Chapter 6 ~The monster

ADRIAN “Change… in front of you?” Her eyes widened. I c****d my head to the side, “Well, I don't look like I'm leaving do I?” She gave me a confused look but didn’t ask any further questions. She slowly started undressing and changed in front of me while I watched unapologetically. She was mine, and every inch of her body belonged to me. She would soon know that. We walked downstairs, entered my SUV, and I drove off, taking her on a ride she’d never forget. In her world, a ride meant a drive through the city, maybe something scenic. But in mine, it meant blood. It meant violence. And tonight, I wanted her to witness the monster I truly was. I was going to kill those fuckers while she watched, so she'd never dare entertain the thought of betraying me. After all, I was a monster. I held her hand as we walked through the dimly lit corridor of the underground bar. Heads turned when they saw me. Nods of respect. Flashes of shock. No one had expected me to show up here tonight. The air reeked of whiskey and cigar smoke, a familiar scent, one that belonged to men like me. As we neared the corner booth where Leo sat, my eyes locked onto his. The bastard looked up too late. My gaze had already bored through him like bullets. The tension in the room thickened. Silence screamed louder than words. Everyone knew something was about to go down. “Leo,” I said, my voice low and calm, dangerously calm. Then I turned to Ella and pulled her close. “Sit next to me, baby. I want you to watch what happens when someone betrays me.” I leaned into her ear, speaking so only she could hear. “If you shed even one tear, I’ll kill more than I originally planned. Do you understand?” Her eyes widened in fear but quickly hardened. “Yes, Sir,” she replied, her voice steady. That made me smile. "Leo," I spoke his name, “I heard you've been busy.” Leo was in his mid-forties, with thinning hair and a nervous twitch that looked like he’d just pissed himself. Sweat gathered on his forehead as he stammered, “Boss, I... I don’t know what you’re talking about.” My jaw tightened. I looked past him at the two men standing behind him, his so-called protection. I gave them a second to regret their life choices before I reached for my gun and put two bullets through their skulls. Their bodies dropped to the floor with a satisfying thud. Ella flinched as she screamed. “Oh my God, you killed them!” “Yes,” I said, deadpan. “I didn’t like how they looked at you.” “What? No, they didn’t! Oh my God!” She clamped a hand over her mouth as tears began to fall. “They didn’t?” I c****d my head. “That’s too bad, my eyes must have malfunctioned. Now pull yourself together before I put a bullet in someone else.” I lit a cigarette, the smoke curling into my lungs like silk. For me, a good smoke was better than an orgasm. Leo looked around, his eyes wild, searching for an exit that didn’t exist. “I… I can explain. Times have been tough, and I thought-” “You thought?” I interrupted, my voice ice-cold. “So now you remember.” He shrank under my stare. “You thought you could betray me and walk away?” “No… I just didn’t see any other way out,” he said, his shoulders slumping in defeat. “There are always other ways, Leo. But I guess some people are too stupid to find them. Still… I won’t kill you.” I leaned back, letting the words settle like poison. “I want you to live. I want you to wake up every day knowing I own your life. And if you ever make another move, I will destroy everything you love while you f*****g watch.” “I’m sorry, Capi. I’ll obey. I swear.” “Figlio di puttana,” I spat, disgusted. A soft voice behind me caught my attention. “How could you do that so calmly? Aren’t you afraid of the police?” I turned slowly. “They work for me,” I said, with a smile. “And that… will be the fate of anyone who disobeys me. Even a random stranger.” “What do you mean by that?” she asked again, pushing too far. Anger flared hot in my chest. Why did she ask so many f*****g questions? And why was I actually answering them? When the hell did I become patient? “Portala in macchina,” I said to one of my men, ignoring her entirely as I saw a restricted number flash across my screen. I frowned. Who the f**k was calling me from a line like that? I picked up and stayed silent. “Adrian Moretti. Good to finally reach you. My name is Marco Bianchi.” The name hit me like a slow-burning fuse. My blood boiled. I kept my voice steady, masking the storm behind it. “What the f**k do you want?” “To discuss the terms, of course,” he said like we were old friends talking over espresso. I will kill my mother for this. With gritted teeth, I played along. “I’ll send time and address.” He chuckled. “To a restricted number?” I half-laughed and exhaled smoke into the phone. “Clearly, you have no idea who the f**k I am. Wait for the details. And don’t be late.” I ended the call. Picking up my keys, I texted Luca to meet me after he dropped off Ella. Something didn’t sit right. What deal had been made behind my back?
