"Know that your rose is in bloom. A light hits the gloom on the gray."
Mika sang with a voice of an angel. The sound of the grand piano as his fingers danced on it made me tremble. Mika had enchanted me so. It made me impatient.
I wanted to tell him everything. I wanted to scream that he was my best friend, my brother, my world. If only he could remember that easily. But at least there was hope. Even if it would take me weeks, months, or even years, I'll definitely make Mika remember everything. I'll take it one step at a time.
The music faded away, and Mika's voice had silenced. I tilted my head wondering what had made Mika stop playing. "Something a matter?" I asked meekly.
He shook his head and stared at the piano keys, "No. I just... I really feel like we've met before."
Of course, we have. We were--... no. We are family, Mika. We grew up together, and if it weren't for that incident ten years ago, we would have been together for our whole lives.
"Hey, don't laugh at me, okay?" he said, still staring down at the piano.
"I won't," I reassured.
He scratched his head and sighed. It was as if he was mentally preparing himself to say something he might regret or be embarrassed about. Then he turned his head to my direction, biting his lower lip. "Ever since I was a kid, I've been having dreams of a fire."
A fire?
"I was in a dark place engulfed in flames. There was a bright exit in front of me that was free from the fire, but I couldn't go there because I was being pulled by some invisible force."
Mika was talking about what happened years ago! He doesn't really remember it completely, but he's been dreaming about it since before. His memories are definitely in there... he just needs something to open the doors that are hiding his memories.
"Then outside the exit was a black-haired boy about the age of five or six--..." He continued. My eyes brightened with Mika's sudden mention of a boy with the same hair color as mine. That boy was definitely me. There has to be no mistake that Mika had been dreaming of me all these years. Mika... if only you knew that I was also the same. The same incident, the same as you... it's been haunting me since that day.
He was still talking about the boy, mentioning things that it must be silly to think that one day he'd find that boy. But Mika still looked forward to that day they would meet. It's never silly. Even I, who thought you were dead all these years, still waited for you to come back into my life.
"It's okay. I think it's not impossible to meet him." I gave a confident smile, "I also have a best friend. I haven't seen him since I was six years old. People around me say he's gone to heaven, but I don't believe them."
Mika's eyes grew as I spoke those words. He looked curious, wondering what else I would say about my best friend, "What do you mean?"
I took both of his hands in my palms and held them close. My emerald eyes gazed deeply into Mika's blue ones. A bright pink color splashed on his cheeks, and I could hear his breath turning heavy.
"Mika..." I whispered softly, a gentle and warm smile appearing on my lips. "He may be an angel, but he's well and alive here on Earth with me."
Astonishment came across Mika's face. His eyes that resembled the sky glistened as he looked at me surprised. "Y...Yuu..." he spoke with a trembling breath.
He took his hands away from mine and rubbed his chest over and over. "Damn it, Hyakuya Yuu." He laughed nervously, "What are you trying to do, make fall in love with you or something?"
Fall... in love?
The memory of our kiss back at the hospital returned to my senses. It was at that time Mika had temporarily recovered his memories. He was about to tell me something...
Yuu-chan, love... I love-...
...but there was a pain in his chest. And then, that was when our lips met with one another.
My heart raced at the thought. So was Mika trying to confess that he... he loved me? If he did have feelings for me... then that would explain the note Mika gave me. So that's why he gave me his number even though we just met.
Those feelings... they're well rooted inside of him. I also... I also love Mika. But is it the same love as him?
I do know that I have always wanted to see him again. That I want to be together once more. But to take it that far...
I trembled at the thought of us being lovers. We'd be more than just family. I...
My chest pounded harder as different images of Mika and I doing lover stuff were drawn in my head. It's not really that bad. It's Mika. I'm confident enough we get along and all that. B-but would Mika even be okay with having me as a boyfriend? I mean, I am kind of a moron.
W-wait--... why am I even thinking about this? I don't even know if Mika really likes me, and we are both guys! I'm pretty sure lots of girls like him!
I pouted, crossing my arms and avoiding eye contact with Mika, "Uh... why? Don't you love me yet?" I joked.
Mika was silent.
W-w-why is he suddenly quiet? I mentally choked. I must have said something really really stupid! Think Yuichiro! What am I gonna do to recover this?? Crap, he's probably gonna get all violent with me again just like the cup shoving.
"Hyakuya Yuu..." I instantly looked at him with a nervous smile, "Eh?"
Mika had a serious expression. His eyes that resembled the cold snow gazed at me with fascination. It made me shiver. It was as if his eyes were undressing me.
"Then how about I kiss you?" He asked brashly.
I stiffened. It was all too sudden for him to ask.
But did I want to say no? It didn't feel like it. In fact, I wondered what would happen. Mika didn't seem like he was joking either, he was dead serious about it.
"G-go ahead. I'd like to see you try." I challenged him. Mika did not stutter, instead, he cupped my cheeks with his palms. I swallowed. Time had begun to slow down as I saw Mika's face coming close to mine. His eyes did not falter from me, and the distance was slowly vanishing.
I didn't resist. Instead, I impatiently wished for him to arrive at my lips already. Closing my eyes, I felt Mika's hot breath tickling my skin. He was near, very near. I could feel him coming towards me.
Then my lips felt like it was set ablaze. Mika had pressed his lips against mine. My breath became shaky, but I welcomed him to bring me warmth. The temperature traveled down to my chest and stomach. It tickled me so, I'm guessing this was the expression of feeling butterflies in your tummy.
Mika tilted his head slightly, and our lips had changed position. He had caught my upper lip in between both of his, and we drew closer to one another. I held on to his shirt with one hand. My palms felt his chest racing at the same pace as mine did.
He leaned towards me even further, and I was slowly falling downwards. I tried my best not to fall on the ground as I was deciding to fall for Mika instead.
My free hand had searched for something to hold on to as Mika and I went on with our lips pressed together.
Without looking at what I was going to touch, I had suddenly pressed my palm on the piano keys, making it let out a loud sound. It had caused me and Mika to break our kiss and look at the piano in shock.
Both of us were flushed in red as we returned our eyes to one another. Then both of us laughed nervously and sat down normally on the chair. I rubbed the back of my head.
"So..." Mika said, looking at me.
"So..." I said the same thing, still, a bit dazed from what had happened.
"Sorry. W-was it disgusting?" Mika abruptly asked.
I shook my head, panicking like a flustered girl. My arms flailed with excitement, trying to make Mika forget the idea of me being disgusted, "No! N-no! Not at all! You were a good kisser!"
"What?" Mika's mouth opened, and his eyes enlarged.
My jaw dropped when I had realized what I spat out my mouth. I flailed my arms in the air once more, "Waaaait! Wait! I mean! It wasn't disgusting!" I let out a breath, "It wasn't bad, really..."
Mika was about to say something when we had heard a car moving near the house. He stood up from the seats and watched the window. "Crap" Mika cussed under his breath.
Huh? What was going on?
"Hyakuya Yuu, my uncle is home." He grabbed me the wrist, making me stand up, and dragged us both upstairs to his room.
A sweat rolled down his forehead. He shut the door behind us as weird steps inside the house. Mika opened the door slightly and peeked outside.
I heard a voice call him, "Mika? I'm home. Are you upstairs?"
The footsteps had become louder as Mika's uncle went up the stairs. Mika closed the door and turned to me, "He's here! Quick, hide!"
"What???" My eyes darted left and right around the room. I ran to Mika's closet and hid behind his clothes.
His door creaked open, and footsteps were on the floor. I took a peek from the holes on the closet door. His uncle was there with him. He was wearing white pants and black boots.
"Mika? You were awake?" The man spoke with a gentle voice. Mika took a step back, "Uncle Crowley. Sorry, I was listening to music when you arrived. Couldn't hear a thing."
"Hmm, ~~ really. You seem to be preoccupied, little Mika." Crowley said. Little... Mika? That man from ten years ago had called Mika the same name as well...
My elbow had suddenly hit a shoebox that was supposedly lying inside the closet in peace. This made Crowley and Mika look at the closet. Holy crap, I'm in big trouble.
"What was that?" Crowley asked.
Mika shook his head violently, "Probably a mouse or something. Anyway, it's nothing for you to worry about."
"A mouse? Then let's kill the cute little pest." Crowley said playfully.
Sweat trickled down my face, and I moved backward. I covered my mouth because my breath was starting to get a little heavy.
Crowley moved towards the closet, and I watched him at every step. His hand reached for the closet door handles. I bit my lip in nervousness.
"Hey, Mika~ A friend of mine invited me to a party tomorrow evening. Do you want to go with me?" Crowley looked at Mika.
Mika blinked, "Huh? Oh... no thanks. I don't really wanna go. I have anyone to talk to."
"Nonsense~ there might be kids your age there too." His uncle replied.
Mika's brows furrowed, "kids...?"
Crowley let go of the closet and clasped his palms together cheerfully, "Oh alright~ I'll let you bring a friend along so you won't feel out of place. How does that sound?"
Mika looked at him suspiciously and hesitated to speak for a moment. Then he nodded his head, "Okay."
"Wonderful!" Crowley slapped Mika's back supposedly to express happiness, but it looked different. He hit Mika so hard that Mika jerked forward and almost lost his balance.
I clenched my fist at the sight.
The red-haired man bid his goodnight to Mika and went out of the room. I waited for his footsteps before coming out of the closet. Mika locked the door and looked at me, "Sorry about that."
"It's okay." I gave him a reassuring smile. "I think I should get going. My dad is probably gonna kill me if he sees that I'm not in my room."
Mika nodded, and both of us went towards the window.
"I had fun." I grinned at Mika as I put a foot down on the window pane. He gave a coy smile, "me too."
I was about to start going outside when Mika tugged the back of my shirt. "Hm?" I returned my eyes back at Mika.
"Hey, do you wanna go to that party my uncle mentioned earlier?" He asked.
I blinked, "Sure." I grinned once more at my blonde friend, "I'll be your date." I joked.
He chuckled, "But I'm the escort, okay?"
My brows furrowed, and I stuck my tongue out, "I am not a girl."
Mika had a sincere smile on his face. It gave me a fuzzy and warm feeling o my chest, and it also made me smile like an i***t.
"I'll see you around, Hyakuya Yuu." He let go of my shirt.
I gave a small chuckle, "Come on. We're way past that full name rule, aren't we?"
Mika's eyes blinked. "Then... I'll see you around, Yuu-chan?" He said meekly with a smile on.
I returned the same smile at home, feeling really elated about how things developed tonight. Before going out of the house, I gave him a goodbye.
"Yeah, I'll see you around, Mika."
