking than Carlton. It was his messy hair that got my attention at first before his blue eyes which were hypnotizing. I felt lost in them for a while. My eyes slowly wandered to his sharp nose and his thin lips which he was biting for reasons best known to him. His chiseled jawline was something else. I remembered he didn't shave his beards when we met at first but here he was looking clean. This man ought to be a model if he wasn't one yet. I was still ogling at his perfect body when he made a screeching sound by pulling a chair out. "I didn't ask you to sit" I snapped at him I was expecting him to cower but he didn't. "I want to a sponge cake…" he went ahead to place his order while I stared weirdly at him For crying out loud, this is the office of the managing director and not the customer unit. When he had exhausted all he had to say, I cleared my throat "Are you done?" I asked "Do you want me to say more?" He smirked I became enraged that instant that my hand went straight to his face. I swear, I saw my fingers imprinted on his face but it was not enough for me. I proceeded to slap the other part of his face before I pulled him up roughly. "Mind how you speak to me you peasant." I yelled into his face before pushing him out of my office. I was still fuming in anger when I heard the familiar voice of Mr. Rogers in the lobby. I quickly arranged my clothes then walked out to meet him. He was chiding the man who was trying to explain what happened. He didn't hear of it, instead, he threatened to twist his ears saying he still had the right to. Suddenly, Mr. Rogers turned in my direction, he let out a sigh and then walked away leaving me perplexed.
