🌑 BENEATH HIS SHADOW
---
The training room was quiet. Too quiet.
Lydia’s chest was still pulsing from the last partial shift, her silver veins faintly glowing under her skin. Every breath she took felt like it could set her nerves on fire.
The Alpha stood close. Too close. His gold-and-silver eyes were fixed on her, watching her every twitch, every hesitation. The air between them was heavy, charged, magnetic — impossible to ignore.
“Your pulse,” he murmured, voice low, resonating in her chest. “It’s still elevated.”
“I’m fine,” she whispered, though her voice betrayed her.
He didn’t move. He didn’t need to. His presence alone was enough to make her pulse pound faster. Every instinct in her screamed that being near him was dangerous — and intoxicating.
“You’re lying,” he said softly. Then, almost imperceptibly, he stepped closer, the space between them shrinking until she could feel the warmth radiating off his body.
She shivered, and he noticed.
“That’s not just fear,” he said, his lips close to her ear. “I can feel it. Desire. Confusion. Strength. Weakness. All at once.”
Her breath hitched. She could feel the pull between them, like gravity. Like fire. Like… something she couldn’t name but couldn’t resist.
“I… I don’t know what to do,” she whispered.
“Then follow me,” he said, voice husky. And for a moment, she almost did. Almost let herself lean into him.
He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face. His fingers lingered, and her skin tingled where they touched. She wanted to move closer. She wanted to feel more. But instinct screamed at her: control. Danger. Him.
“You are irresistible,” he murmured, just barely above a whisper. “And dangerous. And I don’t care.”
Her heart thudded in her chest. “You shouldn’t… you can’t…”
“I can,” he said simply, voice firm but low, vibrating through the air between them. “Because you are not like anyone else. And I… am not like anyone else around you.”
The intensity of his gaze pinned her in place. She could feel the strength in him — Alpha strength — tempered by something else. Something magnetic, possessive, protective.
She stepped closer despite herself. Her hands trembled. Her silver veins pulsed brighter. She could feel him, every heartbeat, every breath. She wanted to close the distance completely, but fear — fear of her own intensity — held her back.
He leaned in, and she could feel his warmth brush against hers. Just a fraction of an inch apart. Enough to make her shiver. Enough to make her breath quicken.
“I’ve waited for this,” he whispered, voice thick with something she couldn’t name. “To see you… like this. To see what you do when you realize no one else can match you. No one can touch you.”
Her pulse thundered. “And what if I can’t control it?”
“You won’t,” he said, dangerously close now. “Not entirely. Not when I’m near. Not when your power… responds to me.”
The words sent a jolt through her. Her body reacted in ways she didn’t expect. Heat pooled, instincts flared, silver veins burning faintly under skin. She could feel him, every inch of him, without touching. Every nerve was on fire.
He lowered his forehead to hers, their breaths mingling, the tension thick, electric, almost unbearable.
“You are mine to guide,” he said quietly, almost reverently. “But you are not mine to control.”
“And yet,” she whispered back, “I want to be.”
His lips curved, barely, a predator’s smile that sent her heart into chaos. He didn’t move to kiss her. He didn’t need to. The closeness, the energy, the magnetic pull between them was enough to ignite every instinct.
She pressed just slightly closer, feeling his warmth against her. Their breaths mingled. Every second stretched. The room felt alive.
“You are dangerous,” he murmured, brushing a thumb along her jawline. “And I… can’t resist.”
“And I can’t resist you either,” she admitted, voice barely above a whisper, tremulous and raw.
For a heartbeat, the world vanished. Only them. Only the pull. Only the storm between them — magnetic, unstoppable, intoxicating.
The Alpha didn’t push her away. Didn’t pull her closer. He simply stayed there, so close it burned, letting the tension stretch, letting desire build like a tide about to break.
And Lydia realized, with a thrill that frightened and exhilarated her at once, that this was only the beginning.
The storm between them had started.
And neither of them could resist it.
