One scent, No control

TRIXIE'S POV The next morning, I woke up feeling like a tractor had run over my stomach. I sat on the edge of my bed, groaning as a sharp wave of period cramps hit me. I forced myself to stand up, dragging my feet over to the closet. I managed to pull on a loose shirt, but the pain was so bad I had to stop and lean against the wall, clutching my tummy. “Damn…I hate being a woman.” I muttered to myself as the bedroom door opened softly, and Mary walked in carrying a steaming mug. She stopped the moment she saw me bent over. "Oh, Miss Trixie," Mary said, her voice full of worry. She quickly set the mug on the nightstand and rushed over to help me sit back down on the bed. "Are you okay? You look so pale." "I’m fine," I grumbled, though my face was twisted in pain. "Just my stupid monthly curse." “I hate this s**t, Mary.” I said grunting. “Don't we all do,” Mary chuckled lightly. Mary sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing my back gently. "Do you really have to go to school today? You can barely stand up straight. You're aren't exactly a model student so one day won't kill you know." I thought about it for a second. The idea of sitting through math class while my uterus was trying to murder me sounded like actual torture. Plus, I didn't want anyone…especially Liam, seeing me look less than perfect. They would think I looked like this because of Liam's rejection and that won't be lovely, I'm not about to let them think the rejection is taking a toll on me. "Fine," I sighed, leaning back against the pillows. "I'm staying home." "Good choice," Mary smiled, handing me the mug. "I prepared some herbal tea to help ease the cramps. Drink it while it's hot." I took a sip of the warm tea. It actually tasted decent, and the heat started to soothe my stomach almost instantly. "You're a lifesaver, Mary. Thank you. You can go now." Mary nodded and left the room, closing the door behind her. I lay there for about twenty minutes, just waiting for the pain to fade. Suddenly, the door clicked open again. I looked up, expecting Mary to be holding a hot water bottle, but instead, she was standing there smiling cheek to cheek. I frowned at her. "Why are you smiling like you just came across a huge sum of money? As far as I know it's not salary day yet." Mary’s grin got even wider. "Alpha…Alpha Hunter is waiting downstairs." She said, with her hands covering her mouth slightly. I practically jumped right out of my bed, completely forgetting about my cramps for a split second. "What?! What the hell is he doing here?" "I don't know, Miss Trixie." Mary squealed softly. “He probably missed you.” Oh my goodness. Does she find this funny? Miss me? Why would he miss me? "He just showed up. Should I ask him to come up to your room? Maybe he can help with the cramps." "Are you insane? What is he? A doctor?" I hissed, rushing over to the full-length mirror. I looked at my reflection and groaned. My hair was a messy nest, I had no makeup on, and my skin looked completely washed out and pale. "Look at me! I look horrible. I am not seeing anyone right now, especially not him. Tell him to get lost." "Oh, Miss Trixie, you look fine, as you always do." Mary insisted. "And I really don't think Alpha Hunter would mind how you look." "I said NO, Mary. Go tell him I'm sick or dead or whatever. Just make him leave." "Alright, alright. I doubt he'll listen though." Mary said, turning around and walking out. I let out a breath and walked back toward my bed, ready to crawl back under the covers. But before my feet could even touch the mattress, the door swung wide open. My jaw dropped. Mary walked in first, wearing a guilty but amused smile, and right behind her was Hunter. He was wearing a casual grey hoodie that made his chest look even bigger, and he completely dominated the space the second he stepped inside. I glared daggers at Mary, who just gave me a quick bow and practically sprinted out of the room, shutting us in. "Traitor," I muttered under my breath. Hunter didn't care about the maid. His dark eyes scanned me from head to toe, his eyebrows knitting together the moment he saw my face. “I came to pick you up for sch…” he said but paused when he saw me. Gosh… I told Mary I look horrible. "Why is my mate looking so pale?" Hunter asked, his deep voice instantly filling the bedroom. He took a slow step toward me, his eyes full of genuine concern. "Are you sick, Princess?" "It is none of your business," I snapped, crossing my arms and trying to look intimidating despite my oversized bear pajamas with a literal tail. God…can this get more embarrassing? "And I told you to stop calling me your mate. Get out of my room." Hunter didn't listen. He took another massive step forward, closing the distance between us. But the moment he got within three feet of me, he stopped dead in his tracks. His nostrils flared. He took a sudden, deep breath of the air around me. Before I could ask what his problem was, Hunter’s eyes completely lost their normal color. They flashed a violent, terrifying crimson red. His shoulders went rigid, and his chest began to heave as his breathing suddenly became ragged and heavy. He looked like a wild animal that had just caught a scent it couldn't control. My heart leaped into my throat. I stumbled back a step, my eyes wide with shock. "Hunter?" I stammered, my voice shaking as I stared at his dark, struggling face. "What...what is wrong with you?”
