Chapter 7

Chapter 7 I don't think I've ever seen New Cresthill look as alive as it did at that moment. Even as I was sitting in the passenger seat of Arthur's Porsche Panamera, I couldn't help but look outside the window to see the night life instead of admiring the car. I loved enjoying the sights whenever I was in the passenger seat because when I'm driving I'm always giving the road my 100% attention. The streets seemed alive and the people were joyous. It felt like it was New Year's Eve with the way everything was going. I watched as we drove past groups of people dressed in suits and dresses, holding hands and laughing. The vibes that surrounded the night completely warmed my heart. I turned to look at Arthur and again appreciated the sight that greeted me. I watched the way his suit tightened around his arms as he drove before he turned his head to look at me, smiling. The entire zoo was let out in my stomach at that moment and I couldn’t help but blush and look away. I looked back at the road and watched we drove up what looked like a mountain trail. The lanterns that were floating around were what really captured my attention right before a mansion with massive gates came into view. The mansion reminded me of the extravagant mansions that I'd gotten used to at home, but unlike the modern mansions made of glass and marble, this one was the manor kind of mansion. Big white pillars and big windows surrounded by white shutters, red bricks and a fountain placed in the middle of the driveway. The entire place was surrounded by people, music could be heard playing, "wow, it looks so lively," I said in excitement as I looked at Arthur as he parked the car near the staircase that led to big open doors. "We don't do this very often," Arthur replied as he switched off the car. He took my hand in his and gave it a little squeeze before he got out and came to my side of the car. I was highly fond of his manners and I felt myself flush as he opened my door for me. I smiled as I accepted his hand and climbed out of the car, making sure that my Alexander McQueen heels wouldn't get caught in my dress so I could avoid any incidents from taking place. I definitely could do without the embarrassment. "So what's everyone celebrating?" I inquired when I looked up at everyone dancing and eating. It was like a buffet evening night, except out in the open instead of inside of this beautiful home. He shrugged, his body close to mine, "just the arrival of someone special," he replied to me as I locked my arm through his. I was too much in a daze to ask anything else. "We can come back out here and have a good time, but for now," he paused as we began to climb up the stairs, away from the people and towards the house now, "I would like you to meet my family." Snapping out of my gaze as I turned and looked at him, my eyes wide open, "what?" I asked him. He innocently looked ahead like he didn't just tell me something that would make any man or woman weak in the knees. I don't want to be introduced to anyone in his family, the man makes me see stars whenever we're together but I'm sure you'll all agree that now's definitely not the time for introductions. It was too early. "Y-you can't introduce me to your parents," I said as I placed my hand on his bicep and stopped walking. He simply looked down at me. "There's nothing to be worried about," he tried to soothe me, and yes it was helping, but a small part in me was still fighting against it, "they'll love you. Trust me," he said as he continued to walk. I wanted to stand still but I sighed and let him lead me into the doors of the house that were already wide open. I looked around the place, pleased with what I saw. The place was obviously designed by someone with excellent and expensive taste. It almost made me feel like I was back home and that was a big claim coming from me. I was used to the high ceilings and grand chandeliers that cost hundreds of thousands. I was used to the real gold utensils and the stone statues that decorated the seemingly endless hallways. We didn't walk far before we were met with an elderly couple. The woman was wearing a simple long sleeved red dress that reached just below her knees. It had a sleek look and was paired excellently with black velvet heels. The man that stood besides her matched her clothing by wearing a red suit paired with a black shirt, with his first few buttons undone. I've never seen a man pull off a red suit before, and he's definitely set the standard high. They gave off the feeling of superiority and were surrounded by a slight air of snobby. Even though they were both smiling at me, something about their eyes was deadly and gave me the chills. The lady was the first person I've seen in New Cresthill without the usual bob hairstyle. Instead her dark locks were long and wavy, and her red stained lips were thin. She had a pointy nose and rosy cheeks. Her brown eyes seemed familiar and her posture was as perfect as postures could be. The man besides her, even with his almost baldness was a silver fox. The grey trimmed beard, the grey eyebrows that stood above his blue eyes made him seem even more terrifying. His thin lips were in a smirk kind of smile and he stood with his arm around the lady, keeping her close to him. "Oh, you must be Diamond," the lady praised as though she'd heard nothing but good about me even though we've never met, "it's so lovely to finally meet you," her wide smile grew even bigger as she opened her arms and walked towards me. I let out a nervous laugh as her arms wrapped around me. It wasn’t meant to be rude but I was sure the look I sent Arthur at that moment was rather obvious. "She's-" Arthur began. "- his mother," she finished off as she stood straight and looked at me, because we stood eye to eye, "I'm Arthur's mother. My name's Evangeline Charlesworth," she introduced with a nod, "and this is my husband, Nathaniel Holmes Charlesworth II." "Well I'm-" I tried to speak, trying to calm down my nerves even though I didn’t know the reason behind my nervousness. "There's no need to introduce yourself," she cut me off shaking her head and placing her hand on my shoulder before she removed it with a laugh, stating that she loved the dress and would hate to ruin it. "Mother," Arthur's voice broke through the cheery cloud of his mother's as he was by my side again. I reached out to him, accepting his hand and letting him pull me closer to him and it was closer to what was familiar to me. "You're doing that thing you told me that you wouldn't do." She looked at him, frowning before she turned to look at her husband, "what thing? I don-" she paused as she looked back at Arthur and myself before she sighed, "sorry, I can't help that I'm excited to meet her." His father stepped forward, "you'll have to excuse my wife, Arthur rarely brings home ladies," his father said as he outstretched his hand to his wife and she walked to him, like a magnet to a metal surface. I let out a nervous laugh, "well I wouldn't say that..." I said softly, squeezing Arthur's hand secretly, showing my displeasure and disagreement, "we're just friends," I elaborated before I looked at him and he winked at me in response, nodding in agreement though. It was uncomfortably silent for some time among us and I cleared my throat uncomfortably as I looked at the three, snapping them out of whatever daze or staring contest they were in. "We should all get outside," his mother said as she looked up at her husband whose eyes were on mine, and I quickly looked away from him, afraid because he didn't look too friendly, "everyone's expecting...uh, us." "You should try out some of miss June's home made pizza," Arthur said to me and I smiled at him, remembering how he promised me that he would let me taste the best pizza he's ever had, made by the most amazing woman after his mother, "it's big, it's greasy, it's messy, it's everything that you're willing to try. You are going to love it." I let out a breath, "I can't wait, after that," I paused, "I'm going to teach you the robot and how you can dance to almost every song with it. Trust me, all eyes will be on you," I said to him, thinking about how he and I both promised each other in the car that we'd do something the other person wanted. He told me he'd make me taste Miss June's pizza and I told him I'd teach him how to do the robot because he mentioned that he doesn't do much of dancing and even though I've done plenty of dancing, robot remains something that I'm terrible at but truly enjoy even though every time I do it people give me weird looks. "Oh they will be," he chuckled as he moved my hair behind my ear and looked away, speaking to himself but I heard, "but for a completely different reason."
