Riley’s face had softened for only a moment, but in that moment, she was more beautiful than I’ve ever seen her. Those amber eyes, usually as hard as Topaz with caution and suspicion, turned to a liquid gold, swirling with wanting and trust. I felt my hand twitch and start to reach for her hand. I wanted to feel the warmth of her skin, her slim fingers enfolded in mine.
Thank God her eyes hardened again before I did something stupid. The look she gave me was enough to jolt me forward again, almost stomping out of the woods and into town.
