Chapter 11

2539 Words
Emily has not returned to the hotel since then. She excuses herself to everyone for being "sick" which is totally untrue. She ignores her best friend's calls, as well as Jason's, she doesn't open the door for anyone she knows when they knock on her house. She simply vanishes from the face of the earth to the world outside of hers. Amir tried to look for her several times, but he always self-sabotages himself by refusing to go after a two-faced woman. Although, despite that and everything he thought and said... He called her, about four times, but she never answered, much less returned her calls. She picked up the phone at home and after three days, she turned off the mobile. Emily is tired, of everything. Of all, she needs space and she is aware that she will only have it if she leaves the city. ***** On the morning of Thursday, April 9, Emily takes the first flight from Chicago to Los Angeles and stays at her parents' beach house for more than two days... When Amir finds out that morning that she has left town, he freaks out. "I don't care how much it costs!" He yells “Hire the best private investigator in the country! The whole world if possible and find out where she is. I want her back in town... I want her back now!" He yells again, "Damn!!” He ends the call and throws the phone out of his reach. Clutching his head with both hands he walks back to his desk and drops everything on it to the floor. “AH!!" He yells furiously. He is upset, so much so that his profanities and expressions prohibited in his religion come out of him by themselves, without realizing it and without caring in the least. He is furious, to the point of despair and he cannot hide it. Emily you're going to drive me crazy... You're going to make me a bane and I shouldn't let you. But I can't help but feel what I'm feeling for you. You are the devil incarnate. By Allah! Monday April 13, 2015. Despite Emily avoiding him for all those days while she was still around, Amir was able to keep his cool because he knew she was in town so he could keep an eye on her. But having her away from him, knowing that she was gone and not knowing her whereabouts... that was something else. And a very big thing, because she had slipped out of his hands. He lost control of the situation and that has never happened to him. Amir is an efficient controller and calculator, to the point of obsession and failing in this bizarre way, for him, was devastating. After that night, where Amir fell into sinful temptation for her, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop thinking about Emily, and everything he felt for her and which until now he refuses to continue feeling. Amir can't accept that he likes her like crazy. That he likes her without measure, that he likes her desperately. But no matter what... He'll bring her back, even if it has to be dragged. And this time he will make love to her. Yes, he will truly make her his. He will make her regret leaving him that way, when he tried to apologize to her until he lost count and hi's reason. He had never done that either. He never regrets his actions, he never loses his sanity for anyone and, for her he is being able to do it and that she ignored him and to finish off, she also left him... That doesn't make him happy. No way... The days had passed and he still can't find Emily's whereabouts, at least not exactly. And that... in a way, makes him sad and bitter a lot more than usual. Because all week, Amir hasn't been the same since she left... Because he misses her, because he is sorry, because he needs her. They must talk, things cannot stay like this, he needs to explain what happened. Sighing, he stops thinking about his situation with Emily, and plunges into work because at ten o'clock he has another new board of directors. Because unfortunately, no matter how hurt he is, his business can't wait. 11:00 AM As Amir finds himself back in the office having a cup of coffee to control his non-stop baiting nerves due to the situation, Mihair walks into his office unannounced and Amir explodes. "But how dare you? What did I tell you? I don't want interruptions!" He yells, "Leave me alone!" "Sir..." Amir cuts him off. "Get out!" Mihair swallows hard at the sight of Amir's bestial gaze and quickly rushes out: "Miss Rose made a reservation for a flight back to Chicago tonight, sir." Amir turns suddenly and tilting his head asks: "How true is that Mihair? And you better not be lying to me to calm me down, because I'm going to kill you with my own hands." At this point and believing him capable of anything, the faithful servant nods. "By Allah sir." Mihair picks up a document and leaves it on the desk with obvious fear "Thanks to a contact at the flight agency, we obtained a copy of his registration and reservation. Miss Rose arrive in town tonight, sir, at ten o'clock." It seems that today is the lucky day for Amir and God has heard his prayers. Amir stops looking at him and walks back to his desk to take the document and, putting on his glasses, observes the information given in detail, he reads each paragraph very carefully. When he's done, he takes off his glasses and sits back in his executive chair. Throwing the document on the desk, he whispers: "Leave me alone, please." "My Sir." Mihair makes a kind of bow and leaves the office. Sighing, he shifts in his seat and closes his eyes. The feelings of confusion are killing him raw. His life hasn't been the same since that night he last saw her. Tonight you will come back to me... Oh, Emily. What will become of us? 10:05 PM Having been alone and away from the city for so many days did her a lot of good, Emily returns strong and determined. She feels good and even accomplished. Being alone and away from all this madness was what she really badly needed. She excitedly watches as the plane lands in Chicago and her heart betrays her as she remembers Amir as nothing else leaves the airport and stares into the darkness of the night. There are no stars... Not like that night when she last saw him. It took a lot for her to stop thinking about him during the past days, remembering that night and everything she felt on the way to her penthouse still stuns and saddens her. Since she had to come in by taking a shower and then realize how wet all of her was, her underwear…was the most disturbing. He had excited her, like no other man in her life. Emily shakes her head at the memory and fiercely stops thinking about it. This is not the time to fall back. From now on, the Arab can go to hell! Carefully, she takes her small suitcase out of the trunk of the taxi and walks firmly to the reception, where the doorman receives her and announces that she has two bouquets of flowers waiting for her for four days and that her little locker is full of messages, details and gifts. "Thank you Robert." She whispers affectionately. "Please, when you can, bring me the flower arrangements. "Yes, Miss Rose, with pleasure." With that said, she walks over to her locker and pulls everything for her out of it. She puts everything in an extra stock bag, which Emily always carries in her purse, and seconds later, she steps into the elevator. When she opens the door, the aroma of home invades her, her perfume... her essence. She missed her home and there is nothing better than being back. Throwing the keys in the nearest toiletry bag, she walks to her room and taking a seat on the bed, takes everything out of the bag and begins to go through the packages, letters and gifts that were sent to her. There are two gifts from Katherine, they were chocolates along with two cards. «Friend, whatever you are going through, you know that I love you and that I am here for you always. I leave you these delicious chocolates, you know they always say they work to overcome bitter moments» Emily smiles as she finishes reading the note and carefully opens one of the presents her friend has given her and eats a chocolate. She then checks some documents, they were business things as well as two small thin packages, which contained more documents. She also has bills... Tax stuff and some pending payments. But... One particular card catches her eye. Such a card is glued to a gift box of relatively small size. Reading the card, Emily's world begins to spin: «Miss Rose... I want to tell you through these lines that I'm sorry for what happened, sincerely, it was never my intention to offend you. Quite the contrary, despite our discussions and what I may or may not think of you. I respect you, as a woman and as a professional... if you will allow me, I want to apologize to you in person. If it is of your need, I will leave the hotel immediately for your comfort and I suppose... my own. But before you do such a thing, let me see you one last time and explain why it happened, please... let me hear from you. Or I won't be at peace with myself, if I have to go back to my country and I haven't apologized to you.» Atte: Amir Saud. Emily drops the card and it falls from her hands to the floor... Is he already leaving the country? A deep dizziness takes over her and when she goes to pick up the card from the floor, the phone that connects to the reception of the building begins to ring, causing her to let out a sigh. Carefully, she takes the card and, along with her gift box, places it on her nightstand. Leaving the room she runs to the living room and answers: “Hello, Robert..." "Miss Rose, you have a visitor." Emily frowns and, preoccupied with the situation with the note just read, asks the janitor who the visitor was. "Jason Dash, Miss Emily." She lets out a sigh and nodding responds: "Okay, let him go upstairs." "Right away, miss." And how did he find out about my return? Little brother... little brother. Emily walks to the door and opens it wide, seconds later Jason gets out of the elevator and seeing her best friend and her sister he pounces on her, giving her a big hug. "But what was it?" she whispers as she smiles and hugs him back. "My God Emi, where have you been?" He asks her softly but very seriously "You had us with the god in the mouth." Emily closes the door and walks after him to the couch. “I'm going through a lot… I needed space. Walk away" "But what things? Are you talking about Jake? Was it really for that?" Emily rolls her eyes and whispers: "Jason! He was unfaithful to me with someone who was supposed to be my friend." “Yes, I know…" He stops talking and seconds later he sighs saying “You're right, every reason in the world… It's that Jake, well, I don't know what's wrong with me, I try to justify everything. But I feel like it wasn't that big of a deal, at least not enough to drive you away like that. At least... You should have warned. Katherine was very sad not to hear from you." "Have you been able to talk?" She decides to change the subject since she doesn't want to think about Amir. Jason nods. “Little but yes. It's mostly about work though." "How are you Jason? What do you feel about all this?" His friend sighs and closes his eyes for a few seconds. When Emily sees him, she stands up and gets much closer, sitting next to him. “It hurts..." He whispers “I didn't think I would lose her, I was so sure of her love for me... that I thought I was invincible and that she would never leave me, but finally she did... for not giving her her place. And I deserve it. I must admit it." Emily hugs him, hugs him tightly and as she does, she whispers in his ear: “You know how much... How much I love you J?" He smiles and slowly opens his eyes as he nods. “Like me to you." He sighs “A life..." Emily smiles at this and, holding back a pout, she bites her lower lip. "So, you know you can't lie to me, right?" “Yes." Jason whispers in a small voice as he nods. Sighing, Emily wraps her arms around Jason's neck and knowing that his best friend and brother isn't going to lie to her, she dares to gently ask him: "Tell me you love her, Jason. You do, right?" He nods regretfully. “I do it and a lot… to my misfortune. But emotionally I recognize that I am unstable for her, so as much as it hurts, this time will do us good. It's time for me to focus on myself and heal, heal the wounds of my past." Emily smiles as she stops hugging him and brushes the tip of her nose with him, as a symbol of her faithful love. A show of affection that they maintain since they were children. “I'm so proud of you. And I assure you, you are doing the right thing...she loves you, I could see it in her eyes. I'm sure she will wait for you as long as necessary." "Thank you... That's good to know." He smiles at her while at the same time he gives her a wink. Emily smiles too but she decides to change the subject again and playfully asks: "Now tell me. How did you know it was coming?" “Well, I paid Robert very well, you know, we're accomplices… I told him to let me know when you got back to the building right away." Emily falls backwards against the padded back of the sofa and laughs out loud. Jason wrinkles his nose as he smiles lazily. "I'll invite you to dinner... come on. Let's get out of this confinement Emi. Also, you have a lot to tell me, such as: Where were you." She nods and while laughing she replies: "Let me get my coat, I'll be right back. I could never say no to an invitation to the best brother that life could give me. I deserve to be distracted even for a while in the face of so much uncertainty.
