Leonora, Leonora, hi, hi, can you hear me? I opened my eyes, lazyly, why is my mother shouting so early in the morning, I had this wonderful dream about, yet another wonderful evening. Yes, mother I said, standing up from the bed, don't you have somewhere you need to be I asked her? Ofcourse but only after ten, I will be meeting with my mother-in law.myy mothers name is Apollonia, the sweetest, kind hearted and loving mother a girl would ever asked for. We are three siblings, with me being the eldest and only girl, along two handsome brothers. She raised us as a single mom, but she did her best and I will forever be grateful for all her sacrifices. I was having a day off, working at the local super market as a cashier, spending the day with my bundly of joy, my 2 year old baby boy, Ez. Oh, he is just a bugg, and I love him alot. We are, at the toddler stage, and it is not for the weak, as everything, every word ends up in ' don't do that', stop it, but we are loving it here, how I wish he's father was part of his son's life, so he can experince all the joy af raising a child and seeing how your child develops a character. I met Ez's father, when I was working at the Post office 4 years back. It was not love at first sight. He used to frequently come there for work related things, so we used to see alot of each other. At that stage I was a year single, and as for him, let's just say, he pretended to be single.. Oh, what a fool I was. The signs were there, but I chose not to see them and ignore them. On a random day he asked for my number, and I gave if to him, against my best friend's warnings, how I, wished I had listened to her, but oh well, fool.We started chating, calling non-stop, he will bring me luch at work, do me favours, and all that, until oneday he asked me out to be his girlfriend and I said yes, oh I was so inlove. we did everything together, our whole lifes got entangled together, fast forward we moved in together. It was a bliss, date nights, flowers oh, flowers on a random day, just to show me he loves me, and I was hooked. My love language was cooking for him, and I would prepare his favourite meals, that was my way of showing my appreciation for everything he did for me. Coffee dates, ice cream dates, that was our things. My mom would call and i would not sometimes answer. My life was, so perferct. up until the day I felt pregnant and things just got so bad, I cried everyday. Oh. but what a beautiful pregnant momma I was, he supported me through my pregnancy journey, right up until I gave birth and that's when he cheated with my best friend. I found out through mutual fiends and confronted him, he did not deny anything. and proudly told me that he was no more feeling excited when he thinks about me, or us, that he doesn't love me anymore. The most painful part was him lieing about it for months, while I felt the distance between us, and he would asure me that it was nothing but my hormones. As we ended things, he chose also to end his role as a father to our dear son. My heart arched for my son but I had to be strong for him, and give him the best life has to offer. All this thought's are runing through my mind, while my mom keep's on asking me a million questions, today is also my son's second birthday, hence why all this memories and thoughts flooded my mind, as I still wonder how life would've been, if he's father was part and parcel of our life's, I guess we will never know, will we,What was mom asking? You have got to be kidding me, Nora, so you mean to tell me I have been talking to myself this whole time? sorry, mother I said, and give a quick apologetic smile, my head is just at the party we are planing for today.m, That it what zi was asking said my mom, is everything sorted, when are they delivering the cake?Yeah, yes, motherdear everything is sorted and Ez is gonna get his spidermen cake, heis friend are arriving at 2o'ckock, please, help me make it a beautiful memory for him, ofcourse said mom, he is my only grandson, and I will spoil him rotten every chance I get, which reminds me, please come help me to offload his suprise gift will you, she said as she worked to the doori am coming mom, I replied, just as my cellphone beed with a notification, a messaged from Ez's dead beat father, the nerve of this man. how dare he? this is just so disrespectful, after the whole yearThe message is so mediocre, "happy birthday to my champ, I love him" seriously? wow!i threw my cellophone on m bed and quickly ran out to help my mom that is screaming on the top of her lungs from the kitchen door telling me to hurry up, as I am delaying her, she still needs to go to a meeting. After helping he with the gift ,I quickly start to set-up the dexorations for the party, which is. a spiderman themed party, we all have to dress up. The bithday boy is at his uncle's and will be arriving any minute. I promised myseld to always put my son first and be theé best mom for him, always.

Old wounds
The baby’s formula cost forty-two dollars, and Leonora's bank account held exactly thirty-eight.Standing in the fluorescent glare of the grocery aisle, clutching two year old to her chest, Leonora felt a familiar, crushing wave of defeat. Ez whimpered, his tiny fingers tugging at the frayed collar of her faded sweater. She rocked him mechanically, her eyes burning with a exhaustion that sleep could no longer cure. Two years ago, Brad—Ez's father—had walked out. He hadn’t just left; he had looked Leonora dead in the eye while she was holding a screaming, colicky newborn and said, "This isn't the life I signed up for. You're draining me." Then, he packed his bags, cleaned out their joint savings account, and blocked her number. He left her with a stack of past-due bills, a broken heart, and a shattering sense of worthlessness. The rejection was a physical ache, a gut-wrenching reminder that she hadn’t been enough to make him stay. She had vowed then, through bitter, midnight tears, that she would never trust another man with her heart—or her son's future."Excuse me, ma'am?"Leonora blinked back her tears, startled by a deep, smooth voice beside her. She turned to see a young man, likely in his late twenties, standing by the shelf. He wore a crisp, tailored charcoal suit that looked entirely out of place in a discount grocery store. He had sharp, striking features, but his dark eyes were remarkably soft."I couldn't help but notice," he said quietly, holding up a pristine white canister of the exact formula she needed. "They put the last of this brand on the top back shelf. I think it falls under your brand.""Oh. Thank you," Leonora muttered, her defensive walls immediately snapping into place. She didn't need charity, and she certainly didn't need some wealthy-looking stranger witnessing her rock bottom. "But I actually changed my mind. We don't need it."She turned to leave, but Ez, fussy from teething, reached out his chubby hands toward the man, accidentally knocking Lenora's worn wallet from her grasp. Receipts, loose pennies, and a single, maxed-out credit card scattered across the dirty linoleum.Loenora froze. The sheer humiliation of the moment broke something inside her.
