Naïve Commoner Lucy

796 Words
Lucy is a hopeful young woman with a positive attitude because despite her experience with this tainted society she always hopes for the best. People say that a positive outlook on life makes life better. Oh, how naïve were their thoughts. Hope town, an ambitious name given to this head village by the forefathers as soon as it barely made the standards of township. Despite its years of snail paced development, the village vestiges can be still seen on this day. The people of Hope Town commuted from one place to another as pedestrians. Though there was a brick paved road that connected the Towns Hall, Merchant Association and the Mansion of Pecunia; owning a carriage only functioned as a status symbol rather than a practical means of commute. Despite the town striving only by the traffic by foot, there is no lack of fast paced feet even on the mud paths surrounding the marketplaces, taverns and the Towns hall. Hope town may not attract travellers from other town, but there is no lack of visitors, merchants, jobseekers and pleasure seekers from the surrounding villages. Hope Town is a place that is within the range of the finances and etiquette for a big name villager. There is no shortage of traffic inbound in various carts, carriages and wagons. It is forbidden to drive a pulled wagon in Hope Town, only those of high society can obtain the permission to ride a carriage or wagons inside the town limits. The buzz of the morning crowd flocked the street like bees around a beehive, amongst the hustle is our Young Lucy walking on the side of the paved pathway towards the big mansion of The Pecunias. Thought the mansion exudes beauty and opulence, it is an ill fit for Hope Town. The mark of extravagance struck out like a sore thumb amongst the humble backdrop of the rest of Hope Town. The contrasting scene is a perfect depiction of the Pecunias. Despite their decades of presence in Hope Town, the Pecunias has never been a part of Hope Town, they have always existed, but never coexisted. The Pecunias are particular in marking the difference between them and a Hope Town civilian, except for the village chief, no one is allowed to visit their mansion, even the servants of Pecunias look down on the Hope Town community as they never buy anything from the local market. The unapproachable family has no lack for wealth and extravagance. The Merchant Association’s Presidency has always been held by the House Master of the Pecunias as an honorary title. The Pecunias control everything related to money in Hope Town and in any town money is hope, Hope Town also is not any different.   “Mister, can you please inform the Young master Seth that Lucy from the orphanage has come to pay him a visit.”   Lucy told the standing guard, as she arrived to the brick paved road towards the Pecunia’s mansion. The guard promptly ignored her existence and stood still, his years of working with the Pecunias let him know that anyone not driving their own wagon on these paved road are not important for him to care.   The confidence Lucy had when she left Little Flower’s orphanage caved in when she witnessed the attitude of a mere road guard. Hoping that the standing stiff man has only failed to hear her, she repeated herself twice. Naive Lucy thought that the guard must be deaf, therefore, she dared to step on the forbidden road to the Pecunia.   The stoic guardsman saw Lucy’s attempt to get on the road, with a menacing glare he swiftly wacked the pole over Lucy’s leg not caring if he might seriously wound the young girl. The sudden assault of the guardsmen only ma Lucy run further onto the road to the middle of it.   The guardsman was frightened by the daring guts of Lucy, as he had seen many pitiful souls wishing they were never born just for accidentally stepping onto brick paved road. For someone to dare to go to the middle of it, Lucy was the first. However, despite the immense offense Lucy has committed, the guardsman did not follow Lucy, he knew that his fate would not be much different if he too stepped on the road.   When the guard it at a dilemma of what to do, a fast moving wagon rushed down the road with fiercely galloping twin black-horses. The only ones who are allowed to ride a carriage in the mansion road are the Pecunias. The guard went white at the sight of the menacing wagon.
