My Heart, My Love

Looking out into the blue abyss of the ocean, I felt like I was drowning in a sea of nothingness. The pale light of the moon cast an eerie glow onto the water, which only made my mood darken even more. I slowly took a step toward the water. I couldn’t help but to think of the events that have recently unfolded. As I stare out into the water, I replay the past twenty-four hours in my mind. It was a normal, sunny day just like any other. I was on my way home from my morning class, which I decided to leave early due to having a headache. As I pulled up to my apartment complex, I couldn’t help but smile. My boyfriend, Easton, would be home and I wanted to spend some time with him. Easton and I have been dating for almost two years. We have a pretty great relationship and I have been hoping that it would eventually go even further than just dating. I stopped outside our apartment to pull out my keys. When I stepped inside, I could hear giggling. “Funny,” I said. “It sounds like a woman.” I followed the sound to mine and Easton’s room. I opened the door and it felt like my whole world had come crashing down around me. There, in our bed, was Easton having s*x with another woman. “What the hell is going on here?” I demanded. Quickly, Easton and the woman broke apart from each other. “Kenzie, you’re home early” was all Easton had said. I stared at him in disbelief. “How long has this been going on? Who is she?” Easton and the woman just sat there and didn’t even try to look ashamed. “Six months and who she is does not concern you. You have not been home and are always spending your time at that school of yours. I have been feeling neglected, so I found attention from someone who wants to give it to me” he said. “Get out! Both of you get the f**k out of my apartment!” I couldn’t help but to scream at them. They started to gather their clothes that were strewn all over the floor. Before walking out of the room, Easton turned around. “I will be back for my stuff tomorrow evening.” And with that he turned and walked out of the room. Once I heard the front door close shut behind him, I ran to the door and locked it. With my back against the door, I slid down it and burst into tears. How could he do this to me? After two years? I stayed there and cried for a few hours. When I felt like there were no more tears, I finally picked myself up and walked to the bathroom to take a hot shower. I stood under the water for what seemed like an eternity. I sighed and turned the water off. I dried my body off, got dressed, and then climbed into bed. I turned off the lamp and lay in total darkness staring at the ceiling. My mind was numb and finally drifted off to sleep.
