The Book of Shawn.
"I said this seat is taken", a voice yelled loud over the music playing in the night club. Diamond, who owned the place , found her attention focusing back into reality. she was daydreaming for a few moments as she stood behind the bar to wash and dry drinking glasses. "is there a problem?" she asked as she looked over the two men about to argue on the corner of the bar. "Plenty of seats for everyone." She quickly made two drinks quickly and served them to the two men. "Here." she told them in a soft, reassuring voice. "These drinks are on me." She gave each man a friendly smile as she pushed the glasses to each man at the same time. The men held up their glasses and just gave one another a single nod of the head to agree that they wanted no trouble. Diamond continued to wash glasses then dry them and finally put them away. She normally didn't work behind the bar but one of her employees called off and another is on Vacation so Diamond really had no choice but to roll up her sleeves. she normally greeted the guests at the door as they came in. She asks the guests how big they party is and them escorts them to their seats. She liked seating guests because she makes sure everyone gets the same amount of tables, work and tips. Equal guests means no favorites and no fights.
Drink after drink, customer after customer, Diamond worked straight on and kept washing glasses in-between the drinks she made. She made herself a drink and stepped back from the register bar that way customers didn't see her drinking. Especially since she owned the club. Then she took two long drinks of her drink just before she took a long, anxiety releasing breath. This was her first break of the night. She had been busy all night. consistent. Not busy, busy. Not slow and quiet. It was a steady stream of customers all evening and all night.
Diamond leaned back against the wall and took one long deep breath. She then looked at everyone, talking ,singing, dancing and laughing their night away. Then she smiled a wide warm smile. She was proud of herself. She then let her eyes drift and skim over the crowd again. From one side to the other. She saw a lot of regulars that come out often, she seen a few classmates from when she was in High School. There was some sharp dressed men, some women with beautiful dresses. Then she ran into her hairdresser who is getting married some. The hairdresser was with a group of women, laughing and having a good time. Diamond had no idea where to even look. Diamond caught her hairdresser's eye and quickly raised her glass as if she was giving a high five. But instead With a nod of her hair, the hairdresser did just the same. She couldn't help but notice a man from across the club that attracted her attention. He wasn't creepy looking or anything like that. He didn't look like he was about to start trouble. He was actually very handsome. well dressed. Clean cut and clean shaved. He wore a tailored black suit that fit him just right and he wore a tailored with a red tie. No pattern on the tie. Just a plain red tie. She noticed the man had no drink. She found that to be a little odd. I mean sure people come here from time to time on a business meeting or gathering and they do not drink until after their business or work is done but it's awfully late to be waiting for some business to show up. His eyes caught hers, She froze briefly and blushed as she quickly looked away. Thinking nothing of it she turned back to the bar and started making drinks. She served a man a drink and as the man walked away, she noticed the same man with the same time. His eyes caught Diamond's eyes again. This time, not only did her face turn red but she got butterflies all throughout her stomach. This time she really got a good focus on his appearance and again, quickly looked away.He had the most handsome features. He had a very broad, sharp jaw line, blue eyes and blonde hair, trimmed neatly. His face was almost blank. Hard to read. He had a serious look to him. Diamond gave him a welcoming smile before she turned away to help customers. The steady flow of customers needing drinks seem to be endless but also seemed to help time fly by. Diamond told her staff to cover her side of the bar while she took a restroom break.she took a long look over herself in the mirror. All this work was paying a toll on her makeup. She pulled a compact of powder then she powdered her nose so that it wasn't shiney. She was only gone a few moments from both using the restroom and freshing up her face. As she returned back to her place behind the bar she quickly started to serve drinks again. After just a few moments and a few drinks served later, She heard an unfamiliar yet attractive sounding voice of a man. As she turned quickly to see who was speaking to her, she stopped breathing for a moment when she looked this very handsome man straight into his eyes. She felt her face turn flush as she lost her self momentarily into his eyes. "Hello" she managed to mumble to him. She cleared her throat and caught her breath. "What can I get for ya?" The man noticed the effect he had on her and he gave her a halfway smile. "I'll take a jack and coke, please." He couldn't help but feel flattered from the way she seemed to blush and act so nervous around him."Sure thing" she replied to him as she broke from the state she had on him and she began to to make his drink. She noticed that she could smell his after shave and boy did he smell good. She works around men all the time and never smelled a man that turned her on like he did who was he anyway? She had never seen him before.
