Chapter5~ Mine

1871 Words
ELLA As her royal highness requested, I began to serve her lunch. Painfully aware of her icy blue eyes dissecting every move I made. My hands trembled despite my best efforts to stay composed. ..................... ADRIAN When I arrived at the auction, the air shifted. Everyone in the room knew it had to be something important because I didn’t show interest in women. And I sure as hell didn’t need a f*****g auction to get one. They were always waiting. Always willing. Desperate. Like the whores they were. But word had reached me that my enemy would be attending. That stirred something dangerous in my chest. Of course, the bastard wasn’t even there. I spotted Luca across the room, and the look I gave him was enough to let him know I’d deal with his misinformation later. That’s when I saw her. One girl. Just one. But she wasn’t like the others. Something about her pulled at me something I didn’t recognize, and didn’t like. Her eyes locked with mine, and in that moment, I saw fire. Not the kind that warned me to stay away… but the kind I wanted to extinguish, slowly and completely. Before I even realized what I was doing, the words left my mouth. “Fifty million.” Silence followed. Stunned, hollow silence. Everyone turned to stare. But no one dared to challenge me. Good. I left Luca to take her to the mansion for training and hadn’t seen her since. She wasn’t meant to be a toy. She was meant to be the cure. My goal was simple, to break her. Completely. Emotionally. Physically. Mentally. The pain running through her veins would be my fuel. The blood she bled would keep me sane. The smoking hadn’t been working. Not for a while now. She was going to replace it. I needed her fear. Her hate. Her tears. I didn’t know why but I just did. Call it obsession. Call it madness. Didn’t matter. I leaned back in my chair and stared at the dossier on the screen. Her life was pathetic. Useless even. But her picture always stirred something in me. Curiosity, maybe. Or maybe it was just her beauty. A delicate face paired with eyes that dared me to ruin her. I closed the laptop, grabbed my keys, and made my way to the garage. The scent of tobacco hung in the air, warm and familiar, laced with power and danger like the calm before a storm. I pulled out a cigarette, lit it with a flick of my silver case, and let the burn settle into my lungs. The SUV roared to life beneath me, then I stepped on the gas, speeding back home. Home. I hadn't used that word in so long. Soon, I pulled into the old estate the mansion we once called home. After my father’s death, we scattered, but the place still stood tall, guarded by steel gates and men who knew better than to question me. The maids slowly bowed as I came into view as my men posted in all corners nodded. I intended on heading to my room but stopped in my tracks when I heard my mother’s voice and my blood boiled. What the f**k was she doing here? I walked in right before she put her hands on Ella. Anger seethed through me as I glared at her. How dare she try to touch what’s mine? one got to hurt her but me. Ella stood frozen, her fragile frame stiff like stone, and it disgusted me. Weakness clung to her like perfume, but I knew better. There was fire buried deep inside her. I’d seen it. Her darkness mirrored mine. I just had to drag it out and see if it burned or broke her. “What’s going on here?” I growled, my deep voice low and lethal. “I was just testing the new girl’s capabilities,” Mama replied quickly, sugar coating her venom. “She clearly needs more-” “And who gave you that right?” I cut her off feeling my blood boil. When she ran off to change I turned back to everyone in the room, “None of you will lay a finger on her!” I barked, my voice cutting through the silence like a blade. “If she sheds a single tear that I didn’t cause, it’ll be the last thing you do.” “Yes, sir,” came the murmured replies. “You are all dismissed!” I barked the order while walking to the chair. I lit another cigarette and collapsed into my chair, exhaling smoke while my phone lit up. Luca. I answered with a sigh. “News on the latest mole?” “Not yet,” he said, “but I have news on who’s been stealing our cargo these past months.” I rolled my eyes. Of course he did. Luca never shut up but I trusted him. He was my second in command for a reason. “I’ll be going there tonight. To have a little fun,” he said. By fun, he meant torture. But tonight, I needed a different outlet. A better one. “No,” I said. “Leave it. I’ll handle it.” “Okay Boss, let me send you the address,” he replied. Then the line went dead. The idea in my head twisted into something wicked. I smiled. I headed to my pet’s room. I didn't even bother to knock, I Just barged in. She sat up, startled. Big brown eyes stared back at me soft, scared, and beautiful. “Are you always this weak and full of fear?” I asked, closing the door behind me. “No… I wasn’t expecting you,” she whispered, her eyes falling to the floor. I took a step closer, shoving my hands into my pockets. “Who were you expecting?” Her lips parted, and panic danced across her face. “No, that’s not what I meant. I… I just meant that only Nonna usually comes in here,” she said, biting her lip. Fuck. My c**k jerked at the sight of her doing that. Why? Why the hell did she look like an angel who needed protecting? Why did I want to be the one to corrupt her? “How are you adjusting?” I asked, the words slipping out before I could stop them. She blinked, confused. I didn’t blame her. I didn’t ask questions like that. I didn’t give a f**k. “Very well,” she said after a pause, “but… I wanted to ask. Why did you buy me?” My jaw clenched. “To ruin you,” I said with a slow, wicked smile. The way her eyes widened… the little gasp she made… I could’ve taken her right then and there. “R–ruin me?” she whispered. I laughed low in my throat. “What, you thought I was here to make you feel pretty? Play house and s**t?” She looked down again. “I’m sorry. Yes, they told me not to ask questions.” “Then maybe you should remember that,” I said coolly. “I’d hate to have to go downstairs and put a bullet in someone’s head. Mmm?” She trembled but nodded. Good girl. Then I said something I hadn’t planned. “Dress up. Wear dark jeans. We’re going for a ride.” I misplaced a fork just slightly you could barely notice. But the way the air shifted instantly, you'd think I committed an abomination. “What kind of incompetence is this?” blondie hissed, her voice dripping with disdain. “Is this the best you could find, Nonna?” Maria or Nonna I didn't know what to call her at this point, remained silent. We both knew she hadn’t chosen me. We both knew I didn’t belong here either. “Are you deaf and dumb, or just plain stupid?” the blonde woman spat. I stayed silent. There was no right answer, only less dangerous ones. Her anger built like a storm on the horizon. Without warning, she snatched a glass of water from the table and flung it in my face. I gasped, stunned by the freezing shock, and humiliation burned hotter than the sting of the cold. Still, I refused to cry. I would not give her that satisfaction. She then stood, one manicured hand lifting as if to strike me. Maria’s eyes flashed with a silent warning. Don’t move. I shut my eyes waiting for the blow to land. But before the blow could fall, the double doors burst open with a bang. Grey eyes were the first I noticed. The eyes that looked me over at the auction. The light was poor but I would never forget this face. The air shifted again, but this time, it was because he had entered. The room seemed to contract around his presence. Even the blonde woman who was so sharp, and so cruel seemed to shrink beneath the weight of his glare. “What’s going on here?” he growled, his deep voice low and lethal. “I was just testing the new girl’s capabilities,” she replied quickly, sugar coating her venom. “She clearly needs more-” “And who gave you that right?” The man cut her off, his voice cracking like thunder. “How the hell did you even get in here?” “Adrian-” He's Adrian? The Capo? His storm-gray eyes snapped to me. “You,” he said, each word a warning. “Come here.” With a heavily pounding heart and shaky legs, I stepped forward. He looked me over, his stare clinical but intense, like a man inspecting something that belonged to him. “Mixing up utensils is an amateur mistake,” he said, The tone in his voice unreadable. “But it only matters to me… because you are mine. And you will only serve me. Do you understand?” Mine? His? That single word shot through me, uncomfortable… but not in a way that felt wrong. If anything, it stirred something I didn’t want to name. I nodded, unable to speak. Adrian turned to the blonde. “You do not touch what is mine. Not even when I’m dead. I won’t say it again.” Then, without another word, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me from the room. His grip was firm, his pace so fast I had to jog to catch up and when we stepped into the hall, he released me as abruptly as he’d taken hold. “Go and change!” He growled and walked away. It was when I looked down that I realized the b***h made my blouse wet and my bra was on display! I returned to my room after getting lost five times since this house was too damn big! I collapsed onto the bed, letting out a breathless, crazy laugh. What was my life turning into? Before I could think too long or get too comfortable, the door burst open. And the sight in front of me made my heart drop like a stone.
