Wound

Mika. He was gone, and I had no power to save him. I had no other choice but to let him be eaten by fire. There was no other option but to run and live. "Yuu!! Run!" Mika screamed as flames engulfed him whole. Tears had flown down my cheeks, and pain pounded at my chest. My eyes shot open as I sat up with a heavy breath. I was in my bedroom, and the sun's rays were attacking my room. It was morning. I let out a sigh. It was that dream again. For the past ten years, I've been having dreams of the day I lost Mika. The kidnapping... Ferid... the flames. I was six years old back then, and it's been such a long time. Still, I could never forget. Mika... I gazed at my now clenched fist. I promised myself I would avenge you. If you were here, you would probably scold me for thinking of something so stupid... but hey, I've also got a resolve that you could be proud of too, Mika. Besides revenge, I also promised I would protect people from experiencing the same fate as I did. Especially children who know nothing better. It's a little reckless of me, but I've been training myself to become strong... to be someone who could protect people. I don't want others to experience the pain Mika and I had to go through. I yawned, stretching my arms and getting up from my bed. There was school today, and so I had to get ready. I can't believe I was able to go back to living a normal life... After Mika had pushed me off the building, and I had run away, I bumped into a man named Guren Ichinose. He was a middle-aged man who was some sort of lawyer that had connections with the military. He took me in with him, and I've been living my life again. Guren is barely home, but I don't really mind because I get to live my life at my own pace. The only thing that bothers me is that he tells me he'd ground me if I didn't make any friends. It's kinda stupid though. One, why do I need to make friends? They'll only get in the way if I need to rescue people. And two, that i***t Guren is barely home! He can't tell me I can't go out! Ding Dong The doorbell rang. I put on my uniform and headed straight to the door to open it. To my surprise, it was someone I didn't know. It was a girl with purple hair tied up. She had a sheepish expression on her face, wearing a uniform from my school. The girl was also pretty tiny. She held up a piece of paper that had words written on it. Hello, Hyakuya Yuu-san. My name is Shinoa, and from now on, I will be looking after you courtesy of Mr. Guren Ichinose. "Ha??" My eyes opened real wide. "Look after me? I'm sixteen years old for Pete's sake!" I grabbed my bag and went out of the house, locking and closing the door behind. I crossed my arms while looking at this Shinoa girl, "And I'm sure as hell a kid like you can't look after me." Shinoa blinked and took out a small notepad and pen. A smile came across her face. She then started writing something while mumbling whatever she was writing down, "Hyakuya Yuu-san is as conceited as Guren Ichinose reported. That is probably why he gets into trouble often." "Hey! What are you writing?!" I scowled. Her eyes shifted to me, a smile still on her lips, "My reports. That way, Guren Ichinose will believe I was on duty." I tilted my head in confusion. Reports? Duty? What in the world was this little girl talking about? Bah, whatever. It doesn't concern me. I shook my head violently and walked, "Just don't get close to me, would you? I have stuff I gotta do that doesn't need someone to bother me." Shinoa caught up to me and followed my steps. Her voice sounded like she was entertained by my presence, "Stuff? What exactly does Yuu-san do, hmmm?" She chuckled mischievously, "Is it... that?" "That?" I c****d my brow at her. We were already passing by a few places, and the overpass that signaled that school was near was only a few ways away. "You know..." She paused with a grin, "Playing with yourself?" Warmth came all over my face, and I clenched my fist, "What the hell?! W-why would I do that?!" She placed her hand on her lips and giggled, "That's okay, Yuu-san. You're a growing sixteen-year-old after all. It's perfectly normal~" This girl... I didn't know what Guren had in mind when he sent her to look after me. But I will not let this b-bother me! I am busy! I wanna do my own thing without any setbacks. For Mika... "Che! T-that is so uninteresting!" I marched away to a different path, heading to a small playground around the corner. "Ah? Yuu-san, isn't school this way?" "Doesn't matter." I placed my hands inside my pockets and headed to the playground. And it was a good thing I did too because when we got there, I heard a kid scream. "Help!!" My eyes shifted to where the voice came as I became alert. There was a little boy being taken away by some man. "Hey!!" I shouted at the guy, "What do you think you are doing?!" The man stopped and looked at me, "huh?!" I frowned, irritation was building up in me, "Do you know that the kid has a life, and his family would be hurt if you take him away from them?" "The hell do I care!" He scowled. I gritted my teeth, pissed off by his attitude, "Then, would you care if I..." I rushed towards him and sent my fist at his face. It hit his cheek perfectly, making him let go of the kid and tumbling down, "... do this?!" My chest moved down as I let out a breath, ready to give the guy a beating. "Damn it, this stupid brat." He cursed under his breath. In a split second, he stood up and ran in the direction opposite of me. I followed him with speed, "Come back here!!!" We both ran like cat and mice. Passing by the streets, jumping over fallen trashcans or objects, bumping into people and causing them to wonder what was going on. "You can't get away!!!" I shouted as I picked up the pace. We were back to the main road, and there was another overpass. The man climbed up the stairs as fast as he could, and so did I. At the other end of the overpass was a number of citizens. The man had stopped in the middle of the overpass and looked at me with his fists clenched tight. I stopped my tracks, "There's no use running away. You're all cornered." Sweat formed at his forehead, "Tsk... you little punk." I gave out a grin of triumph, and pointed at him, "Now give up to the police!!" That's right. This is what I have been busy with for the past ten years. People, especially kids, don't deserve to suffer because of people like this man here. I will never let any single person who does these things to get away. I'll never let them have the chance to do it again. Have I become a more matured person now, Mika? "You'll never catch me!!" The man yelled with might, jumping off the overpass. Without a thought, my body moved. I ran to where the man had stood and jumped off the overpass as well. I don't know why I did though. Maybe it was impulse. Maybe it was adrenaline rush. The man had crashed to the ground, unable to move. And me? Well... I followed a similar fate. I stumbled to the ground. My body had hit the cold cement floor, making me feel a huge amount of pain. I grimaced. Damn it... My legs... My arms... Every part of me hurt... and I couldn't move. And the worst part was that the first thing that collided with the ground was my head. It had the most pain. A sharp sting came over it, and I touched my forehead, "Ouch...." "Yuu-san!" I heard Shinoa's voice nearby. I searched around, but as I did, my vision became blurry. Slowly, everything faded into black and all I could see was the obscure darkness.
