There was one source of light in the solid darkness of the ring. A spotlight that shone on nothing. Except that wasn’t true. There were other people here. I might not be able to see them but I could sense them. Moving around the shadows. Prowling, hunting.
Hunting me.
But they didn’t pounce from the shadows and rip me apart. They just watched. Almost like they were as powerless as I was.
Rooted the spot I found that light again and waited. I knew what was going to happen because it was what always happened.
This was a dream. A nightmare. Even asleep I could recognise that. It just didn’t make any difference. I had no choice but to watch it play out again. Knowing that there was nothing I could do to stop it.
