Mika's POV
"Mika? Could you explain this part to me?"
I looked at the black haired boy who was sitting on the floor beside me. Yuu and I were inside my room with books and notes scattered on the table and the floor.
It had been weeks since I began tutoring Yuu with his school lessons. He was completely troubled by the fact that he wouldn't be able to give me a good future if he didn't graduate from school. I couldn't help but want to help the guy out. He was my best friend after all.
But...
It's puzzling when he says he wants to work hard for our future. What exactly does he mean by "our" future?
I may have gotten my memories back, but I feel as if Yuu and I are still far apart from each other. We see each other every day, we exchange messages when we go our separate ways, heck, the two of us even kissed one time.
What exactly are we?
Ever since we were little, Yuu was always in my mind. He was my family, my best friend... my everything. And later on, I found out that I had fallen for him. For everything that Yuu is. I love him.
I know he cares for me more than anything. He does. But, am I really just family to him?
These thoughts are killing me.
"Sure, let me take a look." I gestured Yuu to show me the book.
When I saw the text he was reading, my eyes widened brightly. He had been reading one of my medical books from school.
"Yuu-chan..." I looked at him. He simply laughed in an awkward manner, scratching his head.
"Uhm... just thought it would be fun to read through it. I was curious." He grinned.
I chuckled softly, "And? What did you discover?"
"A lot of things!" He grinned even brighter, "Everything sounds so complex as I read through, but it's also amazing how it all makes sense."
"Really?" I smiled, "Tell me more about it."
Yuu began to ramble. I could see the passion in his eyes, talking about medically related facts. It was so obvious that he enjoyed whatever he was reading, and I couldn't help but enjoy the way his lips curved as he spoke. My heart pounded as I watched him. Right then and right there, all I could think of was wanting our lips to meet and feel Yuu's warmth.
I was so caught up by my desires that I had unconsciously leaned in towards him.
"Mika?"
Yuu's voice had stopped me when our faces were only a few inches away from each other. We were so close that our eyes were already at level. I felt my face get hot as I bit my lip. We were so close... I wanted to kiss Yuu so badly that moment. But Yuu... does he even feel the same?
A stream of guilt brushed on me. It felt as if I had been forcing myself on Yuu without thinking about his feelings. How could I have been so selfish?
Then I felt my hands being held. Yuu had both of my palms touch him with our fingers entwined. He chuckled, "Mika, are you getting sleepy?"
I slightly jerked, my cheeks probably turning into a bright scarlet, "N-no! I am not!"
My reaction had made Yuu sneer, and I felt myself drown in embarrassment. Yuu then pulled me towards him, making our foreheads touch and his breath tickling at my skin. Now his green eyes were locked on mine.
"Mika..."
His gentle voice made my heart race. My hand gripped at his tightly, not wanting to let go of him as we were merely a few ways apart.
"I will work hard for our future... I promise I'll build a future for us."
A heavy feeling came on my chest when Yuu had said those words. For a short moment, I felt my breathing turn slow. It had felt so bittersweet. Yuu had just promised me a future together, but I didn't really have a clue as to what we really were.
I slowly let go of Yuu's hand, but before I pulled away, I lifted his bangs and gazed at his forehead. Then and there, all I wanted to do was give him a loving kiss. I wanted to show him that I was proud of what he was doing and that I'm going to be proud of what he can do in the future.
But even if we were this close to one another, it still felt like there was a wall between Yuu and me.
"Good luck on your finals tomorrow, Yuu-chaaaaaa....nnnnn!"
I violently rubbed his forehead, making Yuu yelp and flail his arms at my hand. I couldn't help but laugh at his reaction.
Yuu stood up from our position and stretched his arms, "Ahhhh. Alright, I think it's late now so I gotta head home."
While Yuu was busy fixing his things, all I could do was stare at the ground blankly. A sense of defeat was all over me. We were so close, and yet... I couldn't even do anything more but just tremble in Yuu's hold.
Yuu had left after taking most of his stuff, leaving me in my home. There was a bit of a mess in my room. Books were on the floor here and there, a bowl of biscuits and juice bottles were set on my study table.
I picked up the bowl and bottles, throwing them in the sink to wash. When they were cleaned, I headed back to my room, putting back the books on the shelves. I stopped when a book had caught my eye. It was the medical textbook that Yuu had read a while ago.
Flipping the pages through, I sat down on the floor and read the text written. It had been a while since I had read any books like this. Ever since I had begun working, I had been so caught up in moving around that I hadn't had time to study.
Blood is a special fluid that has four main components: plasma, white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.
My eyes continue to read through the text, hardly ever looking away from what was written. These were things that I already knew, but strange enough, I wanted to read through them again. If there was something I didn't know of, I'd probably be reading them right about now.
It was weird but I felt so excited about reading again.
Strangely enough, I had been so focused on the book, that I hadn't noticed that I fell asleep on the floor. I only realized when I heard birds chirping. The book had been covering my face, so when my eyes finally met with the rays of sunlight streaming through the window, I felt a slight sting.
Ahh... It's strange how early I always wake up even though I don't have anything to do.
I scratched my head and yawned as I sat up on the floor.
Could it be a habit?
When I checked my phone, I saw a couple of messages in my inbox. Most of them were from Yuu, but there was one message from someone I hadn't heard from in a while.
It was from Lacus, a fellow nurse from the hospital I had worked for. Although Yuu was always on my mind, I couldn't help but have my attention be caught by Lacus's message.
Lacus had said that he hadn't seen my soul for a long time and asked how I had been doing. He had apparently missed my company because Rene, another nurse, was boring. It had made me smile a little. It wasn't hard to admit that I had missed being in the hospital.
As I scrolled through his message, one big news had made my heart beat fast. A boy with cancer finally fought his way through it and was going to be discharged today. He was a boy that I had taken care of for a long time back in the hospital. Strength drowned away from my hands, making me drop my hand down.
Today was going to a very memorable day for the boy that had fought so hard for his life, and I want to be there for him. Just like how I did back when he was still struggling.
Biting my lip, I lifted the phone and stared at Yuu's messages. As I swiped my finger up and down on the phone screen, flashbacks and images of the boy from the hospital appeared in my head. Nobody visited him but his grandma and grandpa... no mother... no father... no brother or sister.... not even a best friend.
The same way I had been after the fire...
I don't want him to be alone.
Without a second to spare, I had a change of clothes, grabbed my bag and ran out of the house.
I'm sorry, Yuu-chan. You'll have to wait for later.

Yuu's POV
It was already five minutes before examinations would start. Finally, the day had come where everything I've prepared for this past few weeks will finally pay off. I was more than determined to pass this thing!
My weapons: a pen with the finest tip to attack, an eraser soft enough to avoid stains of war, and a sharpener to strengthen my offense. Hyakuya Yuu is ready to fight this battle.
But there was something missing...
I took out my phone for a brief moment, clicking on to my messages but only to be greeted by disappointment. For the past few minutes, I had been checking my inbox for Mika's message. So far, I had sent him a few messages here and there, but he hasn't replied to a single one.
It made me worry a little.
The bell had abruptly ringed, making me look straight ahead. The teacher was already in front of the test papers on his desk.
"Alright, everyone. The examinations will now start. please settle as I will distribute your exam booklets."
I hid my phone back in my bag, held my pen in place and took a deep breath.
Let's do this, Yuu!
When my booklet came to my desk, I instantly opened it, read the instructions and answered questions. We had several subjects for exams today: Math, English, History, and Science. Because there were so many, the exam took almost the whole morning and afternoon to finish. It hadn't been easy for me, but it wasn't that hard either.
Thanks to all the lesson Mika gave me, things went by more smoothly in my mind. I was able to think well, read things properly and understand what I needed to answer.
Even though I'm such an i***t, I think I could do about almost anything I want to... as long as Mika would be there. Without him, I wouldn't know what I'd want to do or have any reasons to do anything worthwhile at all.
Mika is my life. He really is everything that I am, want, need and love.
When I finally finished everything, I closed my booklet and gazed at it for a moment. I let out a heavy breath and smiled at it.
I've conquered you. Now it's your turn to show me what you got.
Picking up the booklet, I stood up from my seat, took my bag and walked to the teacher to pass the booklet. My teacher looked at me with a smile, "Ah, Yuu-kun! How did your exams go?"
I gave a grin, "It was cake! It's all thanks to the notes you gave me, teacher, and the tutorials Mika did with me."
"Mika, again?" He chuckled.
"Yep. It's all thanks to him that I'm going to pass!" I gave a thumbs up to the teacher as I walked out of the room with a smile.
"Yes, you surely will." He smiled.
"Wait... HIM?"
I took my phone out again as I went out of the school grounds. Mika still hadn't left any replies at all. This made me scratch my head and grunt a little. Placing the phone in my ear, I called Mika up. It took a few rings before Mika had finally accepted my call.
"He-..."
"Mika! Where have you been all day??"
"Yuu-chan... Sorry! Something just came up."
"Ahhh, how cruel. You can forget about me that easily?"
"I'm really s-sorry... didn't mean to."
"Ohhh... don't know if I could forgive you, though."
"Seriously...?"
"Yeah, seriously. I'll only forgive you if you come to have dinner with me right now!"
Mika softly chuckled on the other line, "Stupid. I'd be more than happy to... although I think it's too early for dinner considering it's still four in the afternoon."
"Does it matter?" I whine, "I just want to see you."
"Okay, okay. Don't be a crybaby. Do you want to go to that cafe we had curry together?"
"Absolutely. I'm on my way now!" I cheerfully announced.
"Wait, what?-"
I clicked end on my phone and threw it in my pocket. With a big fat smile on my face, I ran to the cafe with energy and glee. Since it had been near my school, there was no need to ride a taxi or train. After a long day at war (school), I was going to see Mika, and that always had been the best part of each day.
After arriving at the cafe, I sat in a booth by the window, looking at the menu as I waited for Mika. The waiter had given me a glass of water with ice since Mika hadn't arrived until about thirty minutes after. When he entered through the door, I couldn't stop myself from smiling. Here he was, the person I had been waiting for all my life.
"Yuu-chan! Did I make you wait long?" He worried as he sat across me.
"Hell yeah!" I gave him the menu with a grin, "Now pick something, Mika! I'm starving."
He rolled his eyes at me, shaking his head and sneering, "Unbelievable. You... Yuu pig."
I stuck my tongue at him and laughed. After a minute of browsing through the menu, Mika and I ordered. We started talking as we waited for our food.
"So, how did examinations go?" He gave a smug smirk.
I lifted my chin and narrow my eyes at him, "Why is your face talking as if I completely blanked out?"
"Whaaat?" He laughed sarcastically, "I don't know what you're talking about, Yuu-chan. I sincerely want to know how your exams went."
My head slightly jerked, a few goosebumps running through my skin. It had felt like someone I had met a few weeks ago had suddenly risen from the grave! The Nurse from hell!
"I-I have you know! I was able to answer so many questions in the exam."
Mika continued to smile at me the same as he did earlier, "Mmm. Yeah, shading random choices on the test do seem easy to do."
His reaction made me pout. Then I snapped my finger and shook my head, "Don't give me that! I totally understood what I was answering."
Mika closed his eyes as he nodded with a smile.
"If I get high scores, you'll definitely treat me to a year supply of curry!" I sneered.
"Oh? I'd be happy to shove-... I mean, feed you curry, Yuu-chan." He chuckled softly.
I gently slammed my hands on the table, pushing myself back on the seat with my head jerking backward, "W-w-what?! What the hell was that?! Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
Mika's eyes deeply gazed at me as he chuckled at my reactions. He rested his cheek on his palm with his elbow down on the table. My cheeks felt warm as I realized how dreamy Mika's expression had been at that moment.
With a soft smile, Mika said "Fight me? <3"
A surge of electricity ran through my body as if a switch in me was flipped on. It felt so intense that I couldn't determine whether I was still breathing or not. Mika's smile was fixed in place while the world behind us seemed to have disappeared. It was just the two of us left.
It was strange how just a simple smile from Mika had released a thousand fireworks throughout my body. I felt so weak just looking at him like that. My fingers were trembling because of him, but at the same time, I couldn't find myself being able to move at all. With just a small gesture, Mika made all sorts of polar opposite occur simultaneously.
He was that amazing... and I was so lucky enough to realize how I lo-...
"Dinner is served!"
The waiter came to our table with a cheerful voice. On his left and right hand were two plates with our orders in them. Carefully, he placed the plates on our table, putting one for me and the other for Mika. He then gave us our drinks before leaving the two of us.
"Eat up, Yuu-chan!" Mika said.
I scratched my hair and laughed awkwardly for a while. I had been so lost in my thoughts that I had totally forgotten about being hungry. Mmm... well, I was still hungry for Mika at l-least.
I violently shook my head, slapping my cheeks.
OKAY! Didn't expect that thought. Get your head straight, Yuu!
"What the hell is going on with you?" Mika laughed, holding a spoon with curry on it. I felt embarrassment wash over me as I realized that I had been acting weirdly in front of Mika.
"N-nothing."
"Aren't you going to eat yet?" Mika tilted his head with a grin, "Do you want me to feed you?"
"No!" I raised my palms up in front of him, "I don't want you to shove weird things in my mouth!"
His head raised a little but his eyes kept looking at me with mischief, "Really now? Are you sure you don't want me to do that?"
"Definitely!!" I shook my head fast.
He snickered, "We'll see about that."
I started to eat up my own food, trying ever so hard to get rid of my embarrassment. A few spoons later, my tension finally calmed down, and I was feeling more confident to keep our conversations going again.
"Say, Mika, where were you earlier?" I looked at him as I took in a spoonful of curry.
"Me?" Mika's eyes blinked, "Oh... Just paid a visit to the hospital. One of my patients got discharged today so I wanted to see him off."
My eyes enlarged when I had seen Mika staring blankly with a smile so soft as he spoke. A heavy feeling came across my chest, and I could feel a weird tremble at my fingertips. I couldn't find myself to smile at the situation.
When I was discharged from the hospital, he didn't see me off or even bothered to say goodbye. But now that someone else was going out, he ignored all my messages just to pay him a visit and see him off.
That's weird...
Each beat that my heart made suddenly became painful and my breathing had slowed down.
"Yuu-chan, there's also something I need to tell you about."
My eyebrows slanted downwards, but I tried my best to put on a face of sincere interest to what Mika wanted to share.
"What's up?"
"I thought about this the whole day.... and it's really important to me, Yuu-chan"
I tilted my head, "What is it?"
He looked at me with a smile that mixed with happiness and sadness. His eyes wandered away from me, trailing from his side, the ceiling, the table, everywhere. Mika had been trying so hard to avoid eye contact with me. Why was that?
W-what is it, Mika? Why do you have to take so long to tell me? The suspense is already killing me. I gripped my hands tightly and bit my lip. I was starting to become impatient.
"Mika?" I said in a deep voice.
His eyes returned to my direction with his mouth gaped. Mika took a deep breath before finally deciding to speak out.
"Yuu-chan, I might go to Medical School in America."
