CHAPTER 10

FREYA

Once everyone left class, I looked at Miss Ocean. She walked over to me, and sat down. Luke was still there too, for some reason. All of a sudden, three more people walked in. I didn't recognize any of them. I looked at Miss Ocean, and then at Luke, trying to get an answer from one of the two. Luke stood up and walked over to them. Freya. I want you to meet my parents and this is their friend Tony. He's a hacker and a really good one. He said. I was confused about why they are here. I asked Luke what was happening. ", were going to help you run away, Freya and we have a really good plan. Listen, Freya, I'm really sorry, you told me not to do or say anything, but I had to, your my best friend, so I'm getting you away from your parents until you turn eighteen. Then you can come back and put them in prison for all they've done to you. He said." I just stared at him. Was he crazy? Did he not hear my warnings? Then his mom spoke up. "Listen. Freya, I know your scared of your parents, but we will keep you safe no matter what. You are like a sister to Luke, so that makes you our daughter in our eyes." She said., fine. What's the plan I said? Then Luke started talking. First, we have a seven-hour head start on them, so you don't have to worry about them finding you for a few weeks. Second, we have to get that stupid tracker off your ankle. That's what Tony is here for and he can definitely help with that. Once we get that off, we need to plant it somewhere in the woods that's far from home. That will give us a little bit more time to get away. I was thinking about the next town over, and then we would turn around and head towards California. It's the farthest from our city and they wouldn't think of looking there because of that, he said, and I nodded my head. I have to admit Luke has a really good plan. I didn't know if I could turn him down on this, so I told him I was on board with it. He was smiling ear to ear. I told them what happened last night with Mr Grayson, since I'll be gone I wouldn't be able to plot and put him behind bars, so I figured it would be best to leave that to Miss Ocean. Then I told them about this morning and the man that came over I told them everything about what he did to me. I could tell Miss Ocean was furious with everything. I just said Luke's mother was crying. Luke and his father were just sitting thinking and Tony was just staring at me for some reason and it made me feel uncomfortable but warm. At the same time, it felt protective and I didn't understand why I looked at the time and it was almost time for the second class to get out. That's when we all plan to leave, according to Luke. I looked at Luke and he smiled back at me. I felt really loved at that moment and I started crying. I told them how amazing they all are and how much I appreciate all of them. When I was finished, Luke looked at tiny and told him to get started. I pulled my pant leg up and put my leg on a chair to give him better access. he picked up the gigantic bag that he had brought with him and put it on another chair close to mine. I looked at him as he looked at me and asked if I was ready if he messed up. I nodded my head for him to start. He pulled some tools out of his bag and sat them down. Everyone watched quietly as he went to work on my bracelet. I couldn't believe this was happening. I was leaving home today and I wasn't going to look back, no matter what, I was going to be free in a few hours with the help of my best friend and his family. Miss Ocean got up and left through the door saying she would be right back. She was gone for maybe ten minutes and then came back with snacks in her hand. She passed them around to everyone and we munched away as we watched Tony, who turned a snack down because he was too focused on the device. We were running low on time. We had 20 minutes until second period was out and then everyone would be in the cafeteria, making it harder to sneak out. Not only would we lose the cover of all the students, but they would easily see us from the windows when we get into the cars. Tony finally finished saying done and I was free of that stupid tracker. I looked at my ankle. It was kinda red from the device being there for so long but I wasn't in any pain. Tony started packing his tools up and gave me the tracker. Are you positive it wasn't triggered? Luke asked Tony. He nodded his head and told Luke there was nothing to worry about. "Okay, we have five minutes to get out of here. Are you guys ready," Luke asked. We all said yes in unison. We all started towards the door, then there was a knock. We all looked at each other, then Miss Ocean answered. Asking who it was, we heard Mr Grayson on the other side saying his name. Miss Ocean told him to wait a minute. She looked pissed and I was kinda scared for Grayson. She told us to line up on the wall so she could get rid of him. When we were all in place, she went and opened the door, asking him what he wanted. He said he wanted to take her to lunch. She hesitantly said yes, that would be nice. Then she told him to wait a minute so she could get her jacket. She closed the door and told us to leave in three minutes. I quickly hugged her, knowing this was the last time I would see her for awhile. She told me to take care and to stay safe. I told her the same thing and went back to my spot on the wall so she could leave without him seeing me. she opened the door and walked through it. She closed it behind her, and I instantly felt bad that she had to go out with him just so I could leave the school. We waited for three minutes and then we left the school. Me and Luke got in his new truck and his parents as well as Tony got into their cars. Luke gave me a hoodie to put on and told me to put it over my head as we drove through town. We drove out of town and put the bracelet deep in the woods. We kinda buried it too so we could give them a harder time looking. Then we turned around and started in the other direction towards California. It was now eleven and we had 5 hours left of our head start. It's a 50-hour drive to California. I'm not too excited to spend almost a week in the car between driving, camping and so on, but it gets me away from my parents. So I'm ready for this. Luke started getting a call from his parents. He answered them and they told us Tony was coming along. Luke asked why and they simply told him to ask Tony. I looked behind us to see Tony driving. He smiled and waved at me and I smiled back. I sat down in my seat and enjoyed the drive. After about three hours of driving, my stomach grumbled. I realized I hadn't eaten yet. Today Luke heard it and told me he was going to stop at a diner. He said it would be a good time to ask Tony why he was following us as well. I nodded my head in understanding I couldn't wait to get to this diner because I was starving. We pulled into a small parking lot with an even smaller building. It was cozy and I liked it. We got out of the car and went in. We all three sat down and ordered food. Tony told us why he came along, saying he wanted to give us extra protection just in case. It felt like there was more to him, but I believed him when he said he wanted to keep us protected. Our waitress came by with our food and we started eating. It all tasted so good. I was in love after the first bite and couldn't stop shoving it in my mouth. I finished my food and went to pick up my water. When I looked up, the boys were looking at me like I was crazy. They both started laughing and I felt extremely embarrassed. I drank my water and watched them eat.

MISS OCEAN

After listening to Freya about Grayson, I was furious. I never knew someone could be so cruel and I definitely planned to exploit him for it. No matter what, we were getting ready to leave when someone knocked. I asked who it was and sure enough it was Grayson. I told him to wait so they could line up against the wall. When they were good, I opened the door. He was standing there and asked if I wanted to go to lunch with him. I figured it would be a good idea to get him out of the school in case he rats Freya out I said yes and told him to wait. I closed the door and Freya hugged me. I was really going to miss her but I'm glad I could help her. I grabbed my coat. She went back to the wall and I opened the door to walk out. We went outside. He offered me a ride, but I told him I would rather drive in my car, so we got in our cars and went to a restaurant across the street. It was pretty nice so I assumed he was paying, which is perfectly fine with me since he is a monster who needs to pay for what he's done to Freya. This wouldn't even cover it a little bit, but at least it was a start. We went in and took out seats. The server came up and took our orders. I got the most expensive thing on the menu. I didn't feel hungry, but I didn't care. He started making small talk as we waited. I sat there playing with the bread. He was talking so much. I don't think he realized I wasn't listening. Finally, the food came. I had a few bites. Then I told him I was full. He looked at my plate and I could see a hint of hatred on his face. I wanted to laugh but didn't. He said that it was OK and called the server over for some boxes. She came with two, and we packed our food. When we finished she brought us the check. He looked at it with anger but washed it away and put his cash on the table, then we got up and went back to school. I told him thanks for lunch and that we should totally do it again. He agreed but I could tell he didn't want to. I walked back inside and they were all gone. I went through my last two classes, then at the end of school I called Freya's mom. I told her Freya got detention and would be here for another hour. She asked if she could do it tomorrow and I said no since it,'s bad teaching her mom was not happy but ended up giving in. She asked if she could go fifteen minutes early since they had a guest arriving at seven. I knew exactly what that meant and I said no to mess around a little bit more. I brought up the point that she would be out by five and if she walks she would be back before 5:15, so you guys should have time before your guest arrives. She said fine and gave up. She hung up the phone on me with anger and I chuckled, knowing I had messed up her night.

JENNIFER

how the hell did Freya get f*****g detention? This has never happened before. I was so pissed off. I forgot to ask how, but I definitely knew I was going to punish the hell out of her. She had better make dinner real quick when she gets home or else I will f**k her up badly, I thought to myself. I needed to calm down so I went outside and smoked a cigarette, then I went back in and started the TV. There was a kids show on which pissed me off even more. How could that stupid teacher give her detention. She's messing with my money now, which is not ok at all I kept watching the show until I got another call from the school. It was that stupid teacher again. "Hi Jennifer. I know you wanted your daughter home, but you could have called saying you were picking her up, because she skipped detention. I will have to give her two more days." I didn't pick her up. What do you mean? I asked her. Freya didn't come to detention. She must have skipped. The teacher said now I was furious. I hung up the phone and looked at the tracker. It says she in the next town over. I called Mark and told him to meet me there. When we arrived, we didn't see her at all. It said she'd been here for the past few hours. I told Mark, "well, clearly she's not. He said we started looking for her, but couldn't find anything we were supposed to see her. She should be right here. f**k, I said. I looked down and started digging with my hands. She is my money maker. It says she's here but she's not, which means only one thing I didn't dig for long. I found the tracker, but it was not attached to her. Mark punched a nearby tree out of anger. We have to call him. Don't we. I said he looked at me and nodded his head. He would kill both of us. Let's go back to the school and see if we can figure it out. I said he shook his head and pulled out his phone. If we wait longer she will get farther away and he won't find her at all, then we will be dead. For sure, he said he dield the number and within 10 minutes he was here
