No signs, no lights. Such a mess all over, don't kill your hopes.
I groaned like a zombie as I heard my phone singing its ringtone. "Ahh...." The noise had stopped when I picked up the wake up call, "...Hello?"
"Hyakuya...Yuu! Good morning!" It was Mika's voice. He sounded so bright and happy just like when we were kids. But his memories weren't unlocked just yet. Not yet...
"Ahh.... morning," I grumbled sheepishly. Mika's voice sounded surprised, "Did you just wake up? Hey, it's almost noon!"
The mention of time made my eyes grow large. I hadn't noticed how late it was until Mika had said so. Maybe I was more tired than I thought I was. Mika chuckled on the other line as he must have thought I was being silly. It had comforted me to hear him happy.
"Are you busy this afternoon?" He asked with a cheerful voice. I stretched my arms, the phone pressed against my ear and shoulder, "Nah. What's up?"
"Wanna grab some lunch together?", He said.
I held the phone in my hand and rose up the bed. As I spoke with Mika, I decided to put on some clothes, "Sounds great. Where should we meet?"
"I'll message you the details, Hyakuya Yuu. See you in two hours!" He said. From the tone of his voice, he was planning on hanging up without letting me say any more. But I instantly stopped him, "Hey, Mikaela. Just Yuu is fine. I'll even let you add a chan if you think it's cute."
He coughed, probably not expecting what I had said, "O-okay... Yuu-chan. Just Mika is fine too." He chuckled a bit, and I reciprocated the same reaction, "Alright. See you in two hours, Mika."
I had gone to the bathroom to wash my face. As water splashed all over, I took a glance at the mirror above the sink. A grin spread across my face. I was going to meet Mika again, and it's the best thing that's ever happened to me.
The next few minutes had me preoccupied with getting ready to head out. I wrote a note and stuck it on a fridge to tell Guren that I was going out and that I'd be home late today... or never. Heh.
The door shut tight as I exited the house, rushing to where Mika and I had agreed to meet. I took a train to my destination. We had arranged to see each other at a certain cafe.
It wasn't very big nor was it too small. The place had a vintage feel to it, teacups and old English looking furniture were spread out on the place. Its walls were painted in a faint carnation. A tiny bell gave a small chiming sound as I entered. It made me look at the surroundings, conscious of being in a kind of place I don't usually go to.
"W-welcome!" A curly brown haired boy wearing a butler outfit greeted me. His name tag had the name Yoichi. My eyes darted left and right to check if Mika was around but there were no signs of him.
"Table for one, sir?" The guy named Yoichi gave me a coy smile.
I shook my head at him, "I'm waiting for a friend."
He walked over to a table by the window. It had two vacant seats with royal blue cushions placed on them. "You can stay here while waiting for them." Yoichi smiled as he went off to the counter. I sat down on the chair, instantly getting my phone to check if Mika had sent me a message.
I hadn't heard from him since he told me where we would meet, so I told him I was already at the cafe. The cafe had a calming atmosphere to it, there was Bossa Nova music playing and people weren't very noisy. I could smell the sweet aroma of Coffee and cake surrounding the place. I wonder if Mika usually came to this place?
The same tiny bell that had rung when I had entered had sung once more. Mika had entered the cafe, breathing heavily as if he had run a mile. "Haa.... haha..." His eyes checked around the cafe, probably looking for me. Just when they saw my figure, his eyes brightened up like there were stars in them. "Hyaku--... I mean, Yuu-chan!" He said with a huge smile on his face.
I grinned back at him, "Yo, Mika!"
Mika ran to the table with excitement, sitting to the chair opposite to me with his cheeks kissed with pink, "Did I make you wait long? I'm sorry for being late."
I shook my head in return, gazing at Mika's happy face. It left me in awe at how elated he looked when he had seen me. It was as if the same feeling he had was infecting me too. "Nah, not really. But you owe me something to eat!"
A sigh of relief caught on to Mika, "Okay. Okay, I got you." His eyes looked around the menu carefully placed on the table, "Yuu-chan, do you like Curry?" His question had brought my eyes to life, a memory coming to my senses.
It was back when Mika and I were in the orphanage. One of our caretakers had taught him to cook, and he wanted to show me what he learned. He made a serving of curry, filled with soft carrots and potatoes. At first, I was hesitant to take a taste of what he made, but Mika was so insistent that I finally agreed to eat it. I didn't regret doing it. It was really good that it made my stomach feel all warm and cozy like a fire on a cold winter night.
"Great. I'm starving!"
Yoichi, the waiter took our orders with a smile, and that gave us time to catch up with one another while we waited. Mika had a huge smile on his face, looking at me while trying to conceal his giggles. The face he was making made me go in a fit of chuckles. I must have looked all weird because had suddenly pinched my cheeks all hard to stop me from what I was doing.
Mika whispered, "Hey, stop that! People are gonna look at us."
"So?" I grinned playfully.
He sighed in defeat, knowing that giving me warnings wouldn't work on me at all, "So quit it, Yuu-chan!"
I paused as I gazed at Mika with wide and curious eyes. An idiotic smile grew on me, "That was the first time you called me that without saying my whole name first."
"Ah..." Mika's big blue eyes blinked his mouth ajar and a dash of pink appearing on his pale fluffy cheeks. I raised my index finger, pointing at the adorable expression he was making. He suddenly slapped my hand away, biting his lip, "You don't have to say it out loud! Gah!"
"Pffft-!" I badly tried to conceal a laugh. The waiter came back to our table, placing two plates of curry on it. One was at Mika's side, and the other was on mine. I didn't really take notice to Yoichi or the curry as my attention genuinely stayed on Mika.
"Ohoho~ this is so cute. I can't believe the nurse from hell is--...MPHHHHH!!!!" My laughter drowned out when I felt my mouth being filled with hot and salty cream, and something really hard.
Mika let out a sly chuckle, a devilish smile appearing on his lips, "What? Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sweet melody of your suffering little mouth."
I held onto Mika's hand which had actually jammed a spoon filled with curry and rice inside my mouth. Roughly, I pulled it out of my mouth and swallowed the goodness that was curry. When air had finally returned to my lungs, I exhaled deeply and glared at Mika, the guy who I totally forgot was the nurse from hell.
"You... you didn't have to go that far. I'll seriously cry, you know!" I defended myself, trying to hold back a tear. Mika's brows furrowed with a nonchalant expression, "So?"
I snorted, my grin disappearing and a pout developing on my cheeks, "Che. So... be more nice to me!" My index finger once again stood up with triumph, "It's only natural you, Mika the nurse, should want to see me happy!"
Mika gaped at me as if he had heard something astonishing from my lips. It was true that what I had said was out of the blue, but I had no clue what would Mika think about it. Mika averted his eyes from my direction, his lips moving slowly as if he was hesitating to speak.
With a low hung voice, Mika had spoken, "Then let me be the one to make you happy from now on."
I returned the gaping scene at Mika. This time, my cheeks burned in a bright hot scarlet. My voice kept stuttering, trying to make out a reaction but to no avail did words ever come out. I think they never planned to. I tossed my eyesight left and right with my mouth stupidly opened wide, ending up covering my face.
Mentally, I cursed in panic. I hadn't prepared myself for something like that, and never in my entire life had I thought I would hear that from Mika. My chest pounded hard, I couldn't face him. It was all too much to process.
"H-hey..." Mika called meekly.
My body stiffened at the sound of his voice, "Y-yeah?"
His voice was stuttered a little, but it sounded like he did his best to speak to me, "We... we should dig in before this curry gets cold. Come on."
With an awkward laugh, I uncovered my face, grabbed my spoon and scooped a serving. My eyes focused on the food, not wanting to sneak a peak of the blonde in front of me. For a short moment, we shared silence as we ate our orders. The embarrassment I had felt earlier had slowly been replaced by the yummy curry inside my stomach.
Mika was probably feeling the same because I could see him be able to look at me properly. When our plates had both been wiped clean, Mika had begun talking to me, "Can you come with me? I need to find something to wear for the party tonight."
I nodded and raised my shoulders, "Well, I'm already here so I don't see why not?"
"Great!" Mika smiled as he rose from his seat and headed for the counter. I stood up as well, heading for the door. It was kind of strange though, why would Mika have to buy a new outfit for a party this evening? I was planning on just wearing a shirt and a pair of worn out jeans. So--... did Mika become the fashionista type?
Erm... I guess it wasn't much of a surprise. That guy he called uncle Crowley did look a little... um... pompous? So Mika probably got it from him.
When Mika had finished paying up for our meal, we exited the cafe and took a taxi to a certain store. I wasn't familiar with the area, but it seemed like Mika was. I guess it really was a family thing. After all, he had a new family after that incident just like me.
We were both sitting in the back seat, side by side. My eyes took a glimpse of his hand. It was resting calmly on the leather seat, positioned next to my hand. How I wanted to hold his hand and tell him that I was his family. That I was here with him... his Yuu-chan.
I wish he could remember already.
My eyes moved upwards, looking at Mika who had a hopeful aura to him. He wasn't looking at me, but I knew his heart was. The thought made my own heart race. It was at that moment that I also found Mika beautiful even without his memories. He was an angel.
Even in this state, I want to be able to see him smile with sincerity.
The taxi took a stop in front of the store Mika had wanted to go to. I gave some cash to the driver as Mika and I went out.
A bell similar to the one in the cafe had rung when Mika and I went into the shop. The place had dim lights that gave you a tranquil feel to anyone who would enter. Jazz music had been playing on the radio, and there were displays of suits and tuxedos in different colors and styles.
A man in about his mid-30s had marched towards us with a smile, "Welcome to Kingsman Tailors. How may I help you, young gentlemen?"
"I'm looking for a suit to wear this evening." Mika smiled.
"You've come to the right place! Give me a moment. I might have something just for you!" The man said with enthusiasm as he stepped towards the different suits displayed until he disappeared.
My eyes widened as a sudden realization came to me, "Wait-- why are you wearing a fancy tuxedo to a party?"
Mika blinked his eyes as if he didn't get my reaction, "Huh? Because it's a formal party, i***t. What else?"
I narrowed my eyes at him with a sarcastic laugh on the side, "Well Mr. Nurse from Hell, you forgot to mention that to me, FYI!"
"What?" Mika's head jerked back slightly.
I tilted my head from left to right with my hands on my hips, "Mhmm. Damn straight."
He shook his head and sighed in defeat, "Okay. I'm sorry. Let's just get one for you here too. Just pay me later on when you can." A grin popped on me as I gave a thumbs up, "That's what I'm talking about!"
When the man had come back with a handful of suits, Mika had immediately told him that we both needed something to wear. I don't know why but the man had suddenly smiled a little more ecstatic than he should be and ran off to get us suits. A little while later, he came back with nothing in hand but the same smile.
"Okay, gentlemen. I have the right ones for you. Please follow me."
We followed his tracks, heading to what was the middle of two dressing rooms placed opposite to one another. They both had wooden doors that were closed. The man looked at Mika, pointing to the dressing room at the right, "Please try yours in here, sir." Then he pointed at the other and looked at me, "And yours is over here, sir."
I thanked him for the hospitality and went into the wooden dressing room. The walls of the room were filled with mirrors that would reach from my head to my feet. At the center was a chair with a white suit hanging on its back, a pair of white shoes, and a leaf green necktie sitting calmly.
I looked at the material with awe. It was already amazing how the clothes looked like, but it was more amazing how it seemed to be my size. Even the shoes looked like it would fit me well. Okay... a little creepy but okay...
Slowly, I took my clothes and replaced them with the carefully picked article. The shoes and everything fit perfectly fine on me, and hell did I look really fancy. I didn't usually wear things like these. It was a miracle that I didn't end up looking like a monkey in a suit.
A knock on the wooden door came and so did the man's voice, "Sir? The other sir is done changing. He wants you to see."
"I'm done. Wait a sec!" I announced as I opened the door before me. When the wooden barriers were finally cast out, a majestic and heaven-scented figure had appeared before me. Mika had worn a white suit that matched mine. It perfectly complimented his pale skin, making him look more like the angel he already was. The tie he had was in a different color as it was matched with the same color as his sapphire irises.
It was so strange that even though we wore similar outfits, Mika had made it look a thousand times better.
He looked at me, his lips trembling slightly. I was probably the same because the sight of him had caught completely speechless.
We both made noises without lips curved into smiles. It was obvious that we were both trying to say something, but I guess we were too amazed. Well, for sure, I am amazed at how Mika looked at that moment.
Mika swallowed, letting out a nervous laugh, "You... you look great."
I reciprocated the feeling, "You too. Looks nice!"
"What were you planning to wear if I didn't I tell you what you were supposed to wear?" He smiled at me gently.
I rubbed the side of my left arm and laughed, "Gosh. I was actually gonna wear a pair of jeans and a shirt."
"Lame." He laughed softly, his cheeks touched with an obvious pink. I couldn't help but return the same gentleness of laughter, "I know. But you like me that way, anyway."
Mika softly punched my arm and shook his head, still having the same smile on his face, "Come on. Let's pay for these so we can go to the party later."
I followed him to the counter. After that, we had decided to part ways for a while until we would go to the party. Nothing else happened in between. Mika had given me the address to where the party was at, and he promised to meet me at the entrance so I wouldn't get lost. Well, at least that would be the both of us get lost together. Heh.
I rode a taxi going to a hotel that the party was going held at, and just as promised, Mika had been sitting on a bench placed by the entrance. I ran towards Mika, getting off from the taxi in a hurry, "Mika!"
His attention went to me, "Yuu...chan!" He smiled widely, "You're finally here."
"Missed me?" I grinned.
A sudden sting went through my nose as Mika pinched hard. He went to the door without looking at me, "Don't be conceited. Come on!"
"Hey, wait up!" I called. We had gone inside, joining the party that Mika's uncle was supposedly in. There were a lot of people inside, wearing different colored suits and dresses. They all looked so vain and rich. I felt kind of out of place...
"What are you spacing out for? Come on!" Mika chuckled as he suddenly held on to my hand. I grew wide-eyed at the sudden touch but felt a sense of relief. Being in that crowd had made me feel inferior but Mika holding on to me had killed my insecurities. I felt so much better with him around, "Wha? Where are we heading to?"
"My uncle said he wanted to introduce me to one of his friends. I'm taking you with me." He said as we both bolted around the crowd.
A familiar red hair had appeared in my eyesight as Mika had been going in its direction. I'm assuming it had been his uncle. Mika waved his arm up high, calling his uncle. It had caught his attention as well. He smiled at Mika as his lips had silently spelled out hurry up.
Mika and I both rushed to his uncle's direction.
"Good, you're here." His uncle said with a smile that made me wonder if it was sincere or not. Mika had let go of my hand as his uncle grabbed him by the shoulder, "Mika, come and meet my friend over here."
He gently pushed Mika to his other side where his friend has been standing at. I saw Mika stiffening at the back when he had finally whoever the hell his uncle's friend was. It made me wonder why Mika had suddenly reacted that way. I slowly took a peak of who Mika was facing.
When I finally saw who it was, my heart felt as if it had suddenly run out of blood pumping through it, and the same goes for my lungs but with air. I gaped at the sight of the person. I couldn't believe it with my own eyes.
Standing very proudly was a man who wore a white tuxedo, had scarlet eyes, and pale lavender hair tied in a ponytail. With a pompous smile, he kissed Mika's hand as a greeting.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mikaela. I'm Ferid Bathory."
