CHAPTER 1: I DIED AS TRASH
The rain over the Royal Academy's rear trash fields never washed away the smell of copper and rust. It only turned the dirt into black mire. For ten years, that mire had been my world. My name was Jin. F-Rank. Orphan. Garbage boy. While golden children learned magic inside marble halls, my job was simple: count discarded weapons. One thousand broken swords. Rusted crossguards, snapped blades, chipped pommels - weapons deemed useless by true warriors. On my nineteenth birthday, there was no cake. Only cold rain and footsteps of Abel. Abel was fifteen, but already S-Rank hero, son of Duke Vance, clad in white armor that never caught dirt. He held his white longsword forged from pure light and looked at me as if I were a cockroach. "Why are you staring, trash?" Abel's voice had casual cruelty. "I'm just... counting, Lord Abel," I whispered, knuckles blue from cold. "It's my birthday today..." "Birthday?" Abel laughed. "Trash doesn't have birthdays. Trash only accumulates until it's burned." He lifted his sword calmly and drove blade straight through my chest. Pain was scalding white heat that ruptured my heart. I collapsed onto pile of one thousand broken swords. My blood ran down chipped steel, filling rust cracks with crimson. "Trash should stay in trash," he muttered and walked away. As sight dimmed, I saw Ghost Dorm - ancient condemned black building where Academy shoved unwanted F-Ranks. I lived there alone ten years, shivering in drafty rooms. As my heart stopped, black stone of Ghost Dorm pulsed with deep crimson light. Like friend weeping for me. Then darkness claimed me. [ You died surrounded by 1,000 abandoned weapons. ] [ Hidden Condition Met: You spent 10 years inhabiting sentient cursed construct and loved it. ] [ Ghost Dorm Has Loved You Back. ] [ Reincarnation Sequence Initiated: YES ] I snapped eyes open gasping. Smell of rain hit lungs, but crushing weight in chest was gone. I looked down at hands. Small, thin, covered in grime. Rough wool tunic hung over narrow shoulders. I was nine years old again. Standing in exact same trash field surrounded by same piles of rusted blades. Floating beside my ear was tiny ink-black miniature house, no larger than teacup. Two glowing yellow windows like big eyes, chimney puffing tiny hearts of dark smoke. [ Hi Monarch. You died. I brought you back. ] [ I am now anchored inside your soul. ] "Ghost Dorm?" I whispered. Tiny house bobbed cheerfully. I touched nearest rusted longsword. Dark shadow surged from my feet, wrapped weapon and pulled it down with quiet gulp. [ Castle Devouring... 1 Rusted Iron Sword. ] [ Energy: 1 / 1000 ] [ Reward: +1 Strength ] Warmth rushed into limbs. Aching cold faded. In first life I was victim who cleaned trash until trash consumed me. In this life trash was my food, and my home was my weapon. That night while Academy slept, I walked through darkness. Touched blade after blade. One by one my shadow opened mouth and swallowed them. [ Castle Devouring... 10 Weapons ] [ Strength: F Rank -> E Rank ] [ Feature Unlocked: Shadow Storage ] For entire year I lived in silence. Played role of quiet useless orphan boy. Kept head down, wore dirt-stained F-Rank badge, let older boys kick dirt at me. But every night when moon reached peak, I fed fortress. By time I turned ten, shadow had devoured five hundred broken weapons. Actual combat capability surged to C-Rank, but crest remained stamped with glowing blue 'F'. I hid strength deep. Inside soul, Ghost Dorm was no longer small bedroom. Shadow space expanded into massive polished black-stone hallway with high ceilings. Floating black pots cooked hot meat stew every night using energy from swallowed metal. For first time in two lifetimes I was never hungry. I built soft bed inside shadow room, sleeping in absolute warmth while storm raged outside. When I turned eleven, first piece of my past came back. Icy autumn afternoon when I saw her shivering behind iron fence. Eight years old, long unkempt silver hair over pale gaunt face. Ragged linen dress, wooden collar painted black to mimic iron crest - fake mark of shame. Elara. In first life I hadn't met Elara until nineteen. She had been cold ruthless infiltrator working for Demon King. Only before execution I learned truth: Demon King held younger brother hostage, using his life to force her into espionage. Here she was, eight years earlier - terrified starving child. She looked at me, wide grey eyes dropping to shadow. Eyes widened. "Why does your shadow have teeth?" she whispered. She had innate vision of high-tier spy. I reached into shadow, pulled thick steaming slice of black bread filled with melting cheese - made by Ghost Dorm's kitchen - and held out. "Eat," I said. "Real spies don't starve ten days before assignment." Elara stared, tears welling, snatched it and devoured in three bites sobbing. "Come inside," I said. "Ghost Dorm has room." As small cold hand touched mine, deep vibration hummed. [ Citizen Registered: Elara - Spy ] [ Alignment: Absolute Loyalty ] [ Count: 1 / 3000 ] She sat on edge of shadow bed inside warm fire-lit hall, crying into knees as told everything. Her nine-year-old brother Ren captured six months ago. Demons placed him in Black Spire Prison promising to execute at fifteen unless Elara infiltrated Academy. I sat across. "Your brother won't die at fifteen. We get him tonight." "Tonight? You're eleven! Black Spire guarded by hundred warriors!" "I died once because too weak to protect anything," I replied softly. "Second life isn't for waiting. It's for fixing." THE END OF CHAPTER 1
