HUNTER'S POV
The moment I stepped closer to Trixie, a heavy, warm wave of her scent hit my nose. But this time, it was different. It was her usual sweet scent, but it was mixed with something raw, warm, and metallic.
Blood.
Inside my head, my wolf instantly went completely feral. He slammed against my consciousness, roaring to take over.
MARK HER! MARK OUR MATE NOW! SHE’S BLEEDING, PROTECT HER, MARK HER!
My claws pricked at my palms as I clenched my fists, fighting my own beast with everything I had. The room tilted. My vision went blurry, and all I could see was the soft pulse of the vein in her neck.
"Hunter?"
Her voice sounded like it was coming from a mile away, underwater. "What...what is wrong with you?"
I couldn't even form words. I was locked in a brutal battle inside my own mind, trying to pull my wolf back into his cage before I did something that would terrify her forever.
But instead of staying back, Trixie took a step closer to me. God…she's going to be the end of me.
The scent exploded in the air, a thousand times stronger.
"Look," Trixie said, her voice trying to sound sharp, but I could hear the clear panic trembling under her words. "If you want to turn into a big-ass puppy, go do it out in the woods and not in my room. You're creeping me out."
I almost chuckled, almost.
I forced a massive breath into my lungs, my muscles shaking from the effort as I finally managed to push my wolf down.
The crimson red left my eyes, and my vision cleared, though my breathing was still ragged and heavy. I looked at her, my heart hammering against my ribs.
"Oh... the things you do to me, Princess," I breathed out, wiping a hand across my sweating forehead. "You have no idea how much power you have over me."
Trixie blinked, her panic quickly melting back into her usual arrogant look that I absolutely love. She scoffed and crossed her arms. "Well, obviously. It’s about time you acknowledged my charm and prettiness. Unlike that stupid, blind wolf, Liam."
The mention of his name hit me like a splash of battery acid. A dark, vicious growl ripped from my throat before I could stop it.
"Do not mention another man's name in my presence," I barked, my voice dropping into a dangerous Alpha tone.
Trixie’s eyes snapped with fire. She didn't shrink back at all. "Excuse me? You don't control me, leather jacket. Get the f**k out of my room right now before I have my guards shoot you in the damn tail, you puppy."
I closed my eyes for a second, a chuckle played at my throat, realizing I had pushed too hard. She was human, she didn't understand pack dynamics, and she definitely didn't take orders from anyone but that makes sense…she's my mate. She shouldn't take orders from anyone.
I didn't want to look like a controlling psycho to her.
I took a slow step forward, softening my posture completely. "Forgive me, princess. I got jealous. The thought of any other male touching you or talking about you makes my blood boil. It makes me want to tear them apart."
Trixie rolled her eyes, but the tips of her ears turned a light pink.
She walked past me, dragging her feet slightly, and crawled back into her massive bed, pulling the duvet over her legs. I just stood at the edge of the bed, watching her every move.
She looked up at me, frowning. "Why are you still standing there like a giant statue? I told you to get out."
"Can I stay?" I asked, my voice completely calm and gentle now. "Just let me stay in bed with you. Your scent is driving me crazy right now. I don't want to leave."
"Hell no!" Trixie snapped, grabbing the duvet tighter. Then she paused, looking at me like I was a weird science experiment.
"Wait. Why is my scent suddenly driving you crazy? It’s not like it’s the first time we've been close. We were literally squished into the same car seat yesterday and you..." She stopped and glared at me.
“You…you know kis…”, she exhaled deeply and I couldn't help but find it amusing. “You know what you did.”
Ohh…the kiss?
I leaned against her bedpost, looking down at her softly. "I am like this because of your cycle, Trixie. Your menstruation."
Trixie froze. "My... what?"
"The scent of your blood," I explained simply, my voice low and thick. "Mixed with your natural scent... it’s beautiful. It tells my wolf that you’re vulnerable, and it makes me want to wrap myself around you and protect you from everything."
"Ugh! You perverted wolf!" Trixie screamed, her face turning completely crimson.
She grabbed her fluffy silk pillow and hurled it straight at my face. I caught it effortlessly, letting out a low chuckle. I tossed the pillow onto the armchair, then knelt down and began unlacing my sneakers.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?!" she yelled, her voice squeaking.
"How can I be a p*****t if we're mates?" I smiled, kicking my shoes off. "It’s just biology, princess."
Before she could scream for her maids, I climbed onto the mattress. I didn't care about her protests.
I slipped under the heavy duvet, reached out, and pulled her petite body straight against my chest. Trixie gasped, flattening her hands against my t-shirt to push me away, but I just wrapped my arms tightly around her waist, trapping her against me.
I leaned down and buried my face deep into the crook of her warm neck, inhaling that intoxicating, metallic sweetness until my mind finally found peace.
My wolf pushed at my consciousness.
MORE! MORE!
I felt my teeth elongate into fangs as my wolf tried to take control. I took in a huge whiff of her scent but it just made my wolf more feral.
Oh f**k this!
