After the woman, who I know now is called Miss Dursilla, let me stay in the orphanage, we made a deal that I would clean the house , wash the dishes, and help the maids with anything and, in exchange, she would let me sleep on the bed with a blanket so I wouldn't get cold and give me food and drink so I wouldn't starve. It was like working but with no money given.
The next morning, when I woke up, Miss Dursilla told us to gather down in the living room, because she had an announcement to make. I quickly went and took a shower, got dressed, and went downstairs. I heard some voices coming from the living room, so I went there.
"We just have a new girl who came to us yesterday. We don't know anything about her or her family history or anything. She was limping though, so you can check her out and treat her if there is anything wrong with her. "
I heard from Miss Dursilla as I was walking inside. My head is kept down since I don't know who was there. It was something Miss Dursilla told me yesterday.
" Ah, new girl, I'm sorry I didn't catch your name. What's your name, sweetie? "
"My name is Eva Brown, Miss," I say, "Can I raise my head?"
"You may"
I lifted my head from the ground and saw two male doctors with a stethoscope around their neck. One looked familiar, but the other didn't.
"Um... Miss? Is that you? "
The familiar one said. I looked at him and realised that he was the young doctor I met yesterday. He seemed to know the answer when he looked at my surprised face.
"Miss Dursilla, what is going on? Why are there doctors here? "
"Well, today is check-up day. Doctors come from the hospital to check up on you. If there is anything wrong, they take you to the hospital and treat you there. Then, you come back here again. "
sh*t! sh*t! sh*t! The young doctor knows I'm not alright. He'll take me to the hospital, and I don't want hospitals. They are going to find out. They will find out everything.
" Eva, I need you to sit down, put your head between your legs and breathe with me."
I must be hyperventilating and having a panic attack. I did as he told me and put my head inside my bent legs. He crouched down beside me and said,
"Breath in"
5 seconds have passed.
"Breath out"
5 seconds have passed.
"Breath in"
And we kept doing that till I calmed down. He checked my pulse to make sure I was calm.
"She's OK. Don't worry."
He told Miss Dursilla, the other doctor, and the rest of the orphanage, who I didn't realise were watching. Then he turned to me and said,
"May I ask what caused you to have a panic attack?"
I shook my head and started crying. I hate to cry in front of him, but I can't hold it anymore. He was so close to me, like the other guys who r***d me. I felt him pick me up from the position I was in and then sit me on the couch.
"Everyone, please go to the kitchen and don't talk about anything you just saw, or there will be consequences. Stay silent and in a line. A doctor will come and check on you soon."
I heard Miss Dursilla say to the kids in the orphanage, and a door was shut. I raised my head from my knees and looked around to see the young doctor, the other doctor, and Dursilla.
" If you excuse me, miss, I would like to have a moment with her alone."
I looked at Miss Dursilla, frightened, and she smiled sympathetically and left with the other doctor to treat the kids.
