DARK RAVEN

As I enjoy a walk in the forest, at night , I am trapped by a thick, grey fog... A Baobab tree looms over the fog , trapping me even further ! Confusion swirls my mind, making it impossible for rational thinking to occur. The fog continues to get stronger, once I realize that there is no sign of escaping ! My breath hastens, while I try to run... None of my efforts seem to work and I dejectedly give up! Nothing could have prepared me for this! The ferocity of thunder in the forest, frightens me! A large branch from the tree falls and lands on my head, knocking me to the ground, as everything fades to black... I awaken , feeling the pain in my head, touching the wound on my head , I see my thick , red blood running down my fingers ! I wince in pain, trying to think of a way to heal my wound, but I am stopped dead in my train of thought!!! The howl of a wolf is heard and I freeze in terror!!! I feel a huge shadow coming nearer and nearer, as it pants and sniffs heavily, trying to find me!!! I crawl on the ground, as quietly as I can. I hear something running towards me and I crawl as far as I can. As I turn around, I scream in horror... A huge, black wolf with bloodshot eyes glares at me ... Showing off its sharp, white teeth, as it looks at me hungrily! I quickly scan the forest for any weapons and people nearby, but I realize that there is nothing to help me!!! I crawl further and further away from the horrifying wolf, until the wolf disappears into the fog.... I sigh with relief, knowing that I am alive and well... I try to stand and manage to walk, as I try to navigate my way home. I manage to escape the strong grasp of the fog and see familiar trees in the forest. Suddenly, the same horrifying wolf pounces on me!!! Sinking its teeth into my neck, as my screams continue to echo in the forest... "Kate!!! Kate!!!" my mum shouts. As I wake up, sweaty, I jump out of bed and look in the mirror. There is no head or neck wound on my body!!! I run to my mum and cry in her arms... "What... what happened to me?" I ask still in shock. "I found you screaming in your sleep! You must have had a nightmare!" Mum responds. "It ...it felt so real and it was a nightmare. This was the worst nightmare that I ever had!!! ", I say." What happened in the nightmare? ", Mum enquires. I slowly respond, "I was bitten by a big, black wolf! This wolf was different from all the other wolves, I knew about... Its bloodshot eyes and sharp white teeth will always remain in my mind ... Haunting me wherever I go, until I am left as its prey! "Mum's eyes widen in shock and horror, as she runs out of the room .... "JOHN!!! JOHN!!! WAKE UP!!!" Mum shouts in an urgent and fearful manner , as she enters her bedroom. Dad quickly wakes up and asks Mum, " Wendy, what is going on?!" "Kate had a nightmare about being bitten by a WEREWOLF!!! " Mum tells Dad, as I press my ear to their closed bedroom door. "WHAT?! Are you sure? How do you know that it was a WEREWOLF?! ", Dad asks in shock. " Kate said that the wolf was bigger than a normal wolf and it had red eyes !!! No wolf has red eyes John!! We both know that!! We got to do something about this now!!! ", Mum responds. Dad says in desperation, " Until she is 18, she will not know about this world that we live in!!! She can't know , Wendy!!! She will not understand !!! " " Yes, I agree Kate is too young to know about this world." Mum agrees. " KATE!!! " Dad shouts . I open the door and look at my parent's concerned faces. There is an awkward silence in the room and I decide to break the ice... " What is going on? I heard everything ! What do you need to tell me? ", I ask. "Mum remains silent, as I witness her questionably frantic behavior. " Have you been watching any horror movies about werewolves? ", Dad asks." No , but what does this have to do with the discussion that you and Mum had ? ", I respond. " There are things in this family that have to remain secret. If I tell you the truth now , your life and your loved ones will be in danger. There are dangerous people everywhere and your mother and I have to protect you. " , Dad explains. "It's clear that both of you will not spill the beans now... But, can you at least tell me what that nightmare meant ? ", I ask." To be honest Kate we think that you are in danger ... from what I know about the werewolf you mentioned. It is possibly a metaphor , for a person in your life that wants to hurt you. Do you know who this person is ? ", Mum asks. My breath quickens after hearing that question and my mind is stormed with fear and chaos . My hands tremble, as my palms begin to sweat profusely. My parents slowly walk towards me clearly concerned, as I run to my room slamming the door behind me. An unfriendly familiar face of a girl enters my thoughts taunting me. I jump on my bed, as tears start staining my pillows... Hoping that tomorrow will be less of a nightmare...
