PROLOGUE:
Moving to a new school was never easy. It meant leaving everything I had grown used to. Friends I used to laugh and play with, streets I knew by heart, and even the simple feeling of being safe and accepted wherever I went.
We had to move because of my mother’s work. She told me things would be better here, closer to where she worked. She told me I might finally find people who would accept me for who I was. But deep down I knew it would not be that simple. I was always quiet, simple, and used to living a humble life that was far from what I was already starting to see in this school.
I never imagined that in searching for a fresh start I would instead find myself facing the hardest days of my life. I thought changing places would change how people saw me, that I would finally be more than just the quiet girl who kept to herself. I carried nothing but a worn-out bag and a heart that still hoped for kindness, unaware that the very people who would hurt me the most were also the ones who would eventually teach me what true love and forgiveness really mean. And on that first morning, as I stepped through the gates of Northridge High, I had no idea that every tear I would shed would lead me straight to the one person who had been waiting for me all along.
