The Last Eclipse: Rise of the Void King
The Last Eclipse: Rise of the Void King
Chapter One: The Boy Who Shouldn't Exist
Part One – The Crimson Eclipse
Legends were rarely born from peace.
They were born from war, from sacrifice, and from moments when the heavens themselves seemed to break.
The oldest story in the Twelve Realms began on a night no living soul could fully remember.
The stars disappeared.
The moon turned crimson.
An enormous eclipse swallowed the sky, painting every kingdom in shades of black and red. Birds fell silent. Oceans stopped moving. Even the wind refused to blow.
Across the Twelve Realms, people abandoned their homes and stared upward in fear.
No one understood what they were witnessing.
Yet every ancient creature did.
Deep beneath the Crystal Mountains, dragons opened their glowing eyes after centuries of slumber.
Far beyond the Silver Desert, giant spirits emerged from forgotten temples.
In the Frozen Kingdom of Nivalis, the sacred wolves raised their heads and howled toward the blood-red moon.
Every living thing sensed the same terrifying truth.
Something had awakened.
---
Hidden within the Temple of Eternity, where time itself seemed to stand still, an old woman suddenly opened her eyes.
She was known throughout history as the Oracle.
Her silver hair flowed across the marble floor like a river of moonlight.
For hundreds of years, she had remained silent.
Tonight...
She spoke.
"The seal is breaking."
The twelve Elders standing around her exchanged frightened glances.
One stepped forward.
"My Lady... has the Void returned?"
The Oracle slowly looked toward the crimson sky.
"No."
Her voice trembled.
"He has been reborn."
Silence swallowed the room.
Another Elder clenched his staff.
"Impossible. The Void King was sealed forever."
"So we believed."
The Oracle closed her eyes.
"A child has entered this world."
"A child whose heart will decide whether every realm survives... or disappears into eternal darkness."
The temple bells rang on their own.
Outside, lightning flashed across the eclipse.
And somewhere, in a forgotten village hidden from every map...
A baby cried for the first time.
---
Seventeen years passed.
The eclipse became nothing more than a bedtime story.
Children laughed whenever their grandparents spoke about monsters and forgotten kings.
Most people no longer believed such legends.
Life continued.
Kingdoms flourished.
Merchants traveled safely between cities.
Peace had returned.
Or so everyone believed.
---
Ashvale was the smallest village in the Western Realm.
Nestled between emerald hills and ancient forests, it was a place where everyone knew one another.
Farmers greeted each sunrise with smiles.
Children raced through the fields chasing butterflies.
The scent of fresh bread drifted through the narrow streets every morning.
It was the kind of village where nothing extraordinary ever happened.
Which was exactly why Kai loved it.
The seventeen-year-old woke before dawn every day.
He carried water for the elderly.
Helped repair broken fences.
Gathered herbs from the forest.
And somehow still found time to make every child in the village laugh.
"Kai!"
A little girl waved excitedly from across the marketplace.
"Will you tell us another adventure story tonight?"
Kai laughed.
"Only if you promise not to fall asleep halfway through."
"We won't!"
"You always say that."
The children burst into laughter.
An elderly woman smiled warmly as Kai helped carry her basket.
"You're too kind for your own good."
Kai shrugged.
"I just like helping."
"If only every young man were like you."
He scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
Compliments always embarrassed him.
---
Near the edge of the village stood a small blacksmith's shop.
Its owner, an old man named Rowan, was hammering a glowing sword when Kai arrived with a bundle of firewood.
"I brought the wood you asked for."
Rowan nodded without looking up.
"Leave it there."
Kai placed the logs beside the furnace.
The old blacksmith finally turned around.
His weathered eyes rested on Kai for several seconds.
Again.
That same expression.
The one Kai could never understand.
"What?" Kai asked.
Rowan sighed.
"Nothing."
"You've been staring at me like that since I was a kid."
The old man remained silent.
Then he quietly muttered,
"Your eyes."
Kai blinked.
"My eyes?"
"I've seen them before."
Kai laughed.
"In a dream?"
"No."
Rowan's face grew unusually serious.
"On the night of the Crimson Eclipse."
A chill ran through the room.
Kai forced a smile.
"There you go again with those old legends."
"They're not legends."
"They happened."
Kai leaned against the doorway.
"So you really believe a monster king existed?"
"I don't believe."
Rowan lowered his hammer.
"I remember."
The words lingered heavily between them.
Kai wanted to ask more.
But Rowan simply returned to his work.
Conversation over.
---
That evening, the village gathered around a large bonfire to celebrate the Harvest Festival.
Music echoed through the square.
Children danced.
Merchants sold sweet cakes and roasted meat.
Lanterns floated into the night sky.
Kai sat with his friends, laughing as musicians played cheerful tunes.
For a while...
Everything felt perfect.
Until he noticed something strange.
The moon.
It looked...
Red.
Only for a second.
Kai blinked.
Its silver color returned.
He rubbed his eyes.
"Must be tired."
But somewhere deep inside him...
Something stirred.
---
Night came.
Kai returned to the small house where he had lived alone since childhood.
He had no memory of his parents.
The villagers often told him they had died protecting him when he was a baby.
He accepted that story.
Because it was all he had ever known.
After blowing out the candle, Kai lay in bed.
Sleep came quickly.
And with it...
The dream.
He stood in endless darkness.
Cold mist drifted across a black stone floor.
Far ahead stood a throne unlike anything he had ever seen.
It was carved from obsidian and surrounded by broken swords.
A figure sat upon it.
Its face remained hidden beneath shadows.
Only its glowing crimson eyes could be seen.
The figure spoke.
Its voice echoed through the endless void.
"You've kept me waiting..."
Kai tried to move.
He couldn't.
"Seventeen years..."
The throne slowly rose into the air.
"The time has come."
Kai struggled desperately.
"Who are you?"
The shadow laughed softly.
"You already know."
"I don't!"
"Come home..."
Darkness spread across the throne.
The crimson eyes grew brighter.
"My King."
Kai's heart pounded.
"No!"
He reached toward the figure—
—and suddenly woke up.
His breathing was ragged.
Sweat covered his forehead.
The room was silent.
Only the sound of crickets drifted through the open window.
Kai sat upright, pressing a hand against his chest.
"The same dream..."
Every night.
Always the same throne.
Always the same voice.
Always those final words.
"My King."
He looked out the window at the peaceful sleeping village.
"I don't know who you are," he whispered into the darkness.
"But I'm not your king."
Far beyond Ashvale, hidden within the deepest shadows of the world...
A pair of crimson eyes slowly opened.
A voice echoed through the darkness.
"He has begun to remember."
And somewhere in the distant forest surrounding Ashvale, blue flames flickered silently between the trees.
Something was coming.
And by the time the sun rose...
Kai's ordinary life would be over forever.
