The Alpha’s Training
“Absolutely not.”
The sun wasn’t even up yet. The moon still hung high above the White Fang Territory. The entire palace was asleep. Every sane person was asleep.
Which was exactly why Summit Angel Warm was currently buried beneath three blankets and refusing to move.
A knock sounded at her door.
She ignored it.
Another knock.
Louder.
She ignored that too.
Then—
The door opened.
Sam groaned dramatically. “I said no.”
A familiar voice answered. “You didn’t say anything.”
She pulled a blanket over her head. “I was thinking it.”
“Unfortunately, I can’t hear your thoughts.”
Sam peeked out.
Froz stood in her room.
Arms crossed.
Expression unreadable.
Looking annoyingly awake.
How was that possible?
The man was a monster.
A literal monster.
No normal wolf looked that composed before sunrise.
“It’s still dark.”
“It’s dawn.”
“It’s night.”
“Dawn.”
“Night.”
“Dawn.”
Sam pointed accusingly. “See? This is why nobody likes mornings.”
Froz’s eyebrow twitched.
For some reason, watching her argue while half-buried beneath blankets reminded him of a stubborn pup.
A very loud pup.
Unfortunately.
The stubborn pup was now his responsibility.
“You have five minutes.”
“No.”
“Four.”
“What?”
“Three.”
“Wait.”
“Two.”
Sam immediately sat up. “You’re counting too fast!”
The Alpha turned and walked toward the door.
“One.”
The door closed behind him.
Silence.
Sam stared.
Then flopped backward dramatically.
“I hate him.”
A voice echoed from outside. “No, you don’t.”
Her eyes widened.
The infuriating Alpha had heard that.
Twenty minutes later—
Sam stumbled into the training grounds. Half asleep. Completely grumpy. And still offended by the existence of mornings. The northern training field sat behind the palace.
Large.
Open.
Covered in fresh snow.
Several warriors trained there daily.
Unfortunately for Sam—
Today they were all watching.
Every single one.
Wonderful.
Just wonderful.
Metro stood nearby holding a clipboard.
Because apparently this entire palace had decided her suffering was entertainment.
“Good morning, Lady Summit.”
“It isn’t.”
Metro nodded. "Understandable."
At least somebody understood.
Froz stood in the center of the field.
Waiting.
Patiently.
The moment Sam reached him, he spoke.
“Late.”
Her jaw dropped. “Late?”
“Three minutes.”
“I had to wake up.”
“You knew the time.”
“I was asleep.”
“That’s generally how mornings work.”
Metro quickly looked away.
Probably hiding a smile.
Traitor.
Absolute traitor.
Sam pointed toward Froz. “One day I’m pushing you into a lake.”
The Alpha looked unimpressed. “You’d have to catch me first.”
The challenge hung in the air.
Dangerous.
Tempting.
Sam narrowed her eyes. “Challenge accepted.”
The first hour was horrible. Truly horrible. Froz started with basic endurance training.
Running.
Snow sprints.
Obstacle courses.
Balance drills.
Everything Sam hated.
Everything.
By the time they finished, she was breathing heavily. Her legs burned. Her hair was a mess. And she wanted to throw something at him.
Preferably a large rock.
Froz looked completely unaffected.
Of course he did.
The man wasn’t human.
Or wolf.
Or anything normal.
He was a machine disguised as an Alpha.
“Again.”
Sam stared. “What?”
“The course.”
“We just did it.”
“Again.”
“No.”
“Again.”
“No.”
“Again.”
Sam dropped dramatically into the snow. “I’m dead.”
Froz looked down at her. “You appear alive.”
“Only technically.”
Several warriors laughed.
Sam pointed toward them. “You’re all terrible people.”
The laughter grew louder.
Froz fought the urge to smile.
Barely.
Hours later—
The physical training finally ended.
Unfortunately.
That wasn’t the part Froz cared about. The real reason they were here was her power. The mysterious force that had emerged during the rogue wolf incident. The power neither of them understood. The power that refused to leave his thoughts.
The Alpha’s expression became serious.
Immediately, Sam noticed.
The teasing disappeared.
The playfulness vanished.
Something important was coming.
“Stand.”
She obeyed.
Without complaint.
For once.
Froz moved closer. “Tell me exactly what happened that night.”
Sam swallowed.
The memory returned instantly.
The rogue wolf.
The fear.
The panic.
The voice inside her.
The overwhelming power.
She explained everything.
Every detail.
Every sensation.
Every strange feeling.
The Alpha listened carefully.
When she finished—
Silence settled over the field.
Then he asked:
“Can you do it again?”
Sam blinked. “What?”
“The power.”
“I don’t know.”
“Try.”
Nervousness curled inside her chest. The last time that power appeared, she had nearly lost control.
The thought frightened her.
Froz noticed immediately.
Of course he did.
The Alpha stepped forward.
Close enough that she could see the tiny flecks of silver hidden within his blue eyes.
“If something happens, I’ll stop it.”
The confidence in his voice surprised her.
No hesitation.
No uncertainty.
Complete certainty.
As though nothing in the world could reach her while he stood there.
The realization warmed something inside her.
Dangerously.
“Okay.”
She closed her eyes.
The training grounds became quiet.
Even the warriors stopped talking.
Everyone watched.
Waiting.
Sam focused.
Remembering.
Searching.
Trying to find the strange force hidden inside her.
At first—
Nothing happened.
Seconds passed.
Then minutes.
Still nothing.
Frustration grew.
“I can’t—”
A sudden pulse interrupted her.
The sensation exploded through her body.
Power.
Ancient.
Wild.
Overwhelming.
Her eyes snapped open. A wave of energy burst outward. The snow beneath her feet cracked. Several warriors stumbled backward.
Metro’s clipboard hit the ground.
The temperature seemed to change.
The atmosphere itself shifted.
Every wolf present felt it.
Instinctively.
Primitively.
Their wolves reacted.
Not with aggression.
Not with fear.
Submission.
Pure submission.
The feeling vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Silence followed.
Heavy silence.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Sam’s breathing became uneven.
“What was that?”
No one answered.
Because everyone was looking at Froz.
The Alpha’s expression had hardened.
Not from anger.
From concern.
And something else.
Something darker.
Something more dangerous.
Because what he had just witnessed wasn’t normal.
Not even close.
Later that afternoon—
Training officially ended.
The warriors returned to their duties.
Metro disappeared somewhere.
Yet Froz remained unusually quiet.
Sam noticed.
Naturally.
She always noticed.
The Alpha stood alone near the edge of the training grounds.
Lost in thought.
Which immediately made her curious.
A dangerous thing.
Curiosity and Sam rarely ended well.
She approached cautiously. “You’re doing it again.”
Froz glanced sideways. “Doing what?”
“Thinking.”
The Alpha looked offended. “I always think.”
“Not like this.”
She stopped beside him.
“What are you worried about?”
For a moment, he didn’t answer.
Then—
“You.”
The response caught her off guard.
Completely.
“What?”
Froz sighed.
His gaze drifted toward the snowy mountains.
“The power you used.”
Her smile faded.
Immediately.
The Alpha continued.
“That wasn’t ordinary dominance.”
She remained silent.
Because she already knew.
Deep down.
She had known from the beginning.
The feeling inside her wasn’t normal.
The way other wolves reacted wasn’t normal.
Nothing about it felt normal.
Froz finally looked at her. “You need control.”
“I know.”
“You need discipline.”
She groaned. "I knew you were going to say that."
The Alpha ignored her.
“You also need patience.”
Now she looked personally offended. “Okay. That’s just rude.”
For the first time all day—
A small laugh escaped him.
Short.
Quiet.
Real.
Sam froze.
Her eyes widened. “There!”
Froz immediately regretted everything.
“You laughed.”
“No.”
“You did.”
“No.”
“You absolutely did.”
The grin spreading across her face felt far too satisfying. Dangerously satisfying.
The Alpha turned away.
Attempting to preserve what remained of his dignity.
Unfortunately—
The damage was done.
That evening—
Queen Rhed invited them for dinner. The moment they entered the dining hall, she noticed something.
Immediately.
The Queen smiled knowingly.
Dangerous.
Very dangerous.
“How was training?”
Sam collapsed into a chair. “Horrible.”
Queen Rhed looked concerned. “Oh?”
“He’s a tyrant.”
The Queen glanced toward her son.
Froz calmly sat down.
“I disagree.”
“You made me run.”
“That’s how training works.”
“Too much running.”
“There’s no such thing.”
Sam gasped dramatically.
Queen Rhed laughed.
The warm sound filled the room.
For a brief moment, the palace felt different.
Brighter.
Lighter.
Like a family.
The realization hit all three of them.
Though none said it aloud.
Later that night—
Sam stood on her balcony. The stars glittered overhead. The cold wind brushed against her skin.
Yet her thoughts remained elsewhere.
Training.
The power.
Froz.
Everything felt complicated.
Confusing.
Exciting.
Terrifying.
A familiar voice interrupted her thoughts. “You should sleep.”
She smiled without turning. “There it is again.”
“What?”
“The lecture.”
Froz stepped beside her.
The moonlight illuminated his features. Creating sharp shadows across his face. For a moment neither spoke.
Then Sam quietly asked:
“Are you scared of it?”
The question surprised him.
“The power.”
Her gaze lowered. “Are you scared of me?”
Silence.
The wind howled softly around them.
Finally—
Froz answered. “No.”
The response came instantly.
Without hesitation.
Without doubt.
Sam looked up.
His blue eyes met hers.
Steady.
Certain.
Honest.
The Alpha continued. “I’m worried.”
The distinction mattered.
More than she expected.
His gaze remained fixed on hers.
“There’s a difference.”
Something inside her chest tightened.
Warmly.
Dangerously.
Because for the first time since the power awakened—
Someone wasn’t looking at her like a threat.
Or a mystery.
Or a problem.
He was looking at her like someone worth protecting. The realization left her speechless.
Froz eventually looked away first.
A mistake.
A dangerous mistake.
Because the moment he broke eye contact—
His wolf stirred.
Restless.
Protective.
Possessive.
The feeling annoyed him.
Greatly.
Yet it refused to disappear.
Later that night—
Long after Sam had gone to sleep—
Froz stood alone inside the palace library. Ancient books covered the table.
Old records.
Forgotten histories.
Lost legends.
Everything he had gathered since the rogue wolf incident. The Alpha opened another dusty manuscript.
Scanning the pages.
Searching for answers.
Searching for anything.
Then—
A symbol caught his attention.
His eyes narrowed.
The drawing looked familiar.
Very familiar.
His heartbeat slowed.
The same symbol.
The exact same symbol.
The one he had briefly seen glowing beneath the snow during Sam’s power surge.
Impossible.
The Alpha turned the page.
Then froze.
For the first time in years—
True shock crossed his face.
Because the text beneath the symbol contained words he never expected to read.
Words that could change everything.
Words connected to an ancient bloodline thought to be extinct.
Words connected to a forgotten power.
And somehow—
Connected to Summit Angel Warm.
Froz stared at the page.
Unable to look away.
While far above the sleeping palace—
The moon shone brightly over White Fang Territory.
Watching.
Waiting.
As secrets buried for generations slowly began awakening.
