THE LAST CLOCKMAKER EPISODE 2: THE MAN WHO REMEMBERED TOMORROW
PROLOGUE — THE MEMORY At exactly 8:17 a.m., a boy in Lagos suddenly screamed. He pointed at an empty road. “The bus is going to crash.” His mother grabbed his hand. “There is no bus.” Three seconds later, a bus turned the corner. The driver lost control. But before it could hit anyone, the boy shouted: “NOW!” The driver somehow stopped. The boy began crying. He had never seen the road before. Yet he remembered the accident perfectly. --- ACT I — SOMETHING IS WRONG Eli hadn't slept since discovering the truth about Subject One through Six. Then his phone received another message. THEY ARE REMEMBERING TOMORROW. A second message followed. AND IT STARTED WITH YOU. Eli immediately went to Mara. But she was gone. Her bakery was unlocked, the lights were on, and a cup of tea was still warm. On the wall, someone had written: SUBJECT 06 IS AWAKE. --- ACT II — THE PHOTOGRAPH Searching Mara's apartment, Eli discovered an old photograph. His grandfather stood beside a mysterious young man. Eli froze. The young man was the same person he had seen outside the clock shop. But something was impossible. The photograph was dated 1979. Eli turned it over. Written on the back were five words: “Eli knows him already.” Suddenly, Eli remembered something. A childhood birthday. A man standing beside his grandfather. A silver pocket watch. And the man saying: “I'll see you tomorrow.” But Eli had never seen him before. Or had he? --- ACT III — SUBJECT SIX Eli followed a trail of golden symbols beneath the city. It led to an abandoned laboratory. Inside were six glass chambers. Five were empty. The sixth contained a sleeping man. A screen displayed: SUBJECT 06 — MEMORY RECONSTRUCTION: 97% Eli stepped closer. The man's eyes opened. He looked directly at Eli. Then he whispered: “You're late.” Eli stepped back. “Who are you?” The man smiled. “The first person your grandfather erased.” --- ACT IV — THE TRUTH Subject Six explained that Chronos wasn't originally designed to control time. It was designed to store memories from timelines that no longer existed. Every time Silas changed history, those memories disappeared from everyone except the subjects. But something had gone wrong. Those memories were now leaking into ordinary people. That was why people across Lagos were remembering events that hadn't happened. Eli asked: “Who is causing it?” Subject Six looked frightened. “Not Silas.” A sound came from the corridor. Tick. Tick. Tick. The silver pocket watch appeared in the darkness. Subject Six whispered: “He's here.” --- ACT V — THE MAN FROM 1979 The mysterious man stepped into the light. Eli recognized him. The stranger from the photograph. The stranger from his childhood memory. The man smiled. “Hello, Eli.” Eli demanded to know who he was. The man answered: “My name is Adrian.” Then he revealed something impossible. He wasn't from another timeline. He was from the future of the original timeline. And according to him, Eli had already met him— twenty-seven years before Eli was born. Eli's mind filled with memories that couldn't belong to him. His grandfather. Chronos. The First Clock. And himself. Standing beside Adrian. --- EPILOGUE — THE IMPOSSIBLE MEMORY Adrian handed Eli a photograph. It showed Eli standing beside his grandfather, Mara, Silas... and Adrian. But there was something worse. Written beneath the photograph: SUBJECT 07 — DAY ZERO Eli looked at the date. Tomorrow. His phone suddenly rang. It was Mara. Eli answered. Her voice was trembling. “Eli... whatever you do, don't trust Adrian.” The call ended. Eli slowly turned around. Adrian was gone. Subject Six was gone. And every clock in the laboratory had changed from 11:59 to: 12:00. Then the machine spoke: “DAY ZERO HAS BEGUN.” TO BE CONTINUED…
