Chapter 65: Rushing Back To You

2145 Words
“Sir Vin!” The voice from the walkie-talkie Vin was holding scared the s**t out of me. He looked back at me as if he saw me flinch without having to look at me. Meanwhile, all I felt was fear as I waited for what the person from the other line was about to say. Vin sighed before responding to the other person. “What is it?” “There’s a strange person lurking near the parking lot.” “They might be planning to ambush Sir Gray. Follow their trails and make sure you don’t miss anything.” My eyes widened as I stood up, worried. “What do you mean they might ambush Alvarez?” “Sha, sit still. They won’t be able to get him, trust me,” Vin assured me as he placed the walkie-talkie down. I am well aware that Alvarez would not let such lowlifes get the better of him. That man would rather die than lose to anyone. Except for me, of course. He had already accepted the fact that he can’t always win against me. Anyway, I know I should not worry about Alvarez. But the thing is, we have no idea if Zenon Leviste has some sort of scheme in store for us, and that’s what I’m worried about. There’s no way for us to predict how they’re planning to attack! We can’t prepare any precautions if we have no idea where the arrow will be coming from. I mean it in a metaphorical way, but hopefully, there won’t be any real arrows. Weakly, I pulled the hem of Vin’s shirt a few times. “Please make sure everything goes well…” I muttered. He nodded and took his phone out. It seemed like he was trying to contact several people and I saw Vienna’s name! Since when did the two of them get close? The last time I remember, they didn’t even know about each other’s existence. But I have no time to worry about other people’s relationships because mine might crumble if something bad happens. I just hope Alvarez is fine right now… “Vin, can you track Alvarez’s location?” I asked as I stared at my phone, hoping I would get a message from my husband confirming he is alive. “Yes, I do. He’s on a plane right now, and he’s on the way here,” he replied as he flashed an assuring smile. “Stop worrying about him, Sha. Trust him.” “I do trust that he will come back here safe and sound. But I am afraid of Zenon—” “Do not fear such a cowardly asshole,” he cut me off as he threw his phone on the bed. A sigh escaped from my lips as I lay down on the bed. “But he’s literally out there to get me. How can I not be afraid of him?” “To be honest, I’m not sure how to comfort you without alcohol anymore…” he trailed off as he sat on the edge of the bed, just enough for him to feel a little more comfortable in the bedroom. “Still, I’ll keep on assuring you that you both will remain safe.” I pursed my lips as I looked up at the ceiling, my consciousness immediately drifting across dimensions of thoughts that I had conjured within my head. Vin still seemed to be saying something, but I could no longer hear his voice properly. Perhaps there is still something I haven’t learned about Alvarez. Well, Vin was never one to trust a person’s ability to survive as much as he trusted Alvarez. Not even me. He knows if it was me in my husband’s current disposition, I would drop dead immediately. I had always known that he trusted Alvarez in so many aspects, just not in terms of caring for my feelings. But to trust Alvarez enough to follow his orders…is something I can’t bring myself to believe. Maybe, just maybe, I didn’t know about Alvarez’s combat skills. He goes to the gym and does boxing, but I don’t know about actual fights. Does he…know how to use a gun, as well? “Vin,” I called as I looked out the window. “Hmm?” “Why do you trust Alvarez so much?” I asked out of curiosity. It was also a good way to remain distracted. He shook his head, grinning. “There’s not much to it, really.” “That doesn’t answer my question at all.” “I know, but I have nothing to say.” I shook my head and sat upright. “I want to know.” “Sha, you don’t really have to know about him beating me in a spar,” he replied as he flashed a sarcastic smile. I blinked twice as I stared at him, unable to believe it. “No way.” I don’t know anyone who has ever beaten Vin at anything. At least until now, I haven’t. But finding out that Gray Alvarez, a man whose fighting prowess is unknown, has beaten my ungodly strong bodyguard…somehow didn’t sink in well. “No way,” I repeated, a laugh escaping from my lips. “Sha, what? I know it’s unexpected, but sometimes, s**t like that just happens.” I chuckled. “Is that why you have beef with him?” I teased, grinning like a devil. He shook his head. “f**k, no. Why would I be bitter about something so stupid?” “You sound bitter right now, though.” Vin smiled sarcastically as he shook his head. “Am not.” “Uh-huh.” “Sha…” he warned as he glared at me. “I didn’t expect him to be that strong, that’s all there is to it.” “Then, are you admitting that he’s better than you?” “f**k, no.” I let out another hearty laugh because Vin looks so defeated right now. It’s not something I see every day, so I secretly took a picture of his pouty face! This will make him mad, but it’s not like he’s going to know about it anyway. He probably noticed what I did, but I know he won’t say anything as he knows I’m just doing these things to distract myself from everything that’s going on around me. He just…easily understands things. “I know you took a picture, Sha. f**k off.” He rolled his eyes at me as he continued to check his phone for updates. “You look cute here.” “Shut up,” he replied. “I wonder how your husband deals with you.” “He doesn’t.” He raised a brow as he continued to scroll through his phone. I was about to continue teasing him about it, but I heard my phone beep. I almost jumped to get my phone, but I composed myself before Vin was watching. Oh, it’s Alvarez. I looked at Vin, asking if I should check the message or not. I need to know if it’s safe or not! “Go ahead,” he told me as he watched me intently. I nodded and checked the message. Oh! He’s just two hours away now! I wonder how that is possible, but I chose not to question it anymore. Right now, I’m just grateful to find out that he’s alive and well. He sent me a photo of himself inside the plane, and that’s how I knew he was okay. Just to be sure, I showed the message to Vin, and he confirmed that it really was Alvarez. I didn’t think I should call him, so I just told him to take care. He immediately responded and told me not to worry. Okay, I guess it’s all good. “You okay now?” Vin asked as he let out a chuckle. “Yeah. What’s funny?” I raised a brow at him, annoyed. He shrugged. “Nothing. It’s just that you look less constipated now.” I shot him a glare. “Is that supposed to be a joke?” He smiled. “No. I was telling the truth.” I rolled my eyes and raised my middle finger at him, making him laugh. Now that I know Alvarez will be fine, I thought I should go to sleep. It would be easier for Vin to protect me if I was not fidgeting around. He’d worry less that way! Of course, I asked him if it would be okay for me to just go to sleep. And with him being relieved that I would be able to fall asleep, he immediately agreed and promised he’d look after me. Alvarez can see my location because of Vin, so I didn’t worry anymore. I’m pretty sure things will be fine as soon as I wake up. I’ll just…trust them all. ————— “Diaz?” “She’s still asleep, Sir.” “Yeah, I can see that. Thanks.” I heard a few footsteps just before I completely opened my eyes. And as soon as I had done that, I saw Alvarez’s face right in front of mine. “Hey, you’re awake. Sorry if we woke you up…” he muttered as he cupped my cheeks. “Hey…” I greeted him with my hoarse voice. “You look tired.” The dark circles under his eyes were very visible, almost as if he really hadn’t gotten any rest over the past hours. I guess he could use a good rest now that he’s here. I sat upright and gently fixed his hair. Damn, he looks so disheveled right now. It just shows that he really rushed here as soon as he landed. “I’m okay,” Alvarez told me as he rested his head on my neck, nuzzling his face. “Are you sure?” I asked as I played with his hair. “Yes. I guess I just need to get some rest.” And as if on cue, his body weight pressed upon me and I felt us falling onto the bed. I tried to control our weights so that I didn’t get squished beneath him. I sighed and tucked him into bed to make sure that he could rest well. As he drifted to dreamland, I sat beside him and stared at his face. This is probably the first real sleep he’s going to have since leaving. I’ll…just stay here beside him until he wakes up. Since I didn’t want to leave him, I told Vin that I needed him to take over later so I could cook something for Alvarez. I know I should order him around for something like that, but I badly need his help right now. “I’ll stay here with him until he wakes up.” Vin nodded. “I’ll cook after two or three hours. It seems he won’t be awake for at least five or six hours, so I won’t cook immediately.” I smiled. “That’s fine, thanks. Sorry for asking you for this kind of favor. I just can’t do it myself…” “It’s fine, Sha. I’m your personal assistant, anyway.” I smiled at Vin as I closed the door. I went back to my spot beside Alvarez and then turned my phone off. Although it isn’t something I would normally do, I laid down and snuggled with Alvarez. After what I did, Alvarez’s face somehow softened. His hands snaked around my waist, embracing me. I got the impression that this would help him sleep better, so I just let it all be. This is going to be a one-time thing. I’m only doing this because of the sense of responsibility I am currently stuck with, anyway. As his wife on paper. That’s all there is to it. As that thought circulated in my mind for quite some time, I felt myself drifting off to sleep again… ————— I opened my eyes, only to be greeted by an Alvarez that’s still sound asleep. He seems…very comfortable with his body pressed against mine. Damn it, I can’t move. I don’t know how long it has been since we both slept, but the sky is beginning to darken now. Damn. Maybe it’s been quite some time… Alvarez is hugging me quite tightly, so I can’t really move to check the time. But I didn’t want to know anyway. I just wanted to stare at his pretty face as he slept so soundly, as if he couldn’t be bothered by anything. Unknowingly, a smile made its way to my face. And god, I wish I hadn’t flashed such an adoring smile. Because that was definitely the first thing Alvarez saw when he opened his eyes.
