Mary is the daughter of the famous grandmaster, the man who held the neighbouring kingdoms to ransom with his powers, as a demon,
There kingdom has fought with a pack that want’s to increase their land, and they were busy killing king Louis people, but when the grandmaster stepped into the matter all the pack ran for their dear lives although no one was chasing them.
The grand master has been acclaimed the most powerful of all demons that has ever lived on earth.
Grand master died at old age livening behind a son and a daughter, his first son Cedric who inherited his father’s title as the grandmaster and a lot of his father’s power, but the child whom he left the more starling powers seems to have been his only daughter Mary,
Mary’s husband Arthur, is one of the richest man in the kingdom, Mary and her old husband Arthur lived with the man’s other wife six houses from king Louis’s place, Sam was the only child of his mother who died a year ago. He was Arthur’s heir and only son in the family. Arthur’s second wife, Lucy, had six grown up girls and no son. Arthur had married Mary in his old age hoping she would bear him more sons. But since their marriage seven years ago, Mary had not once been pregnant.
Now she stood in the centre of the gathering looking at the son with blood-shot eyes. She looked quite unperturbed. The other women who were accused along with her were Monica, Alice, Rebekah, Clara. It had been revealed that this five women were witches and was responsible for the death of Sam.
Monica could not keep still. She seemed very frightened. Alice was weeping quietly, while Rebekah and Clara walked here and there, not really caring. Mary stood firmly looking up at the sun. The five of them were beginning to sweat just like those who had come to watch them. King Louis continued his speech.
My people, our expert witch hunters are here today. They will do a job of finding out who killed Sam. Donald, Willard, he called.
Two men appeared before king Lucas and bowed in signs of respect to the king. They knew their duty well and now faced the crowed, instantly they started playing the native witch-hunting flute, all talking ceased and the two men went into the ring to meet the women.
Donald and Willard were middle aged men who had done the job of witch hunting since they were boys. They had got their power from their own father’s who had been famous while they were alive, on such occasions this Donald and Willard dressed themselves up in a way that frightened young children, they were dressed in coat which covered all their bodies, they had their witch-hunting tools and potions hung all over their body, their head was clean shaved, had amulets and bangles on their waist and arms.
As the sound of the flute increased the women were ask to dance to the sound, they were reluctant but Donald and Willard simultaneously yelled at them to DANCE!’ They jumped and started dancing
Every eye was on the dancing women, Mary, once she started did the steps better than any other circle. The dance went on for quiet some time, while Donald and Willard went to where their working bags was kept to collect the portions which was to be given to women.
The potion was a potent concoction. Only those who made it knew its exact components. It was said to be nothing but a mixture of nothing but ground white native chalk mixed with an unknown medicinal liquid. This mixture had the power of making a witch confess all her evil deeds. The mixtures caught only witches, innocent people were not usually caught.
As they approached the woman with the bowl in their hands, the women stopped dancing and waited for the men to reach them. The atmosphere was tense, Rebekah was sweating heavily and as the men approached her, she burst into tears. Because she was nearest to Willard the bearer of the bowl, she had to drink some of the liquid before any one else. She took three gulps and the bowl was passed to Monica.
As soon as Willard approached Monica, she fell to the ground crying.’ I am not a witch O, I am not a witch, I knew nothing O, I know neither one nor two,O...
Waste no time Donald shouted at her, ‘who cares if you know one or two? Just drink!’
There was murmuring from the crowd as Monica drank from the bowl, then it was Mary’s turn. She drank without hesitation, as if she had been waiting for it to quench her thirst As the other two women drank from the bowl, they stared playing the flute again and the dancing resumed.
Everybody watched with rapt attention who will be caught?’ Was the question in everyone’s mind.
King Lucas fidgeted in his throne where he sat with his daughter princess Moo.
He had always hated this ceremony but it was a tradition that has been existing even before he became a king, it wasn’t that he didn’t believe that witches existed, or that they didn’t commit such atrocities as killing people’s son and daughter, it was only that he often felt the drinking of the at potion was no the correct way of determining who was a witch. He didn’t know what was exactly in the bowl but somehow, he felt that some trick could be played on an enemy any time. He wasn’t sure if his own thoughts what other way of eliminating witches could he offer his kingdom? He couldn’t think of any. He only hoped that one of his queens or children would ever be subjected to the the potion. He didn’t trust it’s judgment. At that moment, Moo nudged him.
Father,’ whispered Moo, see how that woman is foaming.’ King Louis look and day Monica flat on her back, her two legs cycling in the air as she foamed from the mouth. Rebekah and Mary was vomiting, Clara was walking about relentlessly and talking to herself, Alice ran like a mad woman and pointed at the sky. Donald and Willard stood amongst them trying to understand what they said.
