“Excuse me, sister!” the little girl called out to them a couple of times in her soft voice. One of the girl glanced back as she felt like someone was running behind them. “Hey look!” she said as she stopped in her tracks. She even made her friend to stop and glance back at the girl running behind them. They were confused to see the little girl following them and wondered why was she running.
The baby girl was running towards them taking her tiny steps until she reached to them.
“Baby wait! Stop!” her mother called her to come back but the little girl ignored her mother. Her mother didn't want her daughter to give them back the purse. But she insisted on giving them even though she tried her best to stop her.
“You dropped this purse,” the girl said panting as she stood in her place breathing heavily before them.
One of the girls recognised her purse and took it from those tiny hands which were kindly giving the purse back with a warm smile.
“oh my God! This was my bag, how did it even fall?” one of the girl gasped as she quickly opened to look in the stuff of her purse. Everything was in it the same as it was before making her sigh in relief.
“Thank you cutie, God bless you,” the girl said patting the little head gently. She was happy to get her purse back which made her take out a chocolate bar from her bag and give it to the little girl.
“Take this, you did great by giving it back to me. This purse is made by my mother and I don't want to lose it. Thanks again,” she meant it.
“keep up with this good manners dear. Always return if you find something that is not yours!” the another girl said with a wink to her.
Saying the child thank you and taking the purse back they turned around to continue their walk bidding her goodbye.
The little girl thanked them with cute giggles, excited to see a big chocolate bar in her small hands. It was a first gift on her birthday. Though not a birthday gift but she was happy that she at least got a chocolate bar on her birthday.
She turned back to go to her mother but as soon as she turned around, a young lady came towards her from nowhere and stood before her.
She was a tall, young and beautiful lady, wearing an expensive black suit with the top two buttons of her shirt open. Revealing her beautiful collarbones and a little cleavage.
But at the same time, something was weird with that lady. She has a basket in her hands which was empty. A young lady who looks expensively rich from top to bottom was walking into the park wearing a suit and holding an empty basket was a little bit weird to see.
The little girl looked down and continued to walk away from that lady. She doesn't know her and she remembers what her mother always tell her. “don't talk with strangers who comes to talk to you. They are bad humans and they will kidnap you to sell you far away from this place,” she is always scared by thinking what such people would do by selling small kids to far places.
“Oh, I see what you did just now,” the lady spoke up as she was surprised while the girl was clueless. She continued to walk ahead ignoring her.
“don't be scared of me, I'm here to help you and your mother,” the lady said making the little girl stop in her place and look back at the tall lady with furtowed look.
“What do you mean by that?” the kid asked her.
“I have seen you both going through your problems. So, I'm here standing and offering you with some help of me.” the lady explained.
“You're a good girl. Nice to meet you,” the young lady added as she applauded the little girl while stepping closer to her. She giggled revealing her beautiful white teeth and caressing the cheeks of the little girl.
“You've dark long hair, a wide forehead, a beautiful smile with a pair of twinkling green eyes. You have a very auspicious face, my child,” she kept praising and adoring the little girl standing before her.
“Sorry but, who are you?” the girl asked all confused because she has never seen her before. Never known her before so that she will even know what they are going through.
But she wasn't even a kid to be scared of someone that easily. She was brave and when she knows her mother was here too, she wanted to see what a stranger will do to her. She knows her mother will protect her at any cost.
“Fairy,” she whispered a bit loudly and ended with giggles.
The mother was sitting on the bench with her forehead resting on her hands. She was upset and thinking about how to earn money to give her daughter a gift on her fifth birthday.
Out of blue, she heard someone laugh and her daughter's voice talking with someone. The mother raised her head and peeked around to find out with whom her daughter was talking.
There, her daughter was standing at the same place where she gave back the purse to those girls. She was talking with a young lady who was formally dressed, holding an empty basket in her hands.
Watching her daughter talk to a stranger, the mother hurried to know who the lady is and what was she doing with her daughter. She grumbled all her way about how she has always warned her daughter to not speak with strangers and yet she was standing brave and talking to a tall lady.
“This girl! I have said to her many times to not talk with any stranger, what is she doing with that lady?” mother mumbled to herself and stepped quickly towards her daughter.
“Isn't it your birthday today?” the young lady asked in surprise. “Can I know your birth year or time when you were born?” she inquired in curiosity.
“Braelyn! Why are you talking to strangers? Let's go home now,” the mother grumbled while walking toward them furiously.
Little girl, Braelyn, she flinched at her mother's scary voice. She was definitely getting a good lecture after going home for talking to a stranger.
“So, your name is Braelyn?” the lady winked at her. “nice name,” she added.
The tall lady didn't cared with what her mother was thinking and what she would say. She ignored her and only focused on Braelyn standing before her.
“I'm sorry Ms, but we don't know you so I don't prefer my daughter talking to strangers,” the mother said.
“What a poor woman,” the young lady said in her mind glancing at the mother from head to toe. “Why is she born again to such a poor family like this!” she sighed.
“Braelyn, is this woman your elder sister by any chance? she is so beautiful,” the lady asked with a smile.
The mother cleared her throat. She is the mother which means she must look aging but the unknown woman thinks of her as her elder sister and she liked the compliment.
Tucking the hair strand behind her ear, the mother spoke, “No, I'm her mother.”
The anger was nowhere to be seen anymore which made the lady smirk. She seemed to be knowing that already but played to calm her anger.
“I see,” the lady acted surprised while Braelyn found something weird in her behavior.
“Do you know about Wilson Group?” the lady asked.
“Yeah, it's an entertainment company under which there are many famous pop stars,” mother answered rolling her eyes. “What's with that?”
The lady pulled out a card from her pocket and extended her hands to give it to the mother. “I'm one of those staff and is looking for beautiful children interested in being an artist. If you are interested-”
“No.” The mother quickly pulled back her daughter standing closer to the lady. “Do you think that I don't know about the new scam in the city? I would never let my daughter get trapped in some fake scammers like you.”
“It's not fake. Don't overreact. The girl is scared,” the lady said.
“That's why we are going home. Don't dare you to follow us or ever wander around my daughter.”
Braelyn was about to get dragged out of the park with her mother but the lady interrupted them.
“It's not your fault to have a mother like her, Braelyn. Having a hard life early on means that you are cleared for good fortune ahead in your life,” the young lady continued explaining to the little girl with a chuckle.
“How dare this woman speak like this sick to me?” the mother spat as she clenched her hands into fists and turned around to look at the lady.
“You're washing away all of your bad luck, little girl," the lady said making the little girl's mother stopped in her place.
“What? Bad luck?" The mother asked with a disturbed face. “How can you talk such rubbish just to fake your scam to a little kid? Looking at your attire you don't even need to do such things then why are you doing this?", the mother yelled at the young lady.
“Are you making predictions by just looking at me?”
“You clearly look rich and from well family background,” mother said.
“What if I turned out to be the CEO of Wilson Group then?” the lady asked.
Mother laughed. She was thinking about whose face did she see in the morning to meet a scam woman like her and ruin her daughter's birthday.
“Look around you,” the lady said.
There were many men standing at a distance from them, only looking at them. They looked like guards in black clothes.
“What is this?”
“That I'm the CEO and they are my guards.”
“Come on,” mother laughed more. “Can you please stop your jokes? We ain't coming in your talks.”
“Mom,” Braelyn looked up at her mother. “We shouldn't talk in such a way with strangers, right?”
“Of course my baby girl. But there are some humans who need to be taught lessons. Not everyone is innocent.”
“Your mother is right, not all humans are innocent,” she controlled her laugh.
The mother clenched her jaw and glared at the lady claiming to be the CEO. “If you are a CEO, can I know why a CEO is walking herself into a public park and looking for kids with a strange basket in her hands?”
The lady finally realised that she has a basket in her hands. “Oh, this, I thought I was carrying my handbag.”
She glared at one of the guards behind and he came running toward her. “Yes, Mam?”
“Were you blind? why didn't you tell me that I was carrying this basket in my hands all the way?” she thundered over him just like some cold boss.
“I'm sorry mam, we tried to tell you but you were in a hurry,” he nervously looked down.
“Fine, take this basket and wait for me near the car. I'll be there in a few minutes,” the lady said and the guard followed her instructions.
“And you,” the lady looked at the mother. “It's enough playing innocent. I guess you remember him, didn't you steal his wallet yesterday? How about paying back the thousands of dollars back right now?”
Mother gasped. She remembers she stole a wallet and kept it back in the place by taking all the money. She paid all the bills and tuition fees for her daughter's school. She didn't know it was her daughter's birthday the next day and spent almost everything.
“Mom? you stole again?” Braelyn sounded disappointed by her mother. She stepped away from her mother, she broke her promise.
“Now she will pay it back by letting me hire you as a child model in my company,” the lady stood beside Braelyn.
The mother quickly kneeled to her daughter's level, “Baby listen, i- I'm sorry I will pay her everything by tomorrow. you wait for me at home tomorrow okay? I'll earn lots of money and buy you the best birthday present for your fifth birthday, okay?” the mother asked.
“Mom, you said you won't break your promise, why did you do it?” Braelyn's eyes twinkled with the tears stopping by the edge of her eyes. “You are not bad, right?”
“No no, no, don't cry, please,” she wiped away her tears. “Mom was really in a need my baby, please forgive her. I promise to be a good mother.”
Braelyn smiled softly and looked into her mother's eyes. All she has is her mother in this world and the little girl is well aware of this.
“Mom,” even if she wants to stay upset with her, she can't. “I don't want anything as a present that is bought with money.”
“Then Braelyn, is there any gift which isn't bought by money?” The lady asked.
“Yes,” Braelyn answered. “There should be many things.”
“Just tell me what you want,” mother asked.
“Your promise,” Braelyn answered. “A promise which you will never break.”
“My goodness! This little one is wiser than I thought she would be. You're too young to worry about things like that baby girl,” the young lady cherished the little girl with teary eyes.
Suddenly the mother realised how badly she was behaving before her daughter who is just five years old. At the age where she must teach good things, she was unintentionally teaching her daughter about promises to be broken.
She was taking away her innocence and trust from the people around her. Every other day she is caught by cops. What if one day they come to home?
And if she continues to grow in such an atmosphere, it won't take time for Braelyn to accept bad habits and become a bad human like her.
“Braelyn,” she wiped her tears before cupping her daughter's face. “This time your mother is really ashamed of what she did, can you forgive me?"
“Who else do I have in this world, mom? How can I stay upset with you?" a tear rolled down from Braelyn's eyes.
