Chapter 46: A Commotion Outside and Inside

2178 Words
The Alvarez power encompasses more than just a city. It is, and will always be beyond that. Seeing it feels like looking at the far horizon, far too out of my reach. It’s there, but I’ll never be able to get my hands on it. Yet an Alvarez is right here in my arms, engulfed in my own warmth. Gray Alvarez, the man that’s at the top of every hierarchy present to this date, is peacefully sleeping in my embrace. He was passed out drunk after finishing every bottle of alcohol he could get his hands on. It’s the weekend, no work. I believe he simply desired to forget his responsibilities, even if it was nothing more than an ephemeral escape. I drank with him with the mere intention of keeping him company while he silently looked down at the city—his eyes reflecting the lights, making them look as though they were glistening. It didn’t look empty at the time. We ended up doing it after a long stretch of silence between us. And that’s how I felt every ounce of frustration he’s accumulated over time. It lasted for quite some time until Alvarez noticed I couldn’t take it anymore, and just went to sleep. All I remember was him cleaning me up, and then I woke up with him being this close to me. Neither of us had clothes on, but I didn’t mind anymore. The sun has risen and he’ll be opening his eyes soon, with me as the first thing he lays his eyes on. Somehow, it felt enchanting to me. A part of me wished this was real, but as soon as he opened his eyes to look at me, every yearning I had for the past hour had blasted off into nothingness. “Good morning,” he greeted, his voice as deep as it could be, as he slowly moved and sat on the left side of the bed, where he was supposed to sleep. “Hmm,” I hummed in response as I remained on the bed, the blanket still covering the entirety of my bed. “There’s no breakfast yet.” “It’s fine. I’ll go cook.” “Aren’t you tired?” He let out a sarcastic chuckle. “I always am.” I sat upright and leaned on the bed as I stared at his bare back. There are fresh scars from last night when I dug my nails into his back. Well, it was his fault, anyway. “I would have been able to cook if you were a little more forgiving last night,” I teased, chuckling a little. “Oh, please…” Another chuckle followed as he trailed off. “You were practically begging. Stop lying to yourself.” “Stop imagining shit.” “Believe what you want to believe, Diaz, but my ears would never betray me,” he replied as he tapped on his right ear. “You were whispering the lewdest s**t on this ear.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Sure. Whatever.” He chuckled and got up from the bed, his hands quickly reaching out for his boxer shorts. Damn, I was lucky I got a good look at his entirety before he wore them. “You complain about being too tired, but you look like you still want to go,” he teased as he threw a shirt on my face. “I don’t!” He shrugged and wore his slippers. “I’m just saying you look like that,” he replied before walking out of the bedroom. I heaved a sigh when he finally left the room. Slowly, I let my body sink onto the sheets as his scent invaded my nostrils. God, he smells so good. This whole room exuded his manly scent. It’s intoxicating… After some time of brooding over it, I found myself walking out of the room while wearing his shirt. I didn’t want to go through the trouble of finding any of my clothes when his whole shirt can cover my body up to half of my thighs. “Oh, Trouble, why did you have to wear my shirt?” he asked, groaning, as soon as he saw me walking out of the bedroom. I raised a brow at him. “Got a problem?” “Yes!” he exclaimed as he looked at me from my head down to my feet. “I’ll get a boner by just looking at you, you know.” “That’s your problem, not mine.” He rolled his eyes and shook his head as if trying to shake his dirty thoughts away. “Why did you have to be so sexy, anyway?” “Oh, please. You’d get those thoughts if any woman wore your clothes. Don’t even deny it.” “First of all, you’re the only one who’s ever had the chance to wear my clothes. And as if I would let anyone else do…” he trailed off and glanced at me, his eyes traveling across my body as if he was scanning it. “Second, I doubt it.” “I’d take that as a compliment.” “It is.” The aroma of the breakfast he was making for us made my stomach grumble, and I couldn’t help but approach him to get a better look. Oh boy, I’m getting really hungry just looking at it. Alvarez glanced at me while I peeked at the food, and then at his face. He hasn’t been shaving for quite some time now. Just look at that stubble of his! He looks attractive like that, especially with his hair still messed up because he’s forgotten to comb his hair again. He raised a brow when he noticed I’d been looking too much, and then smirked at me. This i***t is getting the wrong idea again just because I ogled at him a little. “What?” “I know you’re in love with me,” he remarked, sighing heavily as if he was trying to reject me. I grimaced at him and then pinched his arm. He leaped away from me, rubbing his arm while trying to turn the stove off. But he was trying to get away from me, so I did it while laughing at him instead. “That hurt!” “I thought that would wake you up,” I replied, shrugging my shoulders to tease him. “Honestly…” He scratched the back of his nape while serving the food. “It did.” I let out a giggle while helping him. “By the way, I think you should shave. You look dumb.” Don’t shave yet. You look good like that. “Come on, it doesn’t look that bad. Does it?” he asked as he sat on his usual seat at the dinner table, waiting for me. “Guess.” I shrugged again while I shot him a sinister smile. “Damn you.” It was a silent, yet hearty breakfast with him. As much as possible, we avoid bickering in front of the dinner table. That’s why I thought it’d be peaceful after that meal. I was wrong. Alvarez received a call from one of the guards, saying one of them got shot in the basement. We didn’t hear anything from up here, but it seemed like there really was a commotion from below. He put his phone on loudspeaker while the call was ongoing. The whole conversation was messy and we could barely hear what the man from the other line was saying. It seemed like they were running all over the place, and all we got was that they were chasing someone down. I stiffened at the horror that someone might be trying to sneak inside. Are they really out for my head now? Or Alvarez’s? This is bad… “Diaz,” he called when the person hung up on him. “It’s dangerous outside, so we’ll have to stay here throughout the weekend. Call that bodyguard of yours.” “Don’t tell me you’re planning to go out on your own?” He shook his head. “No, I can’t leave you here on your own.” Oh, that felt a little more reassuring. I could feel how on edge Alvarez was as he led me to the bedroom. He turned the television on to help me feel distracted from the news we received, and made sure the blinds were closed. As far as I know, they are bulletproof, so I was able to feel a little less tense. While he was checking several things, I proceeded to call Vin over the phone. He doesn’t come to guard me during weekends unless I go out, so it is likely that he has no idea what was going on outside. “Hey, Sha,” he greeted as soon as he picked up. “Oh, thank god. Where are you? Can you come to our penthouse? It’s an emergency…” I told him, my hands still trembling from the shock. I’m surprised I was able to speak so clearly despite the panic I was feeling. “I’m already here. Give me fifteen… Ah, no. Ten minutes. I’ll handle this.” “What? How did you…” “Simple,” he cut me off, a snicker coming out of his mouth while the sounds of things crashing echoed from his side. “I’m your bodyguard. I will always be.” Vin quickly ended the call after saying that. And at last, I was able to heave a sigh of relief. I feel a lot more comfortable knowing he’s out there, tracking whoever began the commotion. Shortly after that, Alvarez came back with a Macbook and a few papers in his hand. Does he still have work to do? Didn’t he say he’d take a break from anything work-related for the entire weekend? “What’s that for?” I asked as I made more space for him on the bed. He looked at his laptop, and then at me. “Work. I forgot about certain things.” “I thought you were just going to rest?” “I will. After I’m done with this, that is.” I sighed and just let him work on whatever it was he needed to do while I watched movies on the television. Sometimes, I would glance at him while the movie progressed to check if he was still fine. After the first animated movie, I already began to feel bored. I had received a call from Vin, saying I should tell Alvarez that he was going to take the man he caught to the warehouse. There would be an interrogation, no doubt about that. Alvarez sighed. “Tell him to relay the information to me as soon as he’s done.” “Noted.” After I called Vin, I glanced at Alvarez and saw him rubbing his eyes. The i***t forgot his glasses again! I sighed and chose a random movie, then got off the bed to get them. “Where are you going?” “I’ll go get something from the library,” I replied after wearing my slippers. “Alright.” To be honest, I was afraid to even walk out of the bedroom on my own, but Alvarez had already made sure to lock everything that needed to be locked. Fortunately, my fingerprint was already scanned on the smart lock. It has been quite some time since the last time I entered this place, and oh boy, it looks so messy. There were plenty of papers scattered on the floor, some were crumpled and some were not. Several books were just on top of the shelves and the couch. Alvarez always has organized charts and schedules, but when it comes to his things, he’s terrible at keeping them organized. I’m not sure I’d be able to clean this up because I might mess things up if I did… Anyway, I found his glasses on his desk, and when I came back, I found him staring at the television with furrowed brows, as if he was stuck in a reverie. And when I looked at the TV screen… Oh, damn. “Hey,” I greeted him as I handed his glasses to him, smirking. “Hi.” He tried to cover his bulge with his laptop, but I had already seen it. “Were you imagining something?” I asked as I removed his MacBook and placed it on a table nearby. Alvarez heaved a deep sigh as he watched me climb onto his lap. Sure, I was already tired last night, but a few rounds weren’t enough to quench the thirst both of us had been feeling. “I have things to do,” Alvarez told me, gulping, as he tried to look away from me. I smiled as I cupped his cheeks, smiling. “Yeah, me.” He groaned and buried his face in my chest. “Damn you…”
