A few days have passed from the incident and I haven’t been able to look him in the eye. No one knows what kind of monster he is behind closed doors. My work colleagues have no clue what is happening at home. They think that Ethan and I have the perfect relationship and that’s far beyond the truth. I have to put on a face that makes me look happy on the outside even though the inside is screaming to get away from him. I know I can’t. I can’t hurt Jonathan and Kyler any more than I already have. They saw us together and the look on their faces said it all. They felt as if I had left them for him even though that’s far from the truth. I had tried to stay away from him by going to Star’s, but he found me and made sure I never left his side ever again.
Star was angry that I had let him take me away, but Caspian had held her back the night he had to keep her from losing me for good. I know he dislikes her with a passion but she’s my best friend and is married to his cousin. If she’s doesn’t turn up to the wedding neither will Caspian and I need my best friend there to ground me even if she will tell me I’m making a big mistake she always had my back as I have hers.
Tonight is D day Ethan has invited our friends and family here to celebrate his proposal. No one knows I’m pregnant. I haven’t told anyone yet I was hoping he would put this night behind him and forget he ever wanted us to get married. I guess I can call it kalma for leaving the two men that meant everything to me because I screwed up and I ran instead of telling them the truth. I’m not even sure if they would’ve been able to forgive me and put it behind us. But I would never know now because Ethan would never let me see either of them ever again.
I was lucky that he was letting me see Star. He told me that he was only allowing our friendship because of Cas. And I believed him if it was up to him I would have no one but him.
Ethan had set up the entire thing everyone had RSVP’d and said they would come. I knew Kaden wouldn’t come. We haven’t spoken since I went to uni because of what transpired between us. No one knows about it, not even Mom and Dad know the full extent of what exactly happened and why we were no longer talking. I had hoped he was there the first Christmas I had come home from uni but he wasn’t he had made it clear that Christmas he had no room in his life for me anymore and that’s why I never came home for Christmas after that especially when I knew he would be there he had shut me out and in turn, I had shut him out too.
Ethan had got a caterer in to do the food so I didn’t have to do it all. I couldn’t care less, this was his show, not mine. The tables were full of food and steamers across the rest of them with balloons and a ball on arch. Any one would think we were celebrating someone’s birthday but I knew better.
Ehtan wrapped his arms around me and kissed my neck, making me shudder. “I hope you don’t ruin tonight Carly. If you do, you’ll be punished.”
I gulped. “Don’t worry I won’t ruin your proposal.”
He smiled, kissing my cheek. “Good girl. Just remember what we talked about and look surprised okay.”
I nodded. “Okay.”
“Good girl, people will be here soon.”
The doorbell rang. Ethan grinned. “Right on time.” he kissed my cheek and took his arms from around and sauntered to the front door. I stood shaking I couldn’t f**k this up last time was bad enough, if I f**k up the tonight I hate to think what punishment he will dish out.
The room quickly filled with family and friends. I hugged so many times my arms were falling asleep. I hugged Caspian and Star who whispered in my ear. “Do you know what all this is about?”
“No.”
She nodded and pulled out of the hug.
A clanking on a glass and a clearing of a throat before they spoke. “Good evening everyone, I’m glad you could all make it. And I’m guessing that you all want to know why you’re all here.”
They all nodded.
“Well as you all know Carly and I have been together a while now and tonight I want to show her how much she means to me. Carly, babe, come here please.”
I gulped and took every dreaded step towards Ethan pretending to be confused at the same time. Once I reached him he got down on one knee a demand ring in between his thumb and forefinger. “Carly, babe. We’ve been down a Rocky Road together. We were friends for a few years before I realised that I wanted more and that you were the one for me.” He cleared his throat. All of this was utter bullshit. He’d missed out how we had met and the s**t he had put me through before I forgave him, something that I am regretting right now. “Carly babe, will you do the honour of marrying me?”
I looked at him shocked. I wasn’t. I never wanted to marry him. I wanted Jonathan and Kyler, but I knew he wouldn’t allow it and I knew I could never turn back time. “Yes.”
He sighed with relief and smiled. He slipped the ring in my finger, it felt so heavy with all the lies and deceit in front of my family and friends. They all clapped and he pulled himself up pressing his lips on mine and kissing me hungrily. He pulled away and turned to everyone. “There is champagne and food everyone enjoy.”
He pulled me close, whispering. “Good girl. You’ll be rewarded later.” he said, kissing my cheek.
I fake smiled feeling the bile rise in the back of my throat. Everyone came up to us congratulating us. I just stood smiling as Ethan thanked them. As the night grew Ethan circled the room chatting and laughing with my family and friends even his, well the one who turned up anyway. I was surprised that Allijah wasn’t here, but I guess he was still touring. Maybe he’ll be at the wedding. I slothed into the kitchen to take a breather not expecting anyone to come in. Star slipped in unnoticed and looked at me as if to say you’ve got a heap of s**t to explain.
She spoke in hushed times so no one would hear us. “What the hell is going on Carly? First, he makes you live here, now this bullshit. What the hell is going on?”
My bottom lip wobbles. She pulls me into a hug. “Please don’t cry, Carly. Just tell me what’s going on.”
“It was his idea not mine.”
“Well, that much is obvious.”
“Im pregnant Star.”
She gasps. “Oh my god. Can’t you?”
I shake my head and tears slip from my eyes. She quickly wiped them away.
“He won’t let me. No one knows, so please don’t say anything.”
“I won’t, I promise.” She looks at me. “Why did you accept his proposal Carly? You clearly don’t want to be with him, let alone marry him.”
“I have no choice.”
“Of course you do you can tell him to f**k off.”
“I can’t he blackmailed me, Star. If I don’t marry him he’ll expose my Triad to everyone and I can’t hurt Ky and Jonathan anymore than I already have.”
“f**k him and f**k them we’re not in the stone ages Carly, no own gives a s**t about your s****l preferences but I know one thing you’ll never be truly happy if you marry him. He will never satisfy you the way they did. Just think about it.”
“I will.”
“Whatever you decide I’m here Carly, even if it means helping you to run away from the farce of a marriage.”
I smile. “Thank you and I’ll take it into consideration.” Even though I knew I would never get out of this no matter what.
