The car ride was completely silent. I kept my head turned toward the window, pretending to be deeply interested in the passing trees, but my lips were still tingling.
I cleared my throat, trying to regain my usual cool attitude. "Do you even know where my house is? Or are you just driving us into a ditch?"
Hunter didn't take his eyes off the road, but a lazy smirk appeared on his face. "I know exactly where you live, sweetheart. An Alpha always knows how to find his mate."
"Stop calling me that," I snapped, crossing my arms. "It’s weird."
"You'll get used to it," he murmured, his voice smooth and teasing.
Ten minutes later, the car pulled up to the massive iron gates of the Wells mansion.
The guards quickly opened them, and Hunter drove down the long driveway, stopping right in front of the front doors.
Before I could even reach for the handle, Hunter was already out of the car. He opened my door, offering me his hand. I ignored his hand and stepped out on my own, but he didn't seem bothered. He reached into the back seat and grabbed the luxury box containing the ridiculously expensive bag I had just bought.
"So," Hunter said, leaning against the car door, his dark eyes locking onto mine. "Are you going to invite your mate inside for a drink? Or maybe something more?"
"In your dreams, wolfboy," I said, popping my gum. "You're just my driver for the day. You don't get house privileges."
"Cruel," he chuckled, stepping closer until his shadow completely covered me. "Are you always this mean to the people who worship you?"
"Only the ones who think a cheap car kiss buys them a ticket into my house," I retorted, tilting my chin up.
Before he could respond, one of my family's maids, Mary, came rushing down the front steps. Her eyes went wide when she saw Hunter standing there in his tight black t-shirt.
"Oh! Miss Trixie, welcome back," Mary stammered, her face turning pink as she stared at Hunter. "We didn't know you were bringing... company."
"He's not company, he's leaving," I said flatly. I turned to Hunter and pointed at the luxury box. "Mary, collect the bag from him."
Mary nervously walked over, her hands shaking a little. "Excuse me, Alpha Hunter..."
Hunter didn't even look at Mary. His eyes remained fixed entirely on me, full of amusement. He handed the box over to the maid without breaking eye contact.
"See you around, dear mate."
“By the way, I might keep you around since you know how to be a good little puppy,” I said with a smile, I didn't wait for his reply. I didn't say goodbye.
I just turned on my heel and marched up the stairs, my heels clicking loudly.
Behind me, I could hear Mary whispering frantically to another maid who had just opened the door.
"Oh my god, did you hear that?" Mary whispered loudly. "Alpha Hunter called her his mate!"
"No way! Trixie? But she's human!" the other maid whispered back in shock. "And she's so... well, you know how she is."
I stopped dead in my tracks on the porch and glared at them. "What did you just say?"
The second maid turned pale. "Nothing, Miss Trixie! I was just—"
“You're working, eating and sleeping in my mansion and you have the audacity to comment on my attitude?”
“I…I'm… sorry.”
“Apology not accepted, you're fired," I said coldly, not letting her finish. "Pack your bags and get out of my house before I have the guards throw you out."
"Miss Trixie, please!" the girl begged, tears springing to her eyes.
"Mary, get her out of my sight," I commanded, walking past them into the grand foyer. "And bring my new bag upstairs."
I stormed up the stairs to my bedroom and slammed the door shut. I threw myself onto my king-sized bed, staring up at the ceiling. The room was perfectly quiet, but my mind was racing.
Slowly, without even realizing it, I lifted my fingers and touched my bottom lip lightly. It still felt warm.
"Arrogant, annoying, stupid wolf," I muttered out loud to the empty room, but a
tiny, involuntary smile crept onto my face.
I shook my head violently, trying to clear my thoughts. But I couldn't help comparing. Hunter was definitely better than Liam. Hunter was terrifying to everyone else, but he actually stood up for me and called me his woman.
Liam, on the other hand, was a complete coward.
The memory of earlier today flashed in my mind…how Liam had humiliated me in public, letting bitches who can't even wash my plates laugh at me.
My smile instantly vanished, replaced by pure, hot anger.
"You think you can just embarrass Trixie Wells and walk away?" I whispered, my eyes narrowing. "Not a chance."
I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and scrolled through my contacts until I found the name I wanted. I hit dial. It rang twice before a professional voice answered.
"Miss Wells? This is Mr. Harrison. Is everything alright with your father?"
"My father is fine, Mr. Harrison. I'm calling for myself," I said, sitting up straight on the bed, my voice dripping with venom. "I need you to prepare a massive lawsuit immediately."
The lawyer sounded confused. "A lawsuit? Against whom, Miss Wells?"
"Liam and his entire pack," I demanded, a wicked smirk forming on my lips. "They think they answer only to werewolf laws, but they live on human land. I want to sue Liam and his family for harassment and extreme emotional damage. I want to bleed their pack funds dry using human law. Can we do it?"
There was a long pause on the other end of the line. "Using human courts against a pack hierarchy is highly unusual and dangerous, Miss Trixie... but legally? Yes. We can absolutely ruin them."
"Perfect," I smirked, leaning back against my pillows. "Start drafting the paperwork today.”
“Just wait for me Liam…I am going to ruin you wearing my most gorgeous outfit.”
