Chapter 15

The Mark of the Moon For the third consecutive morning— Summit Angel Warm officially declared war. Against sunrise. “I quit.” “No.” “I resign.” “No.” “I refuse.” “No.” Sam pointed dramatically toward the pale orange sky. “The sun isn’t even fully awake yet.” Froz White Fang continued walking. Unbothered. Unimpressed. Unreasonably immune to her suffering. “You’re late.” “I was sleeping.” “You were hiding.” “I was strategically resting.” The Alpha raised an eyebrow. “Behind a curtain?” Sam froze. Then slowly looked away. Unfortunately— That was exactly where he had found her. Queen Rhed had laughed. Metro had laughed. Even the servants had laughed. It had been humiliating. And now Froz wouldn’t stop bringing it up. The worst part? He looked amused. Actually amused. The terrifying future Alpha was developing a sense of humor. This was clearly Sam’s fault. And she wasn’t sure if she should be proud or concerned. The training grounds were quiet that morning. Snow covered the earth like a silver blanket. The cold wind drifted through the northern forest. Everything felt peaceful. Almost too peaceful. Froz noticed it immediately. His instincts rarely failed him. Something felt different today. He couldn’t explain why. Only that his wolf had been restless since dawn. Watching. Waiting. Expecting. The feeling irritated him. Greatly. “Focus.” Sam groaned. “I am focused.” “You just tripped over nothing.” “There was snow.” “There is always snow.” “Exactly.” The Alpha sighed. Patience. He needed patience. Apparently. Because somehow he had become responsible for the most stubborn wolf in existence. Several hours later— The physical training ended. Which meant the difficult part was about to begin. Sam knew it. Froz knew it. Even Metro knew it. The mysterious power hidden inside her wolf had become impossible to ignore. Each day revealed something new. Something stranger. Something more dangerous. And today— Froz intended to push further. The Alpha stood across from her. His expression serious. Immediately. The teasing vanished. The playfulness disappeared. Training became something else. Something important. “Again.” Sam sighed. “I don’t know how.” “Try.” “I tried yesterday.” “Try again.” “I hate that answer.” “I know.” The fact that he knew somehow made it worse. Much worse. She closed her eyes. The training field became silent. Several warriors stopped sparring. Watching. Waiting. Everyone had heard rumors now. The rogue wolf incident. The strange dominance. The silver glow. Curiosity spread quickly inside White Fang Territory. Very quickly. Sam ignored them. Or tried to. Instead she focused inward. Searching. Looking. Listening. Trying to find the strange force hidden inside her. At first— Nothing happened. Only silence. Only darkness. Only her own heartbeat. Then— Something changed. A whisper. Soft. Ancient. Feminine. The sound drifted through her mind like a distant song. Sam’s eyes snapped open. “What was that?” Froz immediately stepped forward. “What happened?” Her breathing quickened. “I heard something.” The Alpha’s expression hardened. “What?” “I don’t know.” The answer frustrated her. Because she wasn’t lying. The voice had vanished almost instantly. Leaving behind only a strange feeling. Like moonlight. Like silver light. Like something watching her. Froz didn’t like it. Not one bit. That evening— The White Fang Palace library was unusually crowded. Ancient books covered an entire table. Scrolls. Maps. Records. Documents. Everything Froz had gathered during the last few days. Metro adjusted his glasses. The mountain of books concerned him. “Have you slept?” “No.” Metro sighed. His Alpha had entered what Queen Rhed called his “obsession phase.” A dangerous condition. One that usually resulted in impossible workloads and very little sleep. Unfortunately— This obsession involved Summit Angel Warm. Which made it even worse. Froz opened another ancient text. Scanning the pages. Searching. Looking for answers. Anything. Then— A familiar symbol appeared. His eyes narrowed. Immediately. The same crescent-shaped mark. The same design he had discovered the previous night. The same symbol connected to forgotten legends. The Alpha leaned forward. Reading carefully. Line by line. Word by word. His heartbeat slowed. Because this text contained information the others lacked. Information about a mark. A mark that appeared only once every several generations. A mark connected to the Moon Goddess. A mark associated with an ancient bloodline. A bloodline long believed extinct. The more he read— The worse his expression became. Metro noticed immediately. “What did you find?” Silence. Then— Froz slowly turned the book around. Metro read the page. His eyes widened. Then widened further. Then widened again. Because the illustration on the page looked disturbingly familiar. Very disturbingly familiar. The symbol. The crescent. The ancient markings. Everything matched. Everything. The servant swallowed. “My Alpha…” Froz finished the sentence. “I know.” Neither looked comfortable. Not even slightly. The following morning— Training resumed. Unfortunately. At least according to Sam. The future Luna was currently attempting to negotiate. Badly. “How about we skip training today?” “No.” “Tomorrow?” “No.” “Next week?” “No.” “Next year?” “No.” She sighed dramatically. The Alpha remained unaffected. As usual. Then something unexpected happened. The wind suddenly stopped. Completely. The training field became silent. Too silent. The birds stopped singing. The trees stopped moving. Even the warriors paused. Confused. A strange feeling swept through the area. Cold. Ancient. Powerful. Froz immediately looked toward Sam. His instincts exploded with warning. Danger. Not external danger. Something else. Something connected to her. The Alpha moved first. Fast. Very fast. “Summit.” She looked up. Confused. Then gasped. Pain shot through her chest. Suddenly. Violently. The world tilted. The snow beneath her feet seemed to blur. Voices echoed in her ears. Not one voice. Many. Ancient. Distant. Calling. Whispering. Watching. Sam stumbled backward. A silver glow erupted beneath her skin. The same glow from before. Only stronger. Much stronger. The warriors immediately backed away. Fear flickered across their faces. Not fear of Sam. Fear of the power. The unknown. The impossible. “Froz…” His name escaped her lips. Barely. The Alpha reached her instantly. Catching her before she could fall. The moment he touched her— Everything changed. The silver light exploded outward. A wave of energy surged across the training grounds. The snow trembled. The trees shook. And for one brief moment— A symbol appeared on Sam’s wrist. Clear. Bright. Undeniable. A crescent moon surrounded by silver markings. Glowing. Alive. Ancient. Then— It vanished. Just as quickly as it appeared. Silence followed. Heavy silence. Complete silence. Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. Nobody spoke. Because everyone had seen it. Every single person. The mark. The impossible mark. The mark that shouldn’t exist. Sam looked down. Her wrist appeared normal. No glow. No symbol. Nothing. As if it had never happened. “What…” Her voice trembled. “What was that?” No one answered. Because everyone was staring at Froz. The Alpha’s expression had become unreadable. Dangerously unreadable. His mind raced. The books. The legends. The symbol. The bloodline. Everything suddenly connected. Every piece. Every clue. Every impossible detail. And for the first time— Froz became truly afraid. Not of Sam. Never of Sam. But of what others might do if they discovered the truth. That evening— The palace felt different. Tense. Quiet. The servants whispered. The warriors exchanged worried glances. Rumors had already begun spreading. Of course they had. Rumors always spread. Especially inside a territory. Especially when something impossible happened. Sam sat alone inside the palace garden. Confused. Frustrated. Scared. Because she didn’t understand. None of it made sense. Not the power. Not the voice. Not the mark. Not the growing feeling that something was changing inside her. Footsteps approached. She already knew who it was. “You’ve been avoiding me.” Froz stopped beside her. For several moments— Neither spoke. Then the Alpha sighed. A rare sound. An exhausted sound. The sound of someone carrying too many thoughts. Sam immediately noticed. Of course she did. “What did you find?” The question hung in the air. Froz looked toward the moon. Bright. Silver. Watching. Waiting. Then he looked back at her. His blue eyes unusually serious. “I found a legend.” Sam frowned. “A legend?” The Alpha nodded. “There are stories older than the territories.” Older than the territories? That alone sounded impossible. Froz continued. “Stories about wolves blessed by the Moon Goddess.” A chill ran through her. Despite herself. Despite the absurdity. Because somehow— The words felt familiar. Dangerously familiar. The Alpha hesitated. Then added: “Stories about a bloodline that disappeared centuries ago.” Silence. The wind moved softly through the trees. Sam’s heartbeat quickened. Because deep down— She already knew. Whatever he was about to say— It would change everything. Froz looked at her wrist. The place where the mark had appeared. Then finally spoke. “The symbol we saw today wasn’t random.” Sam swallowed. The Alpha’s voice lowered. Almost becoming a whisper. “It has a name.” The atmosphere shifted. The night itself seemed to listen. Waiting. Watching. The Alpha met her eyes. And said the words that would change her life forever. “The Mark of the Moon.” Silence. Pure silence. Sam stared. Unable to move. Unable to speak. Unable to breathe. Because something deep inside her wolf— Something ancient— Recognized the name. And for the first time— The sleeping power within Summit Angel Warm began to awaken.
