Live my last years
It felt like any other day. Everyone woke up to get dressed for school. Mika was in Grade 11 — her second-to-last year. Mika was bright and intelligent, and she just wanted to belong everywhere because she fit in easily. Everyone loved Mika. She was brilliant and beautiful. Beauty with brains, you know what I mean. She had two sisters, Isabella and Gabby. Mika was the last child, and she was loved for it. Bailey was their stepmum, and she took care of them like they were her own children. Bailey met Mika’s father when she was pregnant with David. He still agreed to marry her, even though she was carrying another man’s child. And to be honest, Bailey is a good woman. She took Joseph’s children in and raised them like her own. Now, back to Mika’s life. It was Monday again. Mika was already dressed. She was waiting for David to finish getting ready so they could go to school together. Everything seemed fine. Isabella was in the kitchen making breakfast for both of them. Mika was on her phone and barely touched her food. Isabella was telling her to eat when Gabby walked in looking all shaggy. Isabella and Mika burst into laughter as they looked at each other. Gabby rolled her eyes. “You two are stupid. All the time.” Isabella was the older sister, but she was beautiful and calm, and all she wanted was peace. So whenever Gabby said awful things, it never really got to her. David ran down the stairs. “Sorry, I’m late.” Mika grinned. “You’re always late.” Mika kissed Isabella on the cheek, and both of them rushed out of the house. *_* ### *At St. Nova’s High School* Mika got to school and walked straight to her class without even saying goodbye to David. Not like he cared, but come on, she could have done better. She walked into class and met her friends chatting. Lucy stood up to make space for Mika, and Mika really loved her for that. Shayla: “Look who’s here.” Viva: “It’s Mika.” They all burst into laughter. Mika: “What have you all been discussing?” Lucy: “We’ve been discussing—” Viva quickly cut in. “You talk too much.” She held Mika’s hand and looked into her eyes. “Amika, whatever we’re discussing is no big deal. Trust me, if it was worth your time, I would have told you.” Mika tried to ask more, but the bell rang. Viva smiled. “Let’s get to work, sissy. I’ll see you in a bit.” She walked out with her bag and her Biology textbook. Mika looked confused, then followed her to class. *_* During break, Mika looked everywhere for Lucy. She checked all the dormitories and even went to the junior classes. She finally found her at the girls’ porch, making out with another girl. Mika felt disgusted and left immediately. They didn’t even see her. Mika didn’t know Lucy was into girls. All she knew was that Lucy had a grumpy boyfriend who was always talking about s*x in class. Mika never joined those conversations because they irritated her. That scene made her forget about being curious about what Viva and the girls were discussing. *** Later that day, during sports, Mika was trying to gather the female basketball team when she saw Viva talking to a guy. They didn’t look close, but they also didn’t look like strangers. Viva was paying close attention to what he was saying. Viva wasn’t the relationship type. Her main goal was to win the trophy. She was also brilliant, and she was good at gist about guys and matchmaking. Being curious, Mika called out to Viva. Paxton left in a rush. Viva just sneered at her and walked off. Mika wasn’t surprised. She’d known Viva all her life. She just wanted to know what they were hiding. At basketball practice, Mika played too well. She was that good. After practice, Paxton was waiting for her. He offered her water and she took it quickly. She drank the whole bottle. “I needed this.” Paxton: “I’m glad I could help.” He turned to leave, but Mika stopped him. “You’re the guy I saw with Viva earlier.” Paxton: “Yeah, I’m Paxton.” He offered her a handshake. Mika shook her head. “I don’t shake guys.” He dropped his hand and tried to leave. Mika: “So what were you discussing with Viva?” Paxton smiled and walked around her. “Mika, you don’t have the right to boss me just because I gave you water. I could have given anyone. And by the way, I heard you and Viva are close friends.” That was the last thing he said before walking out. Mika stood there watching his back, feeling confused. Lucy waved at her, and they both left the field. Paxton kept running through Mika’s mind. She found him so daring. He acted mean to her, and somehow that made it interesting. Because everyone loved Mika. So what was with him?
