- HARPER -
The wind blew past me and the damp smell of freezing roses filled my nose. I lifted my head from the seat I was on and rolled it around. The alluring feeling cut through my body, leaving a tingling sensation that excited every bit of me. Within, my wolf scratched and howled, begging me to go and find him.
‘That smell, is it really from my mate?’
I couldn't believe it, while other betas dined and laughed, waiting for their mating call, I had already sensed my mate, and funny enough, he was there too.
My cheeks reddened, legs off from the chairs and I hurried into the ballroom to look for where the smell was coming from. I had only one guess in my mind, the beta that worked in the palace, whom I was close to, was obviously the one.
The scent increased with each step, unconsciously I found myself bursting into the main hall, a place omegas dare not set foot on, my back turned, deep blue eyes running from the gallery to the buffet spot, trying to spot him. Then I hit something.
The rosy scent seemed to fill the surrounding air in that split second. My heart beat faster, I burned in between my legs, desire overwhelmed me. Like a child, I twirled around immediately and my blues were caught in his gaze. I guess time froze, gray eyes like the mist at night, and long brown hair. He leaned close, the tip of his pointed nose almost touching mine, he held no expression, dazzled by me, I guess.
I was lost in his gaze, fighting the urge to touch his abs in that tight shirt he wore, but I wouldn't dare because standing before me was the Alpha of my pack, Rain Gray, and he was also my mate.
“Harper, smile and introduce yourself. Talk!” my wolf yelled at me, but I stood like ice just staring at him. I saw his lips part and my heart threatened to break out of my chest.
“You are an omega?" There was disgust in his voice.
"Hmm” I managed to say.
He gave me a long look and… He frowned.
“Ridiculous. You have to be kidding me?"
Every feeling left me the next instant and confusion washed over me.
'What's going on?’ my wolf asked me.
"I am Rain Gray, Alpha of the Blood Moon pack. Is this what I get as a mate? An omega?!"
My heart weighed, the hall fell into silence immediately, and all eyes fell on me. I cringed under their burning gaze.
“This must be a joke," he continued, taking a few steps away from me.
“This worthless piece of trash is what I am supposed to take as a Luna? This thing. What am I going to do with this? It's utterly of no use to me.” He kept vibrating with anger, my eyes wet, and I couldn't force them back.
“My alpha calm down, please." A voice came from the crowd and I found myself looking in that direction. A fair lady in green, hips curved seductively, appeared. I watched her go to the Alpha and clasp herself on his body.
“Calm down, my Alpha." Her voice was gentle and hypocritical, she placed her hands on his abs.
I bit down on my lower lip. 'Who the hell is this b***h? I can take the Alpha's anger, but I will not condone a third wheel'
Fast, my hands grabbed her, but the next instant, the Alpha's fingers grabbed my neck, lifting me off the ground. I hit them, trying to breathe free air leaving my lungs.
“How dare you touch my woman, you worthless piece of trash. Who do you think you are?" He roared, all my hair standing on the end. His grip tightened, I was suffocating, but he didn't seem to care.
I thought finding your mate was the greatest thing in the world. All the pain and suffering, I would be free from it if I found my mate but why are things like that? My face turned pale by the second.
“My Alpha let go, you will kill her. You shouldn't soil your hands in the blood of an omega for me.” The b***h said.
He let go, my body dropped from the height and hit the ground hard. I groaned in pain.
“Everyone listen!" He turned to the crowd, the b***h clinging to him.
“I hereby declare that Susan Backwood is my Luna and I will marry her” he looked into her eyes. They kissed.
'Susan Backwood… he chose my cousin over me.’ my eyes burned, tears slipping down my cheeks. He turned to me and I grabbed my aching heart.
‘Please don't say it. You can do anything, but please don't do that. Moon goddess please don't let him say it,’ I prayed earnestly.
The Alpha gave me a spiteful look and spoke.
“Harper Backwood, I reject you as my mate."
My heart broke. My mouth opened and no words came. I choked on my tears.
He turned to leave. Without thinking, I yelled. “Please!!! Don't do this to me, please!! I'm your mate, you are not supposed to hurt me. Please don't do this!!”
"Guards drag that thing out of here."
I saw my world crash down with his last words. I stared in horror, even when the guards dragged me out and threw me into the streets, I didn't even do anything. I just got up, dusted my clothes, and walked back to my old home. Immediately I reached the house, I flung myself on the bed and shut my eyes.
‘I hate my life, I don't want to live anymore. Moon goddess, just take my life.’ The words kept repeating in my head as I hugged my knees and cried myself to sleep.

“Wake up, Harper. Wake up, wake up.” The voice whispered into my ear, a pair of hands shaking me vigorously. I opened my swollen eyes halfway and sat up.
“Camila, what's wrong? I am not in the mood for games, please leave me alone, okay?”
" What are you talking about? Get out of bed and go. You have to leave this place now.”
Before I could say another word, she threw my clothes at me. "Only take that, you need to travel light, so they can't catch you.” Her voice was full of fear. She rushed to the window to peep into the streets.
I grabbed her hand and looked her in the eyes. “I am not doing anything until you tell me what is going on.”
She exhaled, her breathing shaky. “The Alpha is dead. The whole town is after you because they believe you killed him.”
I covered my mouth. 'Oh my goodness?"
